Dalrymple already said no new Mac hardware at tomorrow's event, both Gruber and Rene Richie on the latest Talk Show podcast just published basically confirmed there's nothing coming tomorrow for the Mac.

Edit: actually at the very end of the show, Gruber wonders if Apple may surprise us with Mac hardware tomorrow. :) Why? Because they don't have a whole lot else to announce aside from iPhone and Apple Watch, and thus plenty of time to slip in the Mac updates. Rene doesn't rule it out either.

Or they can announce them in the March event along with the new iPad Pro. I can wait. I can wait. I can wait.

They seem certain we're getting new hardware in October. The only question is how they announce it - whether tomorrow, a second event, or by private invitations to journalists to demonstrate the updates and provide review units.

I'll be keeping an eye on Mark Gurman's twitter feed to see if he hears anything that contradicts his previous prediction of no new Mac hardware at tomorrow's event. ;)

All the problem with dGpus is cause AMD sucks, i have a Msi for 3 years now with a Nvidia GPU and more than 1000 hours playing games, overcloked and constants GPU temps over 85 C° and still having no issues.

It may be coincidence but all Retina MacBook Pro shipping dates have slipped to Thursday in UK. I can order a non-retina Macbook Pro or a Retina MacBook to arrive tomorrow (Wednesday).
I think it is demand due to the Back To School offer ending yesterday.
I just received a 15" from them to day via the offer, I'm typing on it now:D
If new Macs are announced tomorrow I will weigh up whether or not to send it back depending on the design and specs of the new models.

So to keep things going, what is the #1 thing you are hoping for in the new MBPs?

For me, I've been waiting for years to be able to drive a 5k external display in retina mode. I'm understanding this may not even be possible with the Skylake models, but I have hope for the rumoured eGPU TB display. So really, TB3 is the key feature.

Does anyone recall what the speculation was from the tech folk prior to the RMB reveal? Seems like I remember that being something of a surprise...
Just trying to nurse a little hope here :..(

Don't! Hope will just create disappointment. And one can't be disappointed in something not happening that never was in the first place :)

we got a leak of the whole display assembly, but not so much afai-remember.
right until announcement i was convinced the rMB and the iPP12.9 were actually only one product, and rumors got it all wrong. they didn't.

Ah yes; I recall some of that now. Were the analysts predicting the rMB to come when it did? I just remember listening to a Verge podcast that expressed some surprise about the announcement.

Are we seriously going to pretend power users constitute a large enough demographic compared to the regular consumer/prosumer market? Do you really think liberal arts college students here really need the computational power of the Macbook Pro over the Macbook? No. Yet almost all, male or female(especially), majoring in English, Education, or Science, all have a freakin' Macbook Pro.

Apple hasn't targeted the traditional Power User for a while, now. Why don't you move on to the thinkpad or dell precision mobile workstation line? Apple is targeting the prosumers at best, the cool, fashionable person who edits and posts content, sit in coffee shops. Is this not oblivious to you or anyone complaining about Apple's target audience..? You do realize the OLED function keys aren't going to be targeted towards Power Users, right? Neither is the butterfly key mechanism. Oh and don't forget about a plethora of different watch bands as well as dedicating the amount of time they did in the last keynote for various..EMOJIS. They're for aesthetics and entertainment-related function..lol.

Triggered.

While I agree with most what you said, I cannot understand your Registry laments. I've been using Windows since the beginning (well, not quite, Windows 2.0 was my first version), but I never encountered a serious problem with the Registry (I know that this was not there in the 16bit versions built on DOS). Even your wording (WindoZe) indicates that you don't exactly like Windows. I don't now what happend in your case, but I can tell you that I also have some trouble with OS X from time to time (Yosemite was a disaster on my iMac 27" mid 2011, and it made me reinstall on my rMBP 15 mid 2012 because it corrupted my Bootcamp partition). Please take have of your hourly income and get a decent Windows notebook. I have absolutely no issues with my ASUS Zenbooks, for instance.
We had network issues over the weekend. I got grumpy... It's Windows when it works, and something else when it doesn't work. I started with Win 2 as well but spent most of my time in DOS apps at the time - I was at University and interning at Boeing in two engineering departments. PCs are a tool to me, that's it.

About my comments regarding the Registry, if it was just one PC or VM it wouldn't be a big deal as I keep at least one clone for each of my PCs handy. I've got 30 PCs and I don't know how many Win VMs to keep track of, and then there's the drafting/engineering techs in my office (so many hissy fits this weekend...) - the most emotionally sensitive people I've ever worked with. I'm better now... :whew:

So to keep things going, what is the #1 thing you are hoping for in the new MBPs?

It's shallow, but in thinking about it, it's the redesigned case I'm most looking forward to. I've had the money to replace my dying rMBP 2012 for about a year, but I really wanted something different from what I had now, aside from future proofing etc.

What I actually need though is a GPU with more than 1GB of VRAM.

Same. I'm looking forward to the new design, whatever it may be. I want something that looks different. I know the 2012 model was a re-design but only barely. The computer has basically looked the same since the late 2000s. I want a true re-design.

And I also do want a dGPU, though the latest rumors seem to be indicating there won't be any dGPUs at all, not even in the 15". I really hope that's not the case.

Well I won't buy the new one as I already bought the 2015 rMBP in february as I needed it for my studies, so this will at least last for several years.
However, I hope that the performance and efficiency of the skylake/kaby lake internal GPU's is good enough to further boost the battery lasting. And of course GTX 10 GPU's.

Mark Gurman had an article up on 9to5 Mac a couple of months before release with a full description of the general size/weight, the new keyboard and the single USB port.

There were even artists impressions which I'm sure I've seen used in Apples own promotional stuff!

The only things that he was really off about was the shipping date, he had it as around WWDC and the name he referred to it as a MacBook Air.
