Looks like Apple always wanted MacBook Pro updates for WWDC, but engineering delays pushed out the first new rev (Skylake) in October of 2016. So, we are falling into routine of Education event in March with entry level iPads, WWDC for MacBook Pro and iPad Pro upgrades following then the fall for iPhone.

This is probably good for me. My travels to the US have now been in the spring and with the next major rev of the MacBook Pro not coming until 2020, I will likely get the last of the generation that precedes it in Spring 2020. By then, it will be well proven and tested before the early adopters get their ARM beta machines or whatever it ends up being, LOL. I just hope Face ID makes it in before the next major rev.

Also, 10.16 will likely be a release can stick with for a long time that still works like todays release.

If Apple is going to release MBP 2018 at WWDC, why we still have not received leaks? Could Apple make us wait for another two more years for MBP with LEG-based CPU?

Were there ever a lot of leaks in the past for pure spec updates? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but from what I remember, we mostly got leaks when the respective next model actually received a redesign or more noticeable new hardware features... y'know, when there were some actual new hardware that could get leaked. Not saying that it never happens, but I wouldn't be worried about a WWDC release just because of the absence of leaks about it.

Yep when there’s nothing noticeably new to leak it won’t. In this case as it is overwhelmingly likely to be just a spec upgrade with maybe a few hidden changes don’t expect to see anything.

hajime: The general consensus is that the chassis will stay the same, making new MBPs indistinguishable from current MBPs. Also Apple has been mad about leaks recently, so they maybe working really hard on keeping the news secret, if we are wrong and the new MBPs will be different than expected.

Tech media only care about iPhone/iPad/Watch rumours because nerds+mass market clicks for those. Only hardcore techies care about rumours for new CPUs. They don't really care about Macs in the same way unless there are overt changes like "new design", or major news that shifts stock values, or all other press are reporting on and they don't want to be left behind, like "Switching from Intel".

We need some spy working in the factories to provide us insider information! If there will be anything to be released in the first week of June, they should have started production. How do they keep the mouth of so many factory workers shut?

Would someone pay life-time wage to that poor person who wouldn't keep mouth shut? :)

Perhaps we send somebody to seduce them.

Its almost guaranteed a new MBP is coming out in June.
However will look exactly the same as the 2017 model.
Nothing to get excited about really - it's just a tool.

I doubt anyone is excited about it enough in the factory either to notice it is a new machine over the identical looking one of the last 2 years.

Windows is really only not considered because of their OS. I don’t mind any other computer, but I can’t stand the windows OS at all.
This is a really interesting thread, with some good points for consideration. Irrespective of the tech inside the 2018 machines I think I need to get one. My late 2013 rMBP, while it has served me well, is sluggish now its powering a 27" 4K monitor and running multiple applications.

On a lighter note, I've also come to realise that there seem to be three types of readers/commentators here (no offence intended). There are the tech-heads who know too much about technology and future technology to ever be satisfied with what is released with today's technology in mind. It's always going to be better next year, always. There are those who left Apple to go to Windows based machines and for for some reason continue to post in a thread for people waiting to purchase an Apple machine. And then there are the regular users, like me, who just want a new bloody laptop but are too afraid to buy one because we read threads like this.

:D

Hahahahahaha yes me exactly too. :D the more I read the more I’m afraid to buy haha. Before I knew the existence of this forum I just went to Apple and bought the computer I needed, without AppleCare too. Now I’m super worried haha.

I have also a rMBP late 13, with 16gb ram.
I think it still goes well in terms of performance, though I have not seen the newer models in action.
I am not a 'light' user, but not the very heavy duty too.
Photoshop, dozens of tabs in many browsers simultaneously, ms office with multiple windows open, and many more, but mbp seems to cope rather well.

Depending on what is already said here, as I asked about performance comparison some pages before, I guess that the new mbp 2018 will be even 70% faster in overall performance than our current late '13 mbps.

