EXACTLY my dilemma as well… and I know we aren't the only two feeling this way...My biggest fear is that they go too far off the deep end - like creating a brand new OS that is like IOS, crippling the pro market for a while. I've been a video editor for 15 years, so basically, I'm worried that they'll release the new MacBooks (and macs) with the OS that is the equivalent to FCPX.
As most know, FCPX was a disaster for its first year, and many shops (including my own) were eagerly awaiting the new release by using outdated software (FCP 7). Once FCPX was released and was at least a year away from being ready for professional use, it kind of messed up all of our plans. So what were we to do? Either wait it out on really old software, switch to Adobe/Avid, or jump in. All three options were less than ideal.
Now that I rely on portability for my career, I really need a top of the line laptop. My 2012 RmBP is still running strong, but at nearly 4 years old it makes me nervous, and I want a secondary machine for rendering, transcoding etc. I don't want to switch to a Windows/Linux computer because I like the way I have everything working right now - changing everything is a bit of a nightmare.
I have simple needs - more power, faster processing, better graphics card, and the option for 32gb of ram. Everything else I can take or leave - OLED bar is kind of cool (but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer F keys), I don't care about touch ID, I don't really care if it's thinner, or what colour it is.
USB-C is cool, but at the same time it's annoying to carry around adapters - realistically it will be a little while until portable USB-C drives are available that actually can take advantage of the extra speed availability. Most portable thunderbolt drives aren't fast enough to actually require anything beyond USB3.
I wouldn't mind a computer that doesn't burn my legs when it's on my lap for extended periods of time either. Extra screen real estate would be amazing (I'd love for the 17 inch to make a comeback, but not holding my breath).
Same. I'm not excited anymore. That died in June. Now I just want a freakin laptop and can't believe I may not have one for the first half of my freshman year of college. Hopefully it ends up coming sooner than that though![]()
Yeah it wasn't fraud at all. I told them the whole story and they helped me out.why is it fraud if apple willingly takes back headphones without a receipt. Wheres the fraud in that? its not technically "stealing" its their return policy. Usually apple asks for receipts for everything nowadays not sure how they just did a special case with him but it was done and was done "legally".

It's killer. If apple doesn't announce any new 13.3" rMBP's next week I'll buy one of the Razer Blade no doubt about it. I just wish it was available now.
In my mind there is a huge chance that apple will announce the new rMBP redesigned on Monday. My 2013 rMBP is crapping out and I set up an appointment on march 21st for a repair through applecare at 2:15pm 2 hours and 15 minutes after the announcement (according to apple they just may replace it because it's been 4 repairs so far on this one) so here I am hoping that I won't have it replaced with a 2015 rMBP, but with a brand new shiny rMBP 2016.
Just bought an iPad Pro 12.9 for $630. Will sell it once I get my hands on a new rMBP 2016.
I got a really good deal on the rMBP 15" back in January! check out this screen shot from my reward zone from best buy. But stupid me I sold it thinking there would be an update on March 21st. I sold it for $1800. So after reward certificates I made about $405.
Price matching at best buy.
I have been trying to sell my iPad Pro but everyone is bailing out on me, any recommendations guys?
Sold my iPad Pro 12.9" YESSS!!!!!
Took my rMBP in for repair (trackpad issues) finally after 3 months of suffering with it. They may replace the whole computer, but we shall see. If so I'll tell them not yet and wait about 2-2 1/2 months more for skylake. *FINGERS CROSSED*
I just bought the macbook 12" silver for $1,288 after taxes. Is that a decent deal? I have 45 days to return it if I don't like it.
My rMBP is finally out of the shop yes. They replaced the logic board, I hope they put skylake in it by accident.
I am with you brother, I only replace my laptop when apple replaces it for me for free through apple care. The first time it was a 2009 (3 times defective) Macbook and then a 2011 (also 3 times or more defective) Macbook Pro and then my current 2013 (has messed up about 5 or 6 times so far) Macbook Pro retina. So for me it's on average of about 2 and 1 half years until my laptops crap out and apple will replace it for me through my extended applecare plan/s. Technically they could have replaced my laptop today when I picked it up I pointed it out to them that it's been in for many repairs for my trackpad and they asked if I wanted a replacement I said no not yet, I'll give it another chance. I really meant let's hold off until 2016 skylake rMBP's.
Would it be worth it to buy a Macbook 12" 512gb for $700? Reason it's $700 is it has been dropped and has a dent in one of the corners. Thanks and also it doesn't have skylake in it that's probably another reason.
My 2013 rMBP only has 5 cycles. The reason for this is I have had the battery replaced once and the trackpad replaced 2 or 3 times. Every time there is something wrong with my trackpad (which is shortly every time they repair my laptop) they have to replace the battery and keyboard too because it's all connected. So in the last year I have had 3 to 4 new batteries in my 2013 rMBP 13". I have an extended applecare plan and haven't paid an additional dime for all of the repairs. But my trackpad is acting up again. I will wait to take it in again and am waiting for wwdc when they announce (for sure) the new 2016 Skylake macbook pro's.
I want to buy a used mb 12" gold 256 ssd for $475 used, is it worth it? 49 more days until WWDC! YEA BABY
Guys I bought a macbook 12" 2015 model today from someone on craigslist. everything seemed to be working fine but then when I got home it was icloud locked, are there any ways to contact the original owner to give them back their laptop?
No kidding, the 2016 rMBP better be good! My trackpad is acting funny on my 2013 rMBP for the 4th time. Next time I take it in (probably for skylake 2016 rMBP) they will probably be replacing it.
I haven't been to E3 for a while. I wish tickets were cheaper.
My trackpad on my macbook pro retina it acting up it doesn't click correctly and is non-responsive sometimes. Also my rMBP has been crashing a lot, it never used to do that ever before.
I just had better be before Dec. 16th, 2016 because that's when my apple care expires. They should be replacing my rMBP because they've done multiple repairs for the same reason over the years. The trackpad it bad.

