I am starting to believe that there are bigger issues with the skylake G4e part and that is why Apple has not released yet. Couple the lack of Geekbench results, with apple's delay = chip has issues. Apple will not release a very popular laptop (huge volume) with a troublesome chip. Apple cannot state this publicly (don't want to blame intel) - but Im starting to lean towards this as reason.

Or maybe Im delusional and Im just trying my hardest to find a coping strategy to get me through the next X months.

There is a reason: lots of people pay those ridiculous prices. And until *you* stop this abusive relationship by buying a different computer, Apple will keep overcharging. They might drop the prices some with the next rev, but they will still overcharge, and you know it.

If it helps at all, I never upgrade the storage. I always stick with the 512 stock lol.

Some people HAD to buy at this price because they NEED a new machine right now (mainly because their computer died or are closed to and they can't change there entire workflow in a day).
That good for apple, they are making a lot of money TODAY... but, in 4 or 5 years, when they will need a new computer, where will be the loyalty of those consumers that feel they are getting ripped off by a very greedy company?...

Sounds like you are using the Rationalization coping strategy. Whatever helps.

In defense of Apple - they charge $1280 for an upgrade of 256 to 1024. So basically Apple is charging $1280 for 768gb PCIe Flash.

Meanwhile the fastest SSDs available with 700-800GB go for lots more. Just take the top 3 and check Amazon. Turns out you can easily pay 2-4k just for 700 GB PCIe Storage.

Im surprised myself.

I need them to do something about this. No reason in hell...

slowly getting there...

Those are enterprise grade SSDs, not consumer grade. Those are extremely reliable compared to consumer grade SSDs, because they are supposed to handle writes 24/7 non stop... A consumer grade SSD will only last a few months in that situation.

More or less ready to give up, hop off the Apple cart and get a Dell XPS. With Aperture gone there's nothing really holding me to macOS any more other than Windows 10 spyware concerns and Linux's glacial progress towards the 21st century. If the rumours of TouchID are true that'll be great as I'm sick of typing the length of password we need to have nowadays... but it's a long time to find out.

I'm actually pretty happy it got delayed for such a long time. I was on the verge of buying a new MBP 15" but wanted to wait for the Skylake one. This made me have to figure out ways I could reduce CPU load in programs I was using, and now my old Macbook 13" performs well enough for every task I desire. Had it not been for this long wait I would've thrown away over 2000€ during a time when I desperately need to hold on to every penny.

This is something more people should be doing. Unfortunately, the people who might need it the most don't have the know how to even start looking for guides to learn how...

I'm thinking there is no way the prices of the stock models stay the same. I say they go up by at least $100-200. Think about the high price people are paying for the MB now. New design means $$$.

I'm thinking they drop the price of the MB when the MBP hits to put a little bit of space between both entry models that are currently starting at $1299.

The oft-mentioned MBA is also showing its age at 500 days. I still can't see Apple offering an ultra-portable as an entry level machine and nixing the MBA. The gap between the $899 11" Air and the $1299 MB is important.

The latest 15" macbook pro now has a 4 generations old cpu! I don't see any way that apple could still be serious about the macbook.

You'll probably be getting a super thin macbook pro with dual core as the highest option
