For $1500, I just got an rMBP 2.8ghz, 512 SSD applecare till Jan 2019. Would I be regretted when Apple release the new model this year?

The main upgrades foreseen in the newer models will be GPU based. Other iffy but possible upgrades are pointed towards I/O and design changes. If GPU speeds are of concern, the newer models will be beneficial (not that the Iris 6100 are like the earlier Intel graphics in anyway, Intel has come a long way). Other than that, its hard to say if the newer models will be significantly better.

If GPU speeds are of concern just don't buy any macbook.

Cool :) how did you extract that? :)
A posts per day graph would also be cool. Must clearly show some recent tragedies ;)

Using some simple Mathematica code (Wolfram Language). I think each page has 25 comments. So number of posts and number of pages is kinda the same metric (just multiply the vertical axis by 25)...

You can see the 'vertical' part of the line around June 13 and March 21 (both Apple events) i.e. lots of new pages in a few days. Last month has been kinda steady as you can see...

Been away for a few days but when I saw Kaby Lake shipping news on the front page I thought "The Thread must be going crazy". Yeah, The Thread.

Gotta say I'm slightly disappointed though

Surely they won't wait for Kaby Lake as well? If they're always waiting for the newest processor, there will never be a new MacBook. There is always a new processor around the corner.

I think this risks being a Duke Nukem Forever thing - it eventually takes so long it becomes a running gag and when it does finally come out no one cares about it any more because the world has moved on.

The fun part of Kaby Lake? Apple can't keep it secret when Intel has a CPU hat would be MBP compatible actually release. At least we can find that ou through other manufacturers making and releasing products.

I expected the same, but there's legit nothing to talk about. It was an article saying that kaby procs were shipping (which we already knew), and none of them are suitable for any outdated macs (which we know well along with the Mac pro folks).

At this point we wait until oct for Sierra or PRAY that mac-centric invites are sent out in late august for a sept reveal.

Schiller is cool, and Federicki.

Federicki is ok because he atleast pretends to care about macOS. Good presenter, dope hair.

Who here wants Mansfield back on the Mac instead of (presumably) on Ax though that would NEVER happen. Those were the golden days.

And while i'm name dropping, I never realized that Mansfield came back from retirement primarily because they axed Forstall, very interesting.

Totally agree with upgrade prices. There is simply no reason to charge a premium of $200 to upgrade from 128 to 256gb Flash or the same amount for going from 8 to 16 GB of Ram.

For 200 you can buy a 1tb ssd or 32 gb good ram and thats talking retail prices. Im pretty sure Apple can negotiate much better prices with the manufactures directly.

There is only 1 reason to keep upgrade tiers and outdated Macs that high -> poor greed.

Even as a real Apple Fanboy i have a hard time convincing myself that this is right.

Apple has always had excessive margins on in house upgrades. Now they are mandatory if you need more than the base models. Clearly Apple feel that they have a monopoly and continue to charge ridiculous price points for basic upgrades, equally Mac`s sales are declining rapidly, nor do I foresee a paradigm shift on Apple`s behalf. So to me the outlook for the Mac is bleak at best.

The passion that brought the Mac into existence has been replaced with corporate greed and general indifference, led by a CEO who openly denounces the personal computer in favour of the iPad. Under the current management team we can only expect to pay more for less, with the Mac playing very much "second fiddle" to iToys.

I seriously question when the sole defining factor is thinner & lighter. One rather expects a Professional/Prosumer notebook to offer the very best in performance & utility. As a result I find it difficult to get exited about the upcoming 2016 models, the less is more paradigm is getting old, I want the MBP to be an effective mobile workstation, meeting my needs & expectations, not a tricked up Air in pink. As time passes Apple is simply becoming less relevant in the PC space.

Ultimately I find it difficult to support a vendor who does not equally prioritise it`s PC business, with Apple the results are clear; a subpar hardware lineup combined with rushed buggy OS releases, add in Apple`s amusing pricing strategy no surprises here that Mac sales are dropping Q on Q. Certainly for me from a business owners perspective Apple is firmly "out the door"...

Q-6

hahaha I love how the march and june events are vertical asymptotes. We've done good work!
Seems like the outrage lasted longer for WWDC then the march event according to that too

Its funny that these small reports about computer parts get more posts then the iPhone leaked parts. Apple take note of this....

I think that's because 1) there's 500 articles about "iPhone 7 rumoured to be thinner than iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 7 rumoured to come in navy blue colour" and 7 about Macs; 2) everybody knows that iPhone 7 is coming and when it will be revealed, and as for Macs... uh... "what are those mags you speak about?" – Tim Cook.

iPhones or smartphones in general (top tier) have a problem. What can you seriously upgrade anymore? I own a 6 plus. 1.5 days battery life, Full Hd Screen, optical image stabilization and a very fast CPU. Not sure what Apple can do to convince to spend 1000€ for the 7.

Sorry derail over.

too bad my 6+ can't keep apps open for S***. Once you close and start using another app and go back into the other one it reloads(i know its a ram issue fixed in the 6s & +). Competition will push innovation. Its what apple needs. Theres plenty of room of innovation imo.
