After looking into it more, turns out that it has to do with the fact that connecting the logic board with the dGPU with lead-free based solder,

Just so you know it's the law for this type of solder to be used, I don't know why but some devices suffer greatly due to it, like the Xbox 360 had all it's terrible issues, yet the Playstation 3 did not.

I guess it's down to faulty manufacturing processes, or design flaws, or flaws in the heat dissipation.

I don't think the MBP announcement at WWDC is happening. Apple is lazy and only cares about watch bands.

I don't know about "lazy" - the redesign, whenever it eventually arrives, looks to be major - but they seem to have their priorities wrong, particularly for the Pro market. They seem to think that extreme delays between updated are ok, because everyone can just cope with an iPad Pro, for some reason.

Is it against the law everywhere though? I believe the us does not have a federal law against it while the EU does.

Exactly, xbox was a design flaw in the way they had the heatsinks clamped to the board. But on laptops the problem is that the dgpu is to hot to often and thats why the problems are so frequent.

I too agree with you that this redesign is going to be major (major in the sense that there will be new never before seen features) and one thatll greatly differentiate it from the current rMacBook lineup.

WWDC will be exactly 4 years since the MBP was last redesigned...so WWDC seems the most probable event to see a redesign.

Yeah, as it will be such a major change, I doubt they'd just let it have a press release. I mean, they seemingly pretty much dedicate events to new Apple Watch bands, so the MBP should at least get a mention on stage. Though that means if they don't say anything at WWDC, it'll be September at the earliest, and I really need it for university by then... Apple's mysterious ways can be enjoyable, but now it's getting quite frustrating.

Honestly, I can't imagine that you had your logic board replaced five times and then you had to demand a new machine. It's after three repairs that you automatically get a replacement.

hey I actually have a late 2013 15in MacBook Pro that I have had a lot of problems with recently. I already have gotten two repairs in the past month. once for the staingate (delamination of the display) and another one for video issues. this video issue problem happens randomly. but it always happens when I'm converting in handbrake. (also happens in random applications such as editing a pdf in preview etc). btw my mbp doesn't have dgpu. just Intel iris pro. I have video proof and I already sent it for repair once for that problem. and the issue still persists. do you think I might get an replacement the next time I come into Apple?

"This is serious. We need to get this man to a hospital!"
"A hospital? What is it?"
"It's a big building with patients in it, but that's not important right now..."
I have a question

A question? What is it?

An interrogative statement designed to test knowledge but that's not important right now

Manage to get that joke into meetings at least three times a year #winning

Techs and Specs are obviously related to what the market has to offer, and that's not so secret, the big question is around the implementation of those techs.
at the moment one of the most interesting thing is, IMHO, the possibilities offered by thunderbolt 3; but honestly do you think that apple would create something like the razor core? i hope to be wrong, but i think they will not.

i think that if something new is coming to macbook pros it must come from the mobile experience developed in the iDevices.

is series7000 aluminium better in heat dissipation? they've invested a lot lately on materials r&d(sapphire glass, ion-x, series 7000 aluminum, the unforgettable liquid metal)

From what I understand, the three repair rule before replacing has to do with the same exact thing. If your dGPU fails three times and has been in repair three times for that issue, they will replace it if you have further issues. However, I don't think you can combine your Staingate issue and your iGPU issue. Both count as one. Since this is only the second issue with video, they will probably opt to repair in my opinion. Of course, I could be wrong and they opt to replace it. These things are always at the discretion of Apple.

I'm gonna laugh so hard when the crowd doesn't do their usual applauding thing after Tim Cook ends the keynote without announcing the new mbps just like the March event.

Assuming Apple doesn't upgrade the base RAM or storage and price will be a limiting factor for me, should I upgrade RAM to 16GB or storage to 256GB?

I'd wait for a teardown to see if anything is upgradeable. Knowing Apple they'll solder everything. One of the main reasons I'm probably gonna go for a dell xps 15, I can replace most things

I have NO idea what 'rekt' means???

And yes they will announce them. KGI Securities have already stated so, new MacBook Pro's to be launched in the fourth quarter and Apple's fourth quarter starts at the end of June.

I make no apology for trusting the words of a source for Apple leaks that has been proven time after time after time after time to be 100% accurate, rather the take what a totally random person on an internet forum with zero credentials or reputation say's

from thecultofmac KGI's record:

seems accurate on what apple will launc, but no so accurate on WHEN.

Nope. I don't even think Apple released any TB2 devices. The only thing they released was the TBD (still TB1), Ethernet and FireWire adapters. Apple left the peripheral market to third parties which imo works well. Would I like to see official Apple eGPU? Hell yes. But players like Akitio, Promise, G-Tech, Lacie, Sonnet etc are bringing nice solutions riding every fabric available (usb3.0/usb-c/tb1/2/3/esata/fw800). Heck you can even buy a promise tb2 enclosure right alongside AppleCare when buying a new MacBook.

I have no idea, I would guess so though? Because every device is made the same in the same factory, it's due to environmental reasons and poisonous fumes I think which is why they changed the solder used.
I thought it was because when computers are thrown into landfills you now are going to have it leak out. I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong will it until this point. In reality if everyone just properly disposed of their computers it shouldn't be a problem. Hell I would sign a waiver saying that if I don't sell my computer to someone I would have to dispose of it properly if it meant I could have lead solder.

As an addition to the iGPU vs dGPU discussion, there is a handy little app called gfxCardStatus which lets you know which GPU is currently being used (and notifies you when it switches). You can even prevent the system using the dedicated GPU if you want to save battery.

The most recent Iris Pro graphics are pretty impressive (~1.1 TFLOPS) and will be a welcome upgrade from the current 256 GFLOPS iGPU in my rMBP (650 GFLOPS dGPU). The next dGPU is supposedly in the 2.5 TFLOPS range so it's still offers a significant performance increase over the iGPU (both 2.5 ish). Either way, I'm keen

I definitely would like 512GB, but I'm also wavering on 8 or 16GB. I have 8GB at the moment and occasionally the memory pressure in activity monitor goes orange or red when I'm using Photoshop and a few other apps, but not sure if 16GB would be worth the upgrade. The only factor making me think I should is that there's no possibility to do it later.

Maybe they'll start the 13" at 16GB standard like the 15"..? Hopefully..?!
Well, that's always the problem.., you have to pre-buy technology. Buy the 16GB - you never know when you're going to need it. Right now, you can upgrade the storage but the RAM is soldered in. Plus, if you ever want to run a VM, you'll need that memory.
