The fact is: Apple views smartwatches as the future. Laptops are not the future; they're old hat. They're not going to be terribly enthusiastic about a hardware form that's dying out in most markets.

I can't see a world where more people have smartwatches than laptops.

It's not practical.
 
You know what's going to happen?

"Aaaand now we are going to tell you about new Macbooks... oops... we ran out of time because we spent too much time on the Watch... ok nevermind, we'll tell you about the Macbooks in September then"

I really, really wish that Apple would come to their senses and realize that Smartwatches are not the next big thing, and that no matter how hard they try, they will never be. Just because you are Apple doesn't mean you can make consumers go gaga over something. Who on earth wants to do their computing on a tiny, tiny screen that makes the original iPhone look large when they can just do it on their phones which are always nearby?

Perhaps they will come to their senses and divert their resources (both money and employees) back to iOS and Mac; that way they can focus on giving those platforms some much needed love and attention.
