This is beyond pathetic. The world has gone completely mad. Lining up for a phone is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen and anyone who feels the need for this exercise in stupidity is really short of a life.

People do this for all kinds of stuff. Game consoles, special edition clothes, concert tickets, etc.

The Apple Store App is usually flawless. Been using it for preorders for years. Something weird happened with the X. I think it may have been overwhelmed by all the IUP customers.
I agree it usually is, I myself have used it. What went wrong is that every Tech news outlet including app told everyone to use the Apple Store app, which pretty much lagged it as it if it was the website.

I had the App, Verizon and Apple site ready to go. Verizon site won cause they opened up almost 10mins early. I got my order in around 2:55am with zero hiccups.

So I guess the people that waited up ALL NIGHT to preorder their phones are also pathetic???
Please let me understand your logic on this subject.

You just clearly don't understand the culture surrounding Apple and its products. I have waited in line for the first few generations years ago, and I think this is the first iPhone I will again go wait in line for.

Its not because I'm some crazy materialistic person that can't live without the iPhone X on day one. As you can see from my account age, I've been an Apple fan since before most of you even knew what Apple was and way before it was the "cool" thing. This is because most of us being Apple fans back then understood why they were doing and that they would change the world eventually which they did.

I mostly go and wait in line because of the experience of it all. Its meeting the cool like minded people waiting in line and getting a new apple product on day one is just a perk of it all.

Its not because I'm "short of a life" as you put it, its the exact opposite. Im living the full experience buying and owning an Apple product is about, and in these days of Apple mass adaption, standing in line reminds me of the close knit Apple days of decades ago with people who just "get it"

Sorry you don't "get it" bro. Go back to clicking things on a screen and buying for just the sake of buying. Hey at least you have a life right?

First timer planning to wait inline!

A few questions:
1.Anyone knows if a Verizon account is needed on launch date Fri 3rd if buying it UNLOCKED (full payments)?

2.what is the limit per person?

3. Can people actually save spots for a few of there buddies without others getting upset?

Amusingly enough, these tips are mostly applicable to the hard core San Diego Comic Con fans waiting to get into Exhibit H, and other such areas!

While I realize there were a lot of people ordering on the App and the website, from 12:01 until about 12:10, it didn't act like it was overwhelmed. In fact, both the app and the website refreshed very quickly during this period. But, it showed the "we're preparing something.. blah blah blah" notice. I don't think the order process was live for everyone at the same time. This definitely wasn't the same, website or app, as previous pre-orders.

What I do is check the istocknow website a few days later and see when the store have stocks. I’ve never failed to get one within two weeks of launch without the long wait.

I have a preorder for the iPhone upgrade programme but my X won’t arrive at the store until 2nd December so plan on queuing to get hold of one on launch day. Means I’ve already preordered will this cause me any trouble when I try to upgrade instore on the 3rd? Do I need to cancel my preorder now or should I be fine? Thanks to anyone who replies ☺️
I’m not sure if it’s the same for you but I’m in a similar circumstance except I preordered through Verizon and they told me as long as I call them I could get my preorder canceled instantly with no issues! But I’m not sure if it’s the same with the Apple upgrade program? Best of luck though!

I got mine for a Nov. 3rd delivery online this year. But I'm surprised this article doesn't mention the blackmarket mafia (as I call them) that ruins what used to be a fun wait. They come by the van-load, wait overnight, add more in line in front of you, harassed me for an extra ticket and return multiple times over the next few days.

I know because it happened to me. I returned to the Apple store to remedy something and saw the same little lady who bugged me to get an extra ticket that Apple employees passed out at the time. That was the last I ever waited in line.

Apple Store Pasadena 4:30am, 11/3/17, maybe 50-75 people in line here.

I’m a little confused. I just got to the Verizon store only 1.5 hours before it opens and there’s not a single person here...

Any updates from Pasadena? I work right by it and was considering trying my luck
Sorry, I didn’t get the notification for your reply. I was able to get an AT&T 256gb silver. I received a reservation time at about 9:15am to purchase at 12:30pm. By 8:15am, they were out of all phones except At&t which T-Mobile customers could also purchase. They advised they would receive new shipment each day, so if you didn’t get one today, you can go early tomorrow. If you are AT&T or T-mobile you will have the best luck as the CDMA phones have less stock apparently, thank you.
