Yeah. And the delay for proper MBP Kaby Lake chips will be so severe so they might aswell wait for Cannonlake. See where I'm going with this?
I fully agree. Played with a Spectre x360 and XPS 13 today and almost got weak. If Apple fails to deliver and presents just some rip off offerings, I'll switch to another option instead. Since W10 seems pretty nice, I don't care too much about OSX anymore. It is still good, but improvements have been underwhelming the last few years and that probably won't change with the next updates. Siri on the Mac? Copy/paste of Cortana? Apple just lost the lead while concentrating on watches and cars....MS has the Surface Pro, Apple the iPad Pro (which is rather a Surface RT)....and so on and on.....Apple is just reacting these days....no innovation at all......sad...this is the same Apple that has been rehashing the 2012 retina a few times over and is still charging top dollar for the latest one. The same Apple that had the balls to release 2014 and 2015 retina base with worse graphics than the base model 2012 with dGPU. Nothing Apple does makes any damn sense anymore. At this point the 2016 retina will be released in June. It'll feature 2014 specs in gold and space Grey for twice the price. (Rocking in corner).

The delay is so long now that Apple might as well wait. No point in releasing a rushed/half-baked product that Dell had a year ago.

I think this MBP will be the last one. In 4 years' time (2020), they won't bother with a form factor update. You'll just buy an iPad Pro and connect a keyboard/mouse.
That's why Apple should release it now, it's been so long and they had many time to plan a redesign. I don't think they have just started working on it last month. That, plus the gap constantly increasing from their competitors and Apple (which is 1-2 years behind in laptops). Some people think that Apple no longer focusses on Macs redesigns/innovations just because the main income comes from iPhones, but the Mac Pro (which is one of the less sold Macs) and iMac 5K are just there to prove it.
Just no. Apple won't let you use an iPad as a real computer (neither will they put it OSX) since all the Macbooks would be wiped out, and Macbooks are still giving a lot of income to Apple, not to say Apple realised how people are losing interest in iPads. Can you imagine Apple erasing all Macbooks to go "all in" with iPads, and then people not corresponding them with sales? That would be hilarious.
About your "They get a hold over Dell by gobbling up all the Kaby Lake chip supply and Apple aren't releasing a SkyLake "me too" product like the ones Dell already have on the market.", you don't seem to know how Intel releases work. In 2015 there was only core-M and 15W Skylake CPU releases, only now in January the CPUs that fit 15" MBP have been released. So Apple isn't competing with Dell on that sense. The same goes for Kaby Lake, Intel will release first the processors that won't go to 15" MBPs but to tablets, and low-mid end laptops.

I agree, even though Apple makes most money from iphones and what not, they just surpassed the point where they have 10% of the pc market. It may not be their main form of growth, but it's still growth to them.
I believe those higher end chips Apple tends to use have been released as of late January and they are just starting to roll out.
One way or another, there will be new MacBooks announced within a month.
UNLESS... they need time to finish a redesign. But even in that case, I still think they would update the line with Skylake now, before doing a redesign later in the year.

If there is a redesign, it's not like they had no time for it ...
Here is sounds like they would be in a rush since skylake is out or something ..
Ok no rumors, that is a bit worrying
Bingo. I did not realize that until I read this thread.People don't understand that "skylake" is not one set of processors, but a micro architecture that comprises many chips and families of products.
Pretty sure the most recent XPS models were released in late 2015 with Skylake.
Kaby Lake GT4e should not appear until mid 2017 though. Skipping Broadwell and Skylake is suicide.
The only thing that's debatable is when the redesign is coming. Skylake or Kaby Lake...
Apple needs to lead. Releasing a Skylake machine that Dell have had on the market since 2015 is not leading.
So, Apple will delay until Kabylake later this year (July/August) and have the global chip supply completely stitched up. That means a WWDC announcement in June. 16" available in Jan 2017. The demand for this machine will be huge. Chips aren't coming off the production line fast enough.

Apple are forced into delaying. They can't release a Skylake machine like a Dell. They can't access the number of chips that they want. They have to worry about all their other products and they have to keep their developers happy. If Kabylake was available now, the machine would be announced ahead of WWDC and available for WWDC.
But it's not. Apple have to delay. It'll be announced at WWDC and the MBP will be the first machine with Kabylake in July/August.
Don't forget we did have a rumor in late November about redesigned MBAs at WWDC: https://www.macrumors.com/2015/11/30/thinner-macbook-air-13-15-wwdc-2016/
Since the models they talk about are 13" and 15" they could be talking about MBP, or even if they are Airs, we'll get pros at the same time or sooner. The Air chips have been available for a long time, so it'd be weird to get pros first in March and airs second in June.
I also totally understand the possibility of no new MBA in 2016 with rMB taking its place, but I do not believe that will happen this year.
People ask how is it possible that Apple would update MBPs now and on WWDC again.
Update without redesign now - Skylake chips, integrated GPUs only, lower price points.
On WWDC completely new Macbook Pros with Skylake chips and Polaris GPUs.
A bit of play with customers, and milking them to death, I would say. But thats how they can get traction on old and new design of MBP's.