I agree!
Thanks!

I haven't bought a macbook or macbook pro since 2010. I always buy applecare and have gotten 2 different replacements because of faulty hardware in the past. Now my 2013 rMBP 13" trackpad has been fixed 3 times and now it is bad again. Apple will be replacing my whole 2013 rMBP 13" for sure next time (Lord Willing). Because last year they also replaced my SSD and this year battery, and keyboard two or three times.
People in my area are selling the macbook pro retina 128gb for like $700 should I wait until all the huge announcements on Monday before I buy?
My trackpad is acting up again and if there is an announcement on Monday for the new macbook pro 2016 then I am going to make an appointment for my macbook pro retina and have them replace it for a shiny new 2016 macbook pro. If it is announced and if it is released soonish. Made an appt. for monday june 13th, 2016 at 4pm good idea, bad idea?
I used to have a top of the line (back then) iMac and I sold it for top dollar back then.
Just bought a Macbook Pro Retina 13" late 2013 (without skylake unfortunately) for $700 off of a guy through craigslist it has 256gb of ssd, did I get a decent deal?
I have bought a few iPhones off of craigslist and they all were found out to be stolen after I bought them. The people file a "lost" phone claim and the phone isn't usable anymore.
They buy the phone and then buy insurance, sell it to me and then report it stolen. It then gets blacklisted and they get a new non-blacklisted phone. Jerks!!!!
Just got a pair of beats studio 2.0 wired for cheap at the swap meet ($45), the right ear didn't work and I took them into the apple store and they replaced them for a brand new pair of Beats Studio Matte Black wireless ($379.95) no questions asked (besides where is the receipt and I told them I didn't have one and they made a one time thing where I didn't have to have the receipt). So long story short I bought a $45 pair of defective headphones and traded them for a $379.95 (in the apple store pair of wireless headphones. This is what I do while waiting for skylake.
A little bit of both (I am a risk taker). Thanks for the tribute.I didn't realize who the OP was until you replied... You're either amazing with saving money or terrible, I'm not quite sure at this point. Thanks for some entertaining stories, though!
I'm interested in whether Skylake has any inbuilt support for e.g. decoding/rendering h264.
Just beware, this is NOT an eGPU enclosure contrary to what Razer Core is. It can only drive 25W to the PCI-E device in it which is not enough for GPU.Everyone get your credit cards out, Akitio is releasing their Thunder3 PCIE Box soon.
Akitio Releases Thunder3 PCIe Box, the World’s First Thunderbolt™ 3 PCIe Expansion Chassis
$300 bucks, only ~$70 dollars more than what you will get the Thunder2 PCIe box for and $200 cheaper than Razor Core.
For those of you wondering about compatibility, well, Apple and Akitio never officially supported Thunder2 box for eGPU but it is the enclosure of choice for TB2 Based eGPU setups. so even if we never get official hot swap plug and play support it'll still work for many tasks.

I'd say if launched in October - 99% Skylake, November - 80% Skylake, next spring - 99% Kabylake.Might be a silly question, but is the 13" rMBP likely to have Skylake or Kaby lake?
No offense, but why do you buy it over and over again?Yeah I think they are in the ball park of correctness. I jumped on a retina macbook 12" today, I got $150 off at best buy. I didn't literally jump on it because I didn't get the "accidental" protection.... that was extra.

Haha, wow. I'm in the exact same situation you're in only replace freshman with senior.
