Hey guys, remind me again why we are not expecting Kaby Lake for the update?

Intel seems to be on track to deliver Kaby Lake sooner than planned, according to Digitimes.

And PC's like this are beginning to surface with Kaby Lake:

I realize that this is using the U-model CPU, but recently leaked roadmaps show H-series going into production next month:

There's also hints like the 10gbp/s interface spotted in Sierra, something which is not possible with Skylake without a dedicated controller, but which is built-in to Kaby Lake.

At this point it could hardly make any sense to release Skylake MBP's in November?

October release with Skylake would make the holiday sales a lot better. The new iPhone won't sell too well most likely. I think they want to release something that will. Apple has so much money that they could easily afford to wait until January or February but I don't think it would make much sense. Their target market don't anything about Kaby Lake, all they care about is the new design and better hardware.

I dont think Kaby Lake is an option. Even if Intel suddently got their crap together (compared to the Skylake fiasko) and is able to deliver chips well ahead of the roadmap. Apple has been planning on using these Skylake chips for almost 1 year and they will not go back to the drawing board and delay the release for another quarter if not longer.

October, Skylake Laptops, 13 and 15. My money is ready.

So in this chart, I'd assume the processor that we're waiting for is U 2+3e (2 core and GT3e?) version for the 13" rMBP, and the processor for 15" is nowhere to be seen.

I'm not sure what Prod. and RTS exactly means, but if they're production (fabrication) and release-to-seller (or something like that), we should be seeing them no sooner than next spring, no?

There are no Kaby Lake chips for the 15" on this chart at all, and it looks the like the chip for the 13" wouldn't be available until next year.

Lol what?

I find one thing very strange. Apple does not want to make one more fall event, but we won't see rMBP this Wednesday. So.. when then?
Strange, isn't it? There could be three choices left for 2016, assuming if and only if there is certainty a new MBP would come in the coming months:

1) It is unveiled Sept 7, and ships 1-2 months later

2)Want =/ Will . Apple may want to not do separate October events anymore, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they won't. The quote about not wanting to do future October events, I believe, came in a year ago, not even in 2016.

3)A smaller press-release style unveiling, but I do not see this as likely as either of the above, since it is purported to be a large change, reminiscent of 2008 and 2012 MBP updates, instead of interim updates in-between.

I don't know why, but I'm still quite hopeful Sept 7 has an unveiling for us.

As Apple isnt really sticking to the Intel Skylake and Kaby lake rollouts: could this already be the final hint, that apple is developing its own SoC with AMD as Sony and MS already did for their consoles?

I think they will. They have enough products that will be updated to fill a slot, and if the release of Sierra isn't till next month, they can use the even to formally launch the final version of that as-well, to go along with the new hardware.

because computers are basically glorified consoles

While I personally think that Apple's product line is insanely outdated, we must also consider that MR's Buyers Guide is not taking into account the fact that cycles for certain products have stretched or have always longer the 1 year guideline they use to categorize them. Example, the Apple TV (and iPods) have always received updates on an average of once every 2 years, yet they are tagged with a "Neutral" label. There is simply no reason for this. Intel is getting slower and Mac cycles are getting longer and longer. That guide is no longer representative or in line with the new trends. People will be mislead into thinking "hey, i need to wait, the next one will be out soon" when they see that "DON'T BUY" label. What happens then is a frustrated consumer that ends up waiting WAY MORE than expected for something that isn't being launched any time soon. We will definitely see this with the 15" MBP next year. Since there is no sign of a GT4e Kaby Lake, instead they will jump on the Coffee Lake on 2018. Once the new MBPs are unveiled, MR must work swiftly to fix this issue. Each and every one of those products must be "calibrated" with their own respective and "updated" upgrade cycles. Once considered the gold standard, MR's buying guide is no longer accurate, it just serves a day counter, until they fix the aforementioned issues of course.

The problem with this thinking (imho) is that Apple tends to hold the price for the entire product cycle. Other tech companies don't do this, and as a consumer I (and probably a few other people) find this practice unacceptable. I don't want to pay full original MSRP for something that was released 476 days ago. So either, keep the product fresh, drop the price, or I'll hold onto my cash.

It may be coincidence but all Retina MacBook Pro shipping dates have slipped to Thursday in UK. I can order a non-retina Macbook Pro or a Retina MacBook to arrive tomorrow (Wednesday).

This is literally the equivalent of "Safari is snappier" but for this thread. :D:p

So now that it is pretty certain that we won't see any MBP announcements tomorrow , what's the possible date for the October "back to Mac" event?
