WoW Legion hits Tuesday. So despite the heat, fan noise, and low settings I have to play on, I'll have plenty to keep me busy while the wait continues.

Well, I know most folks here won't give a damn about this, but since I've seen many people doing this, and explaining why, I'll also do it.

I caved in. And bought another laptop. Really need something for the university that delivers good text quality and such. Ended up going for an MSI GS63VR, with 4K screen, GTX 1060, i7 6700HQ, 512GB NVME ssd and 2Tb hard drive. For 2300€.

The Mac would have better screen (this one is pentile I think, looks awesome but I know that even the current Retina 15 would be better), battery (4 h vs 8 h), and build (MSI's not bad, but nowhere near Apple).

Albeit that, it's a bit cheaper, and has a GPU way better than anything the Mac will ever have. Which I am thankfull for, for those ocasional gaming sessions. It's also very thin an light, arround the same dimensions as the Retina 15, so...

Well, I hope you guys get a good Mac. I'm actually scared that the new Mac's will be so awesome that I'll regret caving in for another laptop, but I really needed one, so... I use Windows and Linux, I'm not tied to the Apple ecosystem, I have a Note 7 even, so... x)

I might be caving in soon too. Might get a Dell Precision 7710, or if I decide I don't need battery life, a Clevo P775DM3...I don't mind big laptops and I wish Apple made them too

You should come back in a couple days and give us some impressions. I have been leaning towards this laptop too. I would probably go with the Amazon exclusive one with a 1080p screen, 16GB RAM, and a 512 SSD for $1699 though. I have a late 2013 13" MBPr that I use for work and on the go... I was leaning toward buying the new 15" MBP whenever it came out, but I'm starting to think about alternatives.

I did a lot of gaming when I was in university, that's before DoTA or LoL became mainstream.
So I guess nowadays students need that even more. They have too much time to spend.

I needed something with good screen (4K is good because you can scale UI just like you can in Macbooks, I'll explain the need of this in further ahead), fast storage and good processor.

I study Computer Science, so it's recomended to have either Ubuntu (or any other Linux distro) installed on dual boot, or via Virtual Machine. VM to be fast to use needs good SSD and Quad Core CPU. We also have Graphic Computing, which is slow as hell on an iGPU.

So in this sense I don't 'need' a Gaming laptop, probably a laptop around 800€ would sufice, with a 950M and a quad core cpu, and 1080p screen.

Then again, I code, and as I said earlier, scalling the UI is nice, because you can make text look smaller, just like in the Macs. Here in Portugal laptops with 4K screens start at around 1500€. You add in something that is light and thin to carry arround (I move arround a lot, from library to classrooms, coffeeshops, home and such... So you add all this in and you get to the 'premium' laptop market.

Choises in my country? Considering the Portuguese Keyboard layout? There aren't many, a few plasticky Asus laptops, then you have the Dell XPS 15 which is a hassle to get because there are no distributors, you have to contact Dell and ask them to build one for you (and add in PT layout keyboard and such), and then theres MSI. MSI's have awesome keyboards, made by Steelseries, which are awesome to code on. I was lucky that I had a friend with one so I tried it out.

TL;DR: I Don't 'need' a Gaming laptop because I don't game that much, but given the choises avaiable in my country, and seeing I wanted something powerfull but easy to carry, the choises were less than a handfull.

No problem. But it don't have it just yet, should take a week or so to be delivered.

What about all these iOS betas? There were only five for iOS 9. I'm starting to think that they are not nearly as ready for the September event as we think they were.
Oooh, and there's the front page post about iPhone manufacturing problems. MAYBE that's why there are no invites. I love a good conspiracy theory!

Regardless, a rMBP 2016 is almost certainly coming. Or 2017.

September event for Macs, October event for iPhone?

Meh, I replace my phones every year because I have no fiscal sense and really enjoy new gadgets!

With the Apple payment plan, it's really not even that expensive, either. I just figure the extra $100 or so per year is the cost of renewing the battery.

I always get the "S" versions of the phone. I miss out on the fun of the new design, but then I get an improved version of that new design. That's what I've been doing for years now, but this iPhone 8 thing is going to throw off my usual pattern. -_-

I was always on the "S" cycle as well. Then the iPhone 6 comes out and I decide to sell my 5S because I've always been more interested in the new design rather than the speed bumps. Well here I am keeping my 6 for two years and will have to keep it for a 3rd if I want to maintain! I shoulda stuck on the "S" cycle. :)
