If you can manage to sell a used Macbook Pro for more that 80% of list price you will be doing extremely well and should perhaps consider a career as a trader.

I just think it is too close together. U got iphone in sept which is fine. Then u have 2 flagships in oct? Is there events held in nov or dec? Keep in mind i am not disagreeing with you at all. It is just my thinking and i know i could be wrong.

I think you have the wrong perspective on this.

Here's mine:

iPad sales are slowing down each quarter (year over year numbers being in the negative now) and Wall Street is eyeing Tim's next move who has explicitly said he's doing something about it.

Then you have Intel saying Skylake is a game changer. Then you have Apple releasing a lack luster 15" rMBP with last year's processor (most expensive MacBook but this update is not driving any sales) while they released the 13" rMBP 3 months before with an up to date processor. Makes no sense (especially since Broadwell was available for the 15").

Then you have to read between the lines:

When Apple updated the 13" & 15" models they adjusted the design language to the MacBook's. They added Force touch.

Skylake chips for the 13" are not coming this year. Hence why it received a Broadwell update. The 15" didn't because those costumers are hardcore and they will wait out. AND there will be Skylake chips available this year for the 15". (No need to be paying Intel for more expensive chips just for a few months. It would drive up costs and the 15" in it's current state isn't breaking any sales records).

Also. The 15" being the most expensive and a niche product they do not need a lot of production ramp up or stock when they head into sales. Not a lot of people have that kind of cash sitting around to spend on a laptop. (Think iMac 5K sales or Mac Pro sales).

The 13" however is -especially since the unofficial discontinuation of the MBA- everyman's MacBook.
the 12" MB being generally too expensive (bang for buck wise) and the MBA's being lackluster and old.

So for that upgrade they would need large volume production.

On top of that there's the fact that the 15" rMBP was announced first and the 13" followed shortly thereafter.

So:
- They HAVE to do something in the iPad department (and iPad Air 3 would not cut it and has been rebutted by analysts saying it won't come because of the iPad Pro).

- If they can update, they update; case in point being the 13" rMBP upgrade to broadwell and the addition of force touch to the 15". (There is a lot more historical data to back this up but seeing as this is the most reason I'll use it).

There's no reason to assume Apple would have a problem announcing two flagships in the fall especially since Apple loves making money and the fall is their money making season.

That is why I completely do not understand your fear that iPad pro plus new 15" would be too much.

Edit: I added some points to strengthen my stance

Added to the above, tablet sales in general have stagnated. This is possibly because they last a long time, I have a perfectly serviceable iPad2, which is over 4 years old and still going strong.

If Apple do launch an iPad Pro it will not impact the 15" Macbook Pro market one tiny little jot. It is also unlikely to make much impact on the 13" Macbook Pro market either.

Also to answer your question.

Yes there should be an event in October/November.

I know but i would not make myself a favour when i will try to sell mine second hand :)

If there is an update which entails a redesign of the current MBP you can expect the value of yours to plummet. You're better of selling it now if you don't really need it for work or school.

Or people have just realized that tablets are pretty useless if you don't have kids and already own a laptop.

I've been wondering/speculating why aren't there any HQ coupled with a powerful GT3e/GT4e, and a crazy but plausible idea crossed my mind. It could be that Intel isn't ready to release them or maybe because of something else entirely. I read somewhere a long time ago that Apple was pushing Intel to lower the power consumption of their chips and to develop powerful IGPUs, and it happened as we all saw. Then I saw this newly launched TRULY mobile Xeon, it was strange to me at first as to why release something that has always been reserved for the workstation market. There had been laptops with Xeons but these CPUs where socketable and consumed a TON of power (basically they were desktop processors fitted into a laptop). Then I thought, what if this mobile Xeon is the product of Apple pushing Intel once again?. I mean just look at the slides a few pages ago, it has everything Apple wants. I've to admit that I'm still a little skeptical of the Xeon making its debut on a new rMBP but it goes without saying that it could definitely happen. And if these Xeons were really the product of Apple's insistence then we could very well see an Fall 2015 release. This could turn the 15" rMBP into a real workstation.

Also, when the MacBook Air was released in January 2008....it set a whole new design philosophy for Apple notebooks....similar to what the MacBook has done this year. And in that same year...the MacBook and MacBook Pro were updated to a similar design (in late 2008). So there is very much a huge possibility of the MacBook Pro getting updated to the 2015 MacBook's design philosophy...sometime in October.
Thanks! I hope they come out in october then

Gildarts i like your take on this and think this is exactly what will happen. And sorry, i didn't mention this but i was referring only to the 13inch macbook pros, not the 15inch. That was my fault.

we will se for sure imac/macbook pro 15" updates in Oct

This is an unfounded assertion. I even broke down the release dates for the 15" from the past 4 years, a handful of pages back, that historically suggests otherwise, given the release dates of the appropriate processors.

How do you conclude it is Apple's fault that Intel CPU's are not available yet?

They haven't even put Broadwell in the 15 inch and it's likely many windows laptops will be adopting skylake before apple do. We'll probably be waiting 6 months until march for USB C and skylake. Slow.

Rumours that they have hired a much bigger venue for the September event.

Could that be because they need to invite a much wider audience to cover all the products they intend to launch?

You don't actually believe for one second that Apple is going to release skylake MacBook Pros do you?

That's what I posted a week ago here. We all can be damn sure that Intel doesn't surprise their PC partners with their chip releases. Apple is a partner...and perhaps the one most catered to.

Lenova and Apple, HP, Dell are in-the-know years in advance of we consumers about Intel chips and most certainly have great influence on Intel's releases.

I owned a rMB for two weeks and returned it because I hated, and I really mean hated, the keyboard. If that's what Apple's bringing to the rMBP, my current rMBP will be my last.

So skylake doesn't seem like a major bump, not even a moderate bump

Why is everyone still waiting?

Answered many times here. Skylake brings a lot of new technologies to the table; in an era of modest performance gains, it brings decent graphics and battery life improvements, and a lot of new connectivity options. If Apple were planning on updating the design language of the Pro series, now would be a good time. That's why I'm a little skeptical we will see any new Pro laptops this year.

Battery gains seem to be in the 1.5hr range, not exactly a big jump but a jump nonetheless, the graphics jump is there but in everyday use who will tell a difference?

Up to 1.5 hours from the efficiency improvements of the processor alone is huge, considering it is generally the display, not the processor that is the biggest draw of energy. The graphics improvements are not just in performance; the will bring much improved 4k support meaning that the Skylake generation of computers will have far fewer of the issues with 4k that we have been saddled with to this point.

Fair points, but skylake has been really overhyped for what the improvements actually are, it definitely has fallen in the usual "You should wait for Skylake. Better yet, wait for what comes after that. Then you’ll really have a good machine. Actually, wait for what comes after THAT one. That will be the good one. Actually…" category, as it's just your usual minor year over year update

Compared to what we have seen in the last several revisions though, Skylake provides a lot of new possibilities. That's why right now, just as it's being released, it's a good time to wait.

TB3 with possibility of official eGPU support.
