i hope they do NOT drop the mag safe from the pro line. That would be a major disappointment!

Magsafe won't be needed. 1) the power efficiency improvements will mean you do 't need to be plugged in all the time and 2) the machine will be much lighter - MagSafe would need a major redesign. I suspect it will be in the form of a magnetically separating cable plugged into USB-C port. The cable tripping days is a problem from 10 years ago and is largele solved. And if you really need to sit beside a wall all day crunching numbers, why aren't you using a Mac? Faster and higher performance.

Looking at the side of the current model it seams to me there is quite a bit of space left. Everything that is currently chamfered could go away I guess. Seams to be about ⅓ - ¼?

It's impossible to make the Macbook Pro any thinner without dropping USB-A. The only possibility to make it thinner and still use USB-A is by using the same design as the Air but that just doesn't belong on a Pro. So I actually think that they are not going to slim it down in order to keep USB-A. It's to early to go all the way with USB-C.

On the contrary. USB-C accessories are widely available. USB-A ports are horrible. Never mind their ubiquity. The MBP is about the future, not facilitating past mistakes. Anyway, if you really need to connect your legacy peripherals, go buy an adapter. Simples.

Since a few days there are many rumors that apple bring the new MacBook Pro with Skylake yet this year :D But nobody is talking about a redesign this year ... We need to pray ;)

If they thought they could forego Iris Pro, then we might already have had a revision using. the 6700HQ. And no, Apple might be Apple, but they're not powerful enough to somehow make Intel Work faster.

I disagree as a value of semantics. Apple cant make Intel work faster, but Apple could convince Intel to give them full first run access to the chips, essentially allowing launch day availability.

Maybe we are talking semantics, but that time is all but passed. To me the threshold is for Black Friday. We know the iPad Pro is coming out, but there are been radio silence about the Macbook Pros. I'm not so sure they're willing to do that with Skylake or I think they would have jumped at the opportunity using these earlier Skylake chips or even other Broadwell CPUs.

Reputable sources like Mark Gurman or Ming-Chi Kuo still haven't said a word about Skylake MBPs this year, so I'm 99% sure this poster is just talking about more useless clickbait website rumors. To top it all off of course, Skylake HQ chips with Iris Pro 580 still aren't released.
As a longtime 9to5Mac reader it's sad to see what they've done with the site. Gurman is my goto guy for rumours :)

Apple obviously can't force Intel or any company to do anything, but I am sure Apple could per$uade them to give Apple something they really want. Money makes things happen.

One can hope...

A really detailed XPS 15 review is up, hopefully the next macbook pro can outdo the display and size:

Because some of us are in professions that require performance, but spend a lot of the time on the road as well. Being on the road doesn't change the fact that you may need to be plugged in for long periods of time, be that in an airport, hotel or a client's office.

That's not true, most people own their notebooks for 5 years plus and once it's around that age, the battery wont last as long anymore and will require to be plugged in most of the time. And I don't know where you get the idea that omitting magsafe will make the machine much lighter. And again, not everyone is rich enough to own 2 machines.

This is old info I suppose, but since the lack of word on Skylake HQ chips with Iris Pro 580 has been frustrating, I was happy to read that these chips are at least supposed to start being produced in 2015.

"The open question, though, is whether the Skylake parts with Intel's highest-end GT4e graphics configuration will be available in high volumes by early 2016 for a 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro refresh. That said, Intel's PC Client Group chief, Kirk Skaugen, indicated at the IFA trade show in September that Skylake processors with Intel's Iris Pro graphics (i.e., the GT4e graphics configuration) would go into production this year."

If this is still true we're definitely talking Q1.

I'm glad we're now passed the ATV and, after a couple of weeks, iPad Pro launches.

Any leaks on new products may have taken some of the attention from the iPad Pro. I think it's intentional that we haven't heard a peep about the new laptops. The iPad Pro needs room to breathe.

You'd still see chassis and the like by now; I know I said this before many months ago back when people were berating me for buying the refreshed '15 back in June and I feel wholly vindicated. I am almost 100% convinced Apple will not by launching anything with Skylake.

Why?

It's a mediocre part when you compare to the prior gen Crystalwell and Broadwell and almost all of the really neat updates for it are Xeon based only. The only one that gains anything cool is Cannonlake which should be out by around April or June of next year which puts it more in line with the reality of things.

People are going to continue to buy macbooks regardless of what's in them. Skylake is in very high demand and the yields are ****. Given there's almost no difference between them what's the motivation for them to move to Skylake? The only one I can think of is Rezence which again if were true we should have seen chassis out by now that support the induction charging. I think its far more likely for Apple to announce a half-measure if any for Broadwell-U as it has a better thermal envelope and relatively the same performance.

I have no doubt Apple will do a top to bottom redesign of the Macbooks but I think it's more likely to happen mid next year with the release of the Apple Watch 2 and Iphone as to standardize all under a single banner for wireless charging.

Cannonlake is slated for 2018, and Kaby Lake (at least the GT3e and GT4e parts) is planned for Q1 2017. No way in hell they are skipping Skylake since GT3e and GT4e parts will be available in Q1 2016. Yields have also stabilised, and aren't ****. Just a simple google search about the current state of Skylake would have spared you the effort of writing that post. Just imagine the things that you would've done in that period of time.

So you say that it isn't worth to wait because cannonlake is so much better? You say that Cannonlake is announced for Mid 2016... So it's probably the same situation like now with skylake... The good and relevant chips come 4 months after the release of the first chips ...
My actually pc have Sandy Bridge and think hat Skylake is now a chip where it's worth to buy it, or what do you think?

Why would anyone buy a MacBook Pro when you can buy an iPad Pro? Why? (Send your answers to Tim Cook, not to me.)
