I know that updating the MBP now and then having a new one three months later is stupid, but I see it by the point of view of adding another laptop line.
As I already said, maybe Apple will silent update the Pro now, then at WWDC introduce a completely new Air, with new moniker too.

The new Air is actually the new Macbook. Just that they refreshed Air once more, but if they add some more ports to nMB as they did with the first Air, the actual Air won't have any more reasons to exist. I mean, why making a new Mac line (that was ditched 8 years ago because of Air) if it isn't to replace the Air role?

That said, a complete redesign of MBP has much more sense. A redesign now in March or in the fall? I don't know, but definitely they won't prior Air over MBP.

Difference is the original Air supplanted the Macbook at a pretty slow rate—it had three revisions to the original spec over the course of 3 years before they discontinued the Macbook. On the other hand, the retina models have supplanted their low-DPI predecessors much faster. So the question is to what trend does the Retina Macbook hew closer to? My guess is the 11 inch Macbook Air might hang on as an entry legacy model while the rMB gets cheap enough to replace it, and so it'll be another year at least before the old line is phased out. But who knows—Apple moves remarkably fast sometimes, glacial others.

As for redesigns, I dunno why everyone is clamoring for one for the rMBP. I'd rather have larger batteries inside a component-shrunk case or more room for venting the heat. If you want something super-thin and light, there's the rMB.

maybe rMBP updated in March, MacBook 12 stays the same, and Macbook Air got a new design

Yes, I'd rather have a bit thicker machine with fair battery life and NOT THROTTLING while I'm using than having a "slim" and "inferior" device.

I think we can safely say that June is the end of the line for some type of action.

There still is a possibility that we don't get a redesign in the first half of this year. They might want the sexiness of the rMB to have a little more life. Granted, it'll be a huge disappointment, but I've grown to expect delays and wait periods. If that is the case, I still think the redesign is coming soon. I hope I'm dead wrong.

What I am super excited for is the reveal and design video. The best way to get hyped about the new rMBP is to watch those videos. There's definitely more room (literally) to work with with the pro. Since the logic board was shrunk so much for the rMB, I'd expect similar innovation in the rMBP (understanding there's a huge difference between those two machines). I'm not a computer engineer, but they should be able to condense this beast down and make more room for battery.

For the record I could care less about a dGPU. I put that in there for others.

Or we skip all this dGPU bidness and go all in on Iris™ Pro . Relax everyone, I don't want the beloved dGPU to go either. I've got skin in the game, being the victim of both 8600m AND sporadic 330m failures, but if IP580 is good enough for the high end model then Ives and Co. will take the savings and run, rip the bandaid off once and for all.

We have all heard Apple is exploring ARM based Macs. Why can Apple not add an ARM based GPU on a Mac like a souped up A9x to help rendering the metal based libraries in the OS and free up the Intel iGPU giving it an extra 15-20% performance boost?

Also, speaking of strange marketing strategies, don't forget that Apple, back in 2008/2009, promote the MacBook 13" to MacBook Pro 13" just adding the Pro moniker. ;) (that's my current MBP by the way)

I'll never forgot that, because my current Macbook is the late 2008 Macbook 13" aluminum (technically oldest supported MBP 13") and I was shocked when they made that update. They did more than just change the name; they added a couple ports and a new version of mini-display port.

Now that I have been waiting a year for Skylake, nothing would infuriate me more than quiet update followed shortly by a re-design.

I think Apple should at least announce the new MacBooks w/o dGPU (the newer ones with AMD Polaris could not arrive until Q3 due Polaris HBM Delays), but certainly Skylake/tb3 is here there are Lots of new notebook being dispatched with Skylake (Skylake Xeon too) so an delay from Apple should expose they have issues in R&D and they are not capable to deliver as smaller rivals IMHO.

How close to WWDC do you usually start getting good leaks?

Nothing released at WWDC 2015 or 2014, at 2013 you had Mac Pro but that shipped months later.
2012 - 9to5mac had a rumours a month beforehand, with a more solid rumour for the double update the week beforehand
http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/04/apple...-mac-lineup-and-multiple-accessories-at-wwdc/

2012 had refreshed MBA with Ivy Bridge, refreshed MBP with Ivy Bridge, the launch of the retina MBP. And new AirPort Expresses with simultaneous dual band Wifi.

All change please:

I agree 100%. Thinness and lightness should not be the most important design factor for a "Pro" device. Performance, battery life and utility through I/O should be prioritised.

Barclay's just sent out an email for Interest Free promo on Apple stuff, period between 3/1/16 and 4/30/16. They must know something. This is 4x as long as the typical interest free promo for new signups.

Redesign for MBP means to me thinner screen bezel (making 14" screen in a 13" for example), Thunderbolt 3/USB C ports, and maybe bigger trackpad? If space gray comes out as a color option, the better. I don't know why people associate redesign with thinner laptop... Oh wait, maybe because Apple's (Ive) obsession with thinness :D

Since the rumour mill hasn't been popping out anything, I wanna ask you guys a question.
What colour rMBP would you like to have?

Space Grey, Silver or Gold?

I personally would love the classic Silver :)

I think I'd like to have the space grey one. Would have to check at the Apple store though...

I think I will go with Space Grey.

Then, I was thinking that I start considering buy a new MBP...
...back in october 2014.
But then I said myself "I have to do my thesis project, let's see if this old 2009 MBP can handle this project" and then it handled it, and it was March 2015. So one year ago.
But then one year ago I didn't have money, and after short time I was teased with Skylake, so I thought "Well maybe Apple will update the MBP after the Intel Con in August, let's wait for it" but it didn't happen, and then I thought "...Well maybe they're gonna silent upgrade it sometime between october and december" ...but it didn't happen, and then again I thought ".........Well maaaaaybe there is this rumored March Event, that's finally the time Apple will upgrade the new MBP" and we all know what's going to happen.
How times flies...

Well, f*ck me I could have bought my MBP one years ago at least.
And f*ck you too Apple, seriously.
