Disagree. The current machine is great and will sell well regardless. The MBP is not a huge income earner for Apple (unlike iPhone/iPad/App Store). I think it will be more like Q2 (i.e. WWDC). Better to wait till then and get it perfect. It's a very important machine to the developer community, nevermind that it only accounts for a tiny slice of Apple's profits.

Don't forget we'll also Kaby Lake in 2016, albeit towards the end of the year. That's why it makes sense for apple to release skylake as early as possible as there will be another release at the end of the year.

If Apple does release both in 2016 I wonder if Skylake will get a redesign or wait until Kaby Lake?

I still would love to see Apple switch to 14" and 16" with both having quad cores. Wishful thinking....

What I'm guessing/hoping is that skylake will be as early as possible in the year so jan-March with a view to release Kaby lake at the end of the year. Kaby will get delayed as usual with Intel and will be released Q1 2017.

Some voices here saying that Apple would skip Skylake entirely and wait for Kaby.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

Let me reiterate some of the more nuanced opinions in this thread.

1. Skylake is already in iMac.
2. Appropriate 15" MBP chips will be available in Q1 2016.
3. Kaby with Iris Pro is slated for Q1 2017.

I too think it's a given that Apple will update the Macbook Pro's with the Skylake processors. The only thing that gives me doubts is whether Apple will redesign the Macbook Pro or not. And if they do, will it be together with the Skylake update? Or will it be as a mid-late update because otherwise they won't have anything 'new' for their update cycle.

If this ends up being strictly a spec update I could see apple releasing these fairly early in the year (maybe Jan or Feb). If it ends up being a redesign I could see them waiting until WWDC to release them (usually takes place in June).

If a total redesign was coming with Skylake at the beginning of the year wouldn't we have some kind of leak by now? I just feel like something that big would have some kind of design or feature leaks by now. Am I totally off?

New MacBook Pros are coming (re-design or not) as soon as possible from Apple. Sorry if anyone thinks that Apple's waiting until WWDC in June to unveil a re-designed MacBook Pro with Skylake, you're sadly mistaken.

Was just in the Microsoft Store today, and checked out the new XPS 13 & 15.... Damn! Wow! Kind of makes one wonder?

Even the 15 wasn't overly large, but the 13 felt like a 11 MBA. But those screens!!! Microsoft is pretty easy with the education discount, and I had a couple of the kids along with me, which was enough to qualify me. Price for the 15 with Quad core Skylake i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, Nvidia GPU, 4k Touch screen, etc. was about $1,900. That's a lot of horsepower in a fairly small and light package.

Remember that you have to include rehabilitation for you and your kids. That touchscreen is going to kill your arms ;)

Take a look to the new HP ZBook Studio specs:
http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=4AA6-2676ENUC

The Skylake Intel® Xeon® E3-1545M v5 with Iris P580 is set to 1H16.

I would love to see a rMBP redesigned with Xenon CPU, also the HP has 4K screen, ECC DDR4 and Nvidia quadro options.

I think after what they have done with the Mac Pro, there is a small chance of a machine with this spec emerging from Apple. Something like a redesigned 16-17" rMBP which is truly a top of the line machine unveiled at WWDC to reiterate that Apple is caring for their "pro" market. Small chance.

Note: There's also an available E3-1275m v5 with the Iris P580 due in the same time-frame. So there are at least two SKU's of Xeon processor with the GT4e/P580 graphics available, something Apple would use in differentiating their models price-wise.

The XPS machines are badly made and riddled with problems.

The Dell badge should have been the warning.

More like no chance.

You picked out two RANDOM forum posts to say it's horrible? Yet, the dozens of PRO reviews saying otherwise are useless? Have you played around with it? Nope.

Apple fanboy at it's finest.

Anyone can go into a forum and pick out random complaints. Ever look around here?

How about those endless pages of people who had their retina screen peeling in less than year?

Yet, you pull up a complaint about speakers not being loud enough and questioning build quality. Lol joke.

Yes, I have played around with both the Skylake based XPS 13 & 15, courtesy of Dell. The 13” model is more or less identical to the Broadwell based version, with the same flaws, namely the woeful touchpad & other quirks like the ridiculously placed webcam. The build quality was so-so. The XPS 15 given to me to evaluate didn’t even sit flush on the desk properly, it wobbled. There was lighbleed and things like that which reminded me that the machine was most definitely a Dell.

The issues I experienced with both seem to mirror the complaints that other people had. It’s a shame as Dell came close to producing some great machines, but I couldn’t spend money on a poorly assembled notebook which is supposed to be ‘premium’. If it was £600 I could forgive some of the shortcomings.

I’ve read lots of so-called professional reviews, they seemed to briefly touch upon some of the issues & claimed that most of them would be “fixed with the fall update” which is nonsense. I’m not sure which reviews you read, but in my experience there’s only 5 or 6 places I would say give good professional reviews & most of them are not mainstream media websites/publications.

I appreciate being called an Apple fanboy. It makes total sense as I make and have always made my living in a Windows environment.