What are you usually doing with your rmbp late '13, and how do you estimate its performance in general and also in comparison with newer models?

There's no point going out and buying a dual core machine 3 months before the new one is announced/comes out.. Plus, a Dual Core processor for a 2k machine like the 13 TB is simply dumb..

I have to wait for the new version so I can be futureproofed for at least 4 years, ain't seeing this dual core mdoels doing it so

Usually Photoshop, SketchApp and Safari. Nothing more than that usually, unless I have a game running, too. I only have 8GB RAM though. I thought I had maxed out mine, but for some reason I seem to have not done the memory.

I’m running a rmbp late 13, it’s not far from the base model. With a 2.4ghz i5, 8GB ram and a 256GB ssd

This last year it’s started to feel sluggish and for the first time I’m having to limit what applications i run in parallel.

I’m a developer and typically have an IDE open, several node / java / python services running some which are constantly rebuilding, photoshop, a whole load of chrome browsers, postman, slack, a few terminals and iTunes whilst powering a 27inch 1440p monitor.

Recently I’ve found a passion for videography and have a few 4K drones but editing these files is pretty much a non starter.

I’m also a casual league of legends player and play a couple of hours per week

Im looking to upgrade to the hex core i9 15inch, 32GB of ram (if available) with a 512GB ssd. Role on June!

Lol, I'd imagine the bounty on leaking MacBook Pro specs is about 1/100th the bounty of an iPhone Leak. No point in risking your job and livelihood for pennies.

The vast majority of real humans in the world commute primarily on phones and tablets and a little bit on the ****** WinTel machines at their job because they have to. Some people justify and purchase the cheapest MacBook Air they can if they have a kid in the house or if they themselves are in college.

The actual market size as it relates to the computing market in total (iPhone, iPad, Android, ChromeBook, Windows, Mac) of $3,000 laptops and $5,000 desktops is so small, no one really gives a crap about our needs. We're lucky Apple is still building things for us.

I will be a 'pro' customer for at least another 30 years. I don't personally know anyone that has a pro machine or workstation much-less that owns an actual computer that gets any use.

And on that note, my own girlfriend who has a MacBook uses it once a month at most. She painstakingly does shopping and writes long emails on an iPhone 7 Plus. I watch her hold her finger down to copy, double click the home button to switch applications and manage dozens of Safari tabs. She could accomplish that task in at least half of the time just by reaching over and grabbing her laptop I keep fully charged for her but she doesn't. That's computing now. Doing less with less.

The fact that every 2 years, I spend $2800 on a MacBook pro and a year later, $3000 on an iMac (so one gap year every three years I don't make a purchase) alongside the latest iPhone, iPad and other accompanying tech (like a NAS) puts me in the 1% of spending on technology if you remove actual professionals that their entire salary is based on computer performance. Every day Apple still sells a 'pro' machine on their site is a day I say thanks to the Apple Gods.

With that, I actually did not buy a new MacBook Pro on the 3rd year of ownership like I usually do. I'm actually in my 4th year because Benchmarks of my Top of the line MacBook pro against the one on sale today is only like an 8% gain in performance if you discount the significantly faster I/O. It already takes a day and a half to transcode 4K video on this thing so I just use my iMac instead for CPU intensive tasks. I hope the next revision is a huge upgrade over my 2.6Ghz Haswell Core i7 machine.

I still doubt we'll get any leaks until a day or two before WWDC.

[doublepost=1523973575][/doublepost]Shops around Europe are already doing tons of discounts on the curremt Macbook Pro line... These usually start 3-4 months before a new model starts shipping.

Well the 2017 is work of art. It just needs a little fine tuning of the keyboard and that track pad is pretty ridiculous (nice, but a touch too big.) Add 6 core option and this thing is gonna be a true workhorse. It would be nice to have 32 gig option.

Same for the 13" all it needs is 4 Cores and put 16GB of RAM as option and there you go, a powerhouse.

But honestly I think Apple should raise the minimum SSD space from 120GB to 256GB
