Why the desperation for the upgrade?

I still have the original 2012 retina macbook pro.. it's still as fast as the day i got it.. I'm here because i've decided to upgrade, mainly because 8GB ram is no longer suitable for MY needs (large files in photoshop, etc..) apart from that I can't think of a single reason I would need this latest model, never mind the unannounced 2016 model. I know we all like to have the latest and greatest but realistically it's going to be a processor speed bump that won't even be noticeable in real world situations..

Or am i missing the point?

Who needs a new design? the rMBP is a beauty.

I'll be upgrading next week whether the new model is here or not.

Not everyone is in the same situation as you - which is why people are exhibiting varying degrees of desperation :)

There is no way the update will be out by next week, so you might as well treat yourself to a new lappy now!

Yeah, i'm sure stock levels would be starting to drop now if we were to see it in March.

I don't think 30% increase in autonomy, 50% in both graphic power and TB transfer speed are comparable to a mere « speed bump ». This will always depend on your usage, but even in every day scenario you should notice a significant difference.

Uh it wold be really hard to see difference in every day scenario http://pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/radek/2015/skylake/charts/def/internet.png
i know its not mobile version but it shows the difference between skylake and haswell architecture gain

You got an already quite new machine, some others are still with 2009-2010 laptops with old HDD, and some others don't even have a Mac but want to buy one as soon as they release the new one. Your desperation question is like asking why are you going to upgrade if you got an already good machine: it's personal and situational.
And please don't use the pun "buy now if you need one now": some people here still have a 5years old laptop, having waited so long means they can wait a bit more for a new machine, instead of buying a 3 years old machine at full price (actual 15" MBP). It's not a matter of having the lastest stuff, or now waiting for Cannonlake, but a matter of: it's almost here, and it will change many things not just a 10% CPU bump, so let's wait a bit more (despite wanting it right now).

Waited so long, might as-well wait for kaby lake at end of this year. Full hardware accelerated 10bit H.265 / VP9.

It's silly paying the same price for a year old (13") or two year old (15") tech. Macs do last a long time indeed. I'm still running great on my early 2011 MBP 15" (fingers crossed). Seeing how long Macs last, many folks are in the market for a new Mac now and want updated tech such as USB-C so they don't have to upgrade again in a couple years once USB-C is standard.

I actually won't be able to afford a new rMBP right out of the gate if it comes out in March (or probably even June).

I greatly look forward to reading and watching reviews, meticulously poring over the new pages of the Apple website, researching which version is best for my needs, and then seeing what the new version of OS X will bring. My 2009 Dell XPS has some life left in her yet.

On the topic of finances, has anyone used Barclays to finance an Apple product before? Any issues or problems? Maybe Apple will adopt a MacBook Upgrade Program akin to iPhone :)

I would go ahead and apply now but ask to see if you can reapply for the interest free promo at a later date. The interest rates are nuts even for good credit. If they won't give me interest free I'll just pay cash.

For all you financial neckbeards relax, I can pay cash but rather take a free gift card from Barclays.

The most thing that make me really angry is that Apple skipped Broadwell.
First of all, it made me think "oh well, if they skipped it, maybe it's because Skylake will come quite soon."
NOPE.
Second, why in hell they didn't upgrade?! Actually, I know why. Money. Squeezing more money from the iSheeps that buy everything coming from Apple.
The CPUs for the 15" were announced the 2 of June, for god's sake. Almost nine months ago.
Nine months.
Screw you, Apple.
Really, screw you.
'iSheep' Funny! Love that! But then again, I'm new and hadn't heard that.
All is care about right now is, why can't I talk on my apple watch. Heading over to the thread now to see, 'what's up!?'

The latest El Capitan beta adds a features where the Notes app can hide notes with a secure password or TouchID. While ambiguous, this suggests the next MBPs may have TouchID. There appears no reference to any MacOS touchscreen functionality.

Interesting. Where do you see this?
This has huge implication. We could finally see TPM or Secure Elements in our Macs.

You have to use a password to lock a note with TouchID, even on the iPhone. So you would just type it in on the Mac.

Outside of redesigns, do we usually get leaks about mbp's refresh's / spec bumps ? I feel like last year we got leaks about force touch.

I'm so pumped lol, it's almost unhealthy. This is going to be my first Mac, but i really want one quickly, so I hope for a March launch. Would be interesting if nothing leaked for once, I'd love to be surprised.

We had an idea of the Retina Macbook Pro before it came out because of HiDPI assets being found in OS X and some general rumors. We didn't get a substantial idea of what it would like or what new features it would have until very close to release.

Retina Macbook had some part leaks leading up to its reveal. This is not really normal though. Normally Macbooks, while we may generally know they're going to be updated, we don't have all the information about them before release.

How's your battery? My 2012 doesn't even get 3 hours. While the current rMBP would suffice, I'm holding out purely for USBC/TB3.

I know when there's been a refresh, we usually see pictures of boxes with the new specs on them. 2010 Macbook box was leaked a week or two before release.
