Smart question.
According to Wikipedia,

MBP 13"
"On March 9, 2015, with Intel Broadwell processors, Iris 6100 graphics, 100 percent faster flash storage, increased battery life, and the Force Touch trackpad."
MBP 15"
"On May 19, 2015, with similarly fast flash storage, increased battery life, the Force Touch trackpad, and an AMD Radeon R9 discrete (crappy) graphics card on the higher-end model."

But, if we consider the 15" by the CPU side:

"On October 22, 2013, Apple updated the line with Intel's Haswell processors and Iris Graphics, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt 2, and PCIe-based flash storage."

So 17 months ago.
Wow, I just noticed that this thread came to life just 4 days after that. How optimist was the thread starter...

If you consider a CPU refresh and the addition of a force touch of significance.

The design is 4 years old now.

The last two major revisions (2008 and 2012/models) set the bar so high, it took competitors about 2 to 3 years to catch up!

I will be disappointed if the 2016 MBP doesn't achieve similar. But I'll buy one anyway... Mac is my preferred dev environment and I need a high performance portable computer.

Yeah, tomorrow is going to be crazy. With a refresh or not. I guess we will have a couple of days to slack off after the big disappointment of not getting any refresh. I'm already pretending we won't get any refresh so I can be all happy tomorrow if there is one ^_^

@Oppenheim I really like the perspective you are looking the design point of view.
Also, as I'm a fresh graduated product designer, it's really an interesting topic for me.

I'll try to be quick and clear as I can.
The fact that both the MBP revisions happened every 4 years made us all believe that there's going to be a redesign.
And at this point Apple, as always does, has learned enough from its other products (i.e the MacBook, and its damn keyboard), to make a redesign. And that's why I see it short coming but not so short, in fact I believe we won't see the new MBP tomorrow but let's assume I didn't wrote this...
Even the competition, as you say, as reached Apple style. Just take a look at the Surface Book.
So yes, it's time for Apple to surprise us again with another beautiful design.
But I really don't need it.
I believe that Apple computers at this moment, just from aesthetical point of view, are perfect.
I mean, competitors are making now products similar to a design that is 4 years old!
I can't see how Apple could make them better.
They really look ageless.

But yeah, maybe Jony Ive and Mark Newson will surprise me one more time.

Page 300 is so close within our grasps. I started reading this thread since page 30. Nice to see the page count in tenfold

Sad and impressive at the same time.
Not you reading from p30, just the fact it's taken this long AND it's about to hit 300!

Works just fine for macrumors forum and facebook. Can even run games, can you imagine that?
Yeah. And also, rmbps are still the best laptop in my opinion (in terms of build quality and design) even if they were released 4 years ago

Apologies for the glass-half-empty pessimism folks, but the stage is set...for massive disappointment on many levels tomorrow.

I hope I'm wrong and someone can quote this post after the event saying "you fool! Idiot! Etc" but I have a feeling we won't be blown away tomorrow.

Denial of Reality;. I know... it is likely that its not gonna happen.

Yep. Im already hearing "I can't believe they updated the Macbook and didn't mention the Pro!"

Can someone give me a simple synopsis? I know that Skylake MacBook Pro's are coming but will they be a massive upgrade over the current (2015) models? I don't know much about this, sorry. I plan on getting a MacBook Pro soon, and I'll be watching the Keynote closely tomorrow, although I've read that MacBooks aren't expected until June. Should I just wait until June (or whenever the new MBP is announced) to make a decision? I feel like the 2015 MBP that is out now would easily suffice for the work I'll be doing, but I don't want to be in a situation of buyers remorse when the new models come out.

13 (2015) to 13(2016) ? Not so much. for 15 inch, yes. the 15inch variant uses a cpu that came out like 2 years ago ( or 2 generations ago). Usually, the performance gap between each cpu generation (intel core) is about 5 to 10%. so, yeah there will be a some noticeable upgrade for the 15 inch in terms of performance (also iGPU performance). but i don't expect that much improvement on the 13 inch

If Apple do not announce Macbook line-up tomorrow... I'm personally sending timcook an email about my concerns and give him link to this thread. HahA yes i'm that crazy

Oh sorry, I should've specified. Yes, I'll be looking at getting a 13." I recently went and used one at an Apple store for the first time and I really liked it a lot. I was just hesitant to get it with new models on the way. But I figure, if the performance difference between 2015 and 2016 13" isn't huge, I may end up getting the 2015. It seems like a solid laptop with a good mix of portability and power, and the screen is just spectacular.

A lot of people are expecting (hoping?) for a redesign, perhaps taking cues from the retina MacBook - butterfly keyboard, thinner design, USB-C/TB3, colours, better backlighting for keyboard, etc.

Although it's roughly about time for a redesign - recently, they've been redesigned in 2003 (then as the PowerBook) using an aluminium enclosure, in 2008 using the unibody design, and in 2012 with a thinner chassis - there isn't any concrete evidence to say we're definitely getting a redesign in 2016.

With Siri rumoured for OS X in the Summer, we may see things like improved microphones and perhaps even a home button-esque Touch ID area somewhere on the laptop. This is just speculation at this point though.
