yeah 2015 rMB. 'surely i could deal with the spec decrease', famous last words.
Good to know, I was honestly considering it because of the delay, but I guess I still need to wait

Consider the happiness when Skylake MacBook Pros are announced lol. Macrumors servers will be crushed haha. We'll get to a 1000 pages, no matter what happens, mark my words

I'm genuinely scared that Macbook Pro's are not for this year and only for the next one

Maybe next year with .... ...... :D ..... KABY LAKE ?

Joking .. Anyway I guess it is going to be late '16. Even though I just need the new machine in 02/2017 I would be glad to see it released earlier. :apple:

It's been so long I'm actually windowshopping for a 5k imac instead of a MBP these days. The ram is basically free once you can upgrade it yourself, and I like good screens...

More chances of an update soon in an iMac than a MBp (certainly a MP or a Mac Mini).

Did someone a while back show release dates for MBP compared to Intel CPU arch - eg the length of time for tick vs tock?

Have Macs come out quicker when the revision on same 28nm/20nm/14nm come out

No way.
Why do you think so?
That would be a huge mistake by Apple.

We already at the end of July and there's literally no links apart from the OLED bar. I know Macs aren't as popular as iPhones, but still, if it's to be released in September, wouldn't you think we would have got more leaks?

If what we've heard about it is true(that it's ready since Early 2016) and it will be released in Q4 along with Sierra, then maybe it makes sense. I don't think they started mass producing them already, but have everything ready to start. Who knows, I hope this is the case!

Sold my MacBook Pro 15in 2013 right before wwdc expecting something great to happen. Was really disappointed. Now I'm using an 2009 dell xps m1330 with 160gb hard drive, 2gb of ram, and CPU that gives me burns on my lap. But guess what? I got used to it in 2 days. I'm 20 and I don't find a big difference going from the Retina display to my 1200 x 800 res display. Sure programs load slowly and not instantly but hey I can get a cup of coffee in the mean time.

And the most exciting part of this all? The dell is completely upgradeable. In a couple of days, I'm going to upgrade to 4gb of ram (8gb of ddr2 ram is $180 dollars. Wtf), a new batttery and upgrading to a 240gb ssd. Really excited and gave me a reason to take my mind off waiting for the new MacBook Pro.

Oh and btw if the new MacBook Pro doesn't come out before November, I'm just going to get a 12in macbook

I was going to go for a 5K iMac last October, but decided to build $1200 Gaming PC and put an SSD in my 2011 iMac. I lost the convenience of having my general purpose desktop and gaming PC in one machine, but I'm pleased. $1000 cheaper than an M395X 5K iMac and my GTX 970 can max out pretty much any modern game at 1080p/1440p.

I technically don't 'need' another laptop, but as tech geek I can't help but want to upgrade my rMBP.

I believe that was me. I compared the time Intel says their processor was launched on ARK to when Apple released the MBP with that processor.

I didn't compile any data for other products.

I use a PS4. I do play some strategy games, but I can deal with playing EU4 and CivV instead of Total War: Warhammer....

That would be much clearer if it was simply "8 months" instead of "2nd month, two quarters later"

And in the meanwhile Apple releases 2 videos for how great the iPhone takes pictures... Is it that they don't understand how late they are releasing actual products? Arghhh

I wonder if they see a change in the amount of apps submitted to the app store depending on sales of the powerful machines.

Back on page 723, I looked at all the processors used for MBPs. Surprisingly, there have only been 8 going back to the introduction in February 2006. This isn't counting any minor spec bumps:

Listing 2 cores for example, and the amount of time between processors
Core Duo ("Yonah") 8 months before processor change
Core 2 Duo ("Merom") 16 months before processor change
Core 2 Duo ("Penryn") 26 months before processor change
Westmere Core i7 ("Arrandale") 11 months before processor change
Sandy Bridge Core i7 (2-core) 15 months before processor change
Ivy Bridge Core i7 (2-core) 16 months before processor change
Haswell Core i7 (2-core) 17 months before processor change
Broadwell Core i7 ULT (2-core) 16 months and counting

Average Time between processors: 15.6 months, with 8 months on the low side and 26 months on the high side. As of mid-July we are right at the average range of 15-17 months now. I hope that Penryn to Arrandale timeframe is an outlier never to be repeated.

We have seen chassis prototypes photos, we have heard about the OLED bar, plus rumors about Polaris for next Macs, we know for sure that Skylake CPU are ready for MBP, and finally Ming Chi Kuo said "Q4 for next MacBook".
Especially the last part is very important.
So I still believe september/october.

Those are the 13" I guess? Because the current Top of the Line 15" uses a Haswell.

