Think about this, and ive learn how hard core Apple is working on ALL of its devices. Apple when are making the device, ANY device think about :
1)Laptops(environment,battery,heat, noise, ports placement on the chassis, screen, hinge, weight of the screen based on the hinge to be perfectly balanced and with less wobble, keyboard space, thin, light, designed for men and women in mind, macOS)
And now i am looking from this point of view at the others...and trust me from criticaly point of view and with a high attention to detail from design and hardware point of view inside and out, Apple is far far far away from the others.
Apple has all of their devices MEANT to be the most balanced items (except like i said with current iphone generation vs S7)
[doublepost=1464467403][/doublepost]Trust me everyday i cry because i cant invite people in my workshop to see my day work and to see the difference between apple products and the rest of the world from every point of view. i still cant believe they can think about some things i would and most of other normal people never think about when they make a choice/choices

I see your point and wish this will still be true after the WWDC...if still we're going to have a new HW release by then

Keep the same form factor...and instead use terraced batteries - give us 12 hours battery life...

I might be missing something but I believe terraced batteries were made because the rMB 12in has a design where it tapers toward the end (toward the user). That is the reason why terraced batteries were made, to fill out the small space at the end. If the macbook pro keeps the same design (its a straight box aka no taper), there is no need for terraced batteries. Or am i missing something here?

For example, i can talk about 1 thinking behind the current macbook and 13" macbook pro thinking
Just one example to see the thinking behind Apple business point of view.
Apple first macbook 12" retina i had was a 128 ssd, but the only reason for that was the starting price point. but they did not release that because, apple wants your best experience right? so what is macbook, like i said facebook etc so a CONSUMER device, so a consumer device means a lot of music files or movies, so they release a base model with 256 to have more space and not to be constrained by that.
Why they release a 13" MBP with base model 128SSD? a macbook pro is meant to be for a more than consumer(since you have the macbook for that), so maybe someone who only had 1 app that work at and thats it but he needs ports and more cpu power. So they made this base model for those who needs more power but not so much space for 1 app or even for those who use a lot external hdd.
and this is just a little of Apple thinking based just from space start from 2 products....and now think how they think for the rest of the device, like battery, thin, ports, light, design, material of the product and 10 things more.
When i receive from Apple what they need from me, trust me for 1 prototype i receive a freaking over 1200 pages pdf
When i receive from Dell or upcoming surface device its like a book with 90 pages
And from that i learn how high is the ambition of Apple for that particularly device/project

you're right, but rumors point to a more thin design similar to the one used for the rMB, the problem is that with that design it would be almost impossibile to replace the battery.

dont forget that also Macbook air has similar design and no terraced batteries
If i were Apple i would keep the non retina screen, same prices but make terraced batteries and increase the battery from 12 hours to 14hours

Yes, you would be correct in saying that. I should have clarified that if they are instead going towards a slanted form factor....they should incorporate terraced batteries. Sorry for the confusion.

no one can say at the moment.
i mean, look at iPhone SE, look at the rumors about the new iPhone, small design (or none) changes, but big internal improvements.
it's somehow sad, i have to admit, waiting for a new apple products hoping that it's more conservative as possible to have the best reliability/quality.

I'm quite happy with the iPhone SE. Its a tested, beautiful design with updated internals. Its one of the smarter decisions that Tim Cook has taken. (When it drops to $299...its gonna sell like crazy).

On a side note, after using the SE for almost 2 months now...I think I can see why Steve envisioned for the phone to be kept locked at 4". Its a perfect, comfortable experience. My first iPhone was the 6 and although they are wonderful, I find the iPhone SE being more "portable" and also more "productive." Personally, when I had the 6, I was consuming more content, due to the larger screen of course, and I found myself wasting more time than now. With the SE, I find myself using it more as a "phone" and less as a "smartphone". Although when I need it to be a smartphone, e.g., facebook, finding directions, quick searches, facetiming, taking photos, reminders...it does that perfectly as well.

Its less of a distraction to me than the larger phones...be it iOS or Android.

Just my take on iPhones...or more broadly smartphones.

As for computers or notebooks, I prefer a larger screen. So a 16" Macbook Pro is something Im still hoping for.

Seems to me like this new laptop is shaping itself to become a damn good yardstick of just how much Apple is still in the game, I mean, the scratching-my-head-to-WTF-is-this, kind of game.

Assuming Apple doesn't upgrade the base RAM or storage and price will be a limiting factor for me, should I upgrade RAM to 16GB or storage to 256GB?
I would go with ram. The ssds are almost always upgradable but who knows man. Also 8gb is more than enough in today's world. 16 is future proof. 32 if you video edit / whatever

You are talking about the 13" mbp i guess since the 15" is having 16 gb ram and 256 ssd as standard

For my personal needs I'd prefer two 256 SSD in the 15" rMBP. Many applications benefit greatly from a separate scratch disc...it's an easily achievable 'pro' feature.