Sounds like you don't really need a Pro version anyway so why spend the extra money on it get a Macbook or Air.

i just bought a current 15" MBP 2.5GHZ that the previous owner bought in mid Feb this year. It has AppleCare until Feb 2019 and i paid $2000. basically brand new and would cost me a tiny bit over $3000 with tax.
If a new MBP came out in a few months, i would be ok with it. If the new MBP is wicked faster than the one i have now, worst case scenario is I sell it for a slight loss.

but the computer i upgraded from was a mid 2011 iMac i bought new in 2011. It was the base model and i only upgraded the RAM to 16GB and it served me beautifully for the last 5 years with no hiccups. and the MBP is twice as fast as mine, according to geek bench scores .

until then, i will enjoy the new computer :)

I honestly would have bought the 2015 MacBook Pro right now if I had the money. Had to spend a bunch of money on school and books so right now I'm working back up to pay for the MacBook Pro. Don't know if it's a blessing or curse lol

I'm genuinely scared that Macbook Pro's are not for this year and only for the next one

It sounds unfathomable that Apple would wait until January 2017 to release an update. But it's not. Why? Because Apple does not listen to anyone. They are releasing an iPhone 7 that is essentially an iPhone 6s, with almost little upgrades. They probably don't think that any true upgrades exist these days, and they're right. Phones are almost the same now with nothing revolutionary on the horizon. Same thing with the macbook pro. Because of the SSD and the retina screen, anything they release will be a little faster, but for the vast majority of the market, as in 99.5%, when a program starts in 2 seconds vs 1.5 is not going to be enough to warrant an upgrade.

And so Apple sits tight knowing that until someone duplicates Mac OS X's usability, or engineers as nice of a trackpad, they do not need to do anything. It's kind of a smug stubborness and sticking to their principles no matter what. Which I admire but also dislike.

The truth is that the longer they go without an update and the more people whine about it yet DO NOT leave Apple (which would be the case with many other companies), the more this shows that in many people's minds there are no acceptable alternatives and proves Apple's point that they're still way ahead in the laptop game. It also shows that in order to get a trackpad that finely tuned and an OS that usable, it requires supreme focus that no one consciously notices yet require so much engineering time and a company culture attuned to fanatical levels of detail.

People whine about a lack of innovation, but since no one else has a trackpad nor screen nor os and certainly no entire package at a reasonable price (macbook pro retina 13), it shows that 1) it ain't easy to get the "basics" right 2) the "basics" in the long-run are what yield long-term customer satisfaction and loyalty 3) Apple could wait yet another year and suffer little.

You can cut and paste the same story for Android. Apple's making all the profits (ok, 95%) and showing that in the end, reliability, security, and smoothness, i.e., quality---that's what sets you up for long-term success. Do it right and you'll be fine.

I'm OK waiting until something truly better comes along the horizon.

I'd consider switching to Windows 10 if there are two criteria met:
1) a usable trackpad
2) native linux support (thereby making it very similar to mac)
2.5) Cheaper than mac on price by at least 1/3. Anything less than 1/3 and I'll just pay for the mac because in the end the money I'll save won't be felt after next year. It's this last point that I think windows will have a hard time beating, because stick in quality components and require higher manufacturing tolerances and uh oh, the price advantage just shrunk. Oh, and manufacture in an ethically honorable manner, too. That drives up costs. I don't know that Apple is does things on the up and up, but certainly because they are more scrutinized, they are are the leaders in this area. It adds to the final cost.

For these reasons I see Apple's next macbook pro as a nice thing to have but not mandated by the market as the overall market is not focused on quality. Everyone wants quality in the long-term. Few people end up wanting cheaper stuff as they grow older. They realize, IF they can at all afford it, that they've got limited time on earth and more quality stuff will lead to less headaches in the medium to long-term. Apple's woes regarding profit growth is due to the saturation of the market and them having all the market share of the entire world. That's a math problem, meaning when you've got near 100% there's only one direction to go: down. They've sold an Iphone to everyone who wants one now. If they cut the macbook pro entry price to $699 they'd sell a mac to everyone else in the world.

C'mon people, I understand that many of you have been waiting for a long time by now, but there really is no reason to believe Apple will wait until 2017.

I still think there's a more than good chance that we see new Macbooks during the iPhone-September-Event despite October usually being Macbook-month in the past. Maybe they present it in September and ship in October with Sierra?

Intel announced in their earnings call to Kaby Lake is already shipping because their yields in Q1 and Q2 turned out to be better than what they expected. What that means for rMBPs is anybody's guess. Either they will announce the new rMBP wth Kaby Lake or the CPU will be outdated from the day the new rMBPs are launched. I think the former is much more likely than the latter.
