See, if I could I WOULDN’T stand in line, but Verizon’s system got swamped during pre-orders for me, system glitched, told me my account pin was WRONG, then blocked me out, not once, but twice at one HOUR intervals. So I DID try to pre-order, I DID have a launch day delivery set, but the system failed me. SOOOOOOO, I get to wait in line. Not a huge deal to me seeing as 1.) The store will have its GRAND OPENING that day, AND 2.) I work RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, so I roll out of work Thursday, set up shop, roll in as first in line at 8 am, then stroll right on over to work at 9am. Oooo and even time for breakfast! :)

"...or get a life."
I could never lower myself to this waiting in line for 12-24 hours+ nonsense. Happy to wait until 27th Nov-4th Dec for my iPhone X delivery.

Surprised that people still getting into lines overnight to buy anything, much less an iPhone. With online sales, I never understood the waste of time doing it. Just wait a bit longer for online. Way better.

"...or get a life."

I have to admit, I never waited in line for an iPhone, nor I intend to.
But seriously. what is this to you? Billions of people in this planed consume their time in a ways that billions others don't and do things others don't. Why do they have to play by your book? Does it really feel good to go on a forum board judge other people for things that they do with their time? Who gives a flying monkey anyway, as long as what they do makes them happy? You must have such an exciting life, and you being in a forum board judging other people on what they do with their time is a clear indication of that.

Absolutely pathetic!

I’m in NYC, the 5th ave store is closed and they are next door in the old FAO store. It’s a crappy set up, I went a few weeks ago for something. I’m gonna wait for mine to come between Nov 17-24, I can’t do lines anymore. However if I was going to, I’d go into the boroughs like Staten Island or Queens center mall.

I agree with these tips. Years ago, I camped out for a PlayStation and all night the guys were going through eBay to see how much money they will make. Best Buy allowed us 45 minutes to leave the line and use the bathroom at the Walgreens in the same strip center. 5 minutes before opening, a guy’s gf came to the store and when the manager came out to start the buying process, his friends said I left all night and just returned. It was 5 on 1 and the manager believed them and gave my PlayStation to the guy’s gf. At least there were so many scalpers that eBay prices bombed on release day. People were barely making $5 it that.

Man... that is a sad story. People being so petty, doesn't bode well for humanity. (Just to be clear, I am not being sarcastic or anything)

Apple will be hoping for plenty of these losers to show up at their stores - nice bit of free publicity for them.

I expect once that has died down, they'll bring forward the pre-order dates for everyone...

I had opened the App Store App on both iPhone and iPad, as well as the Apple Store on my Mac.

I was able to order on the iPhone with delivery 11/3 after one minute. On the Mac, the page showed up 11 minutes later, when delivery was already 2/3 weeks. Fastest preorder method was definitely the App Store App... you’ve preordered it wrong ;)

Looks like you was one of the lucky ones because via the app I was presented with this pop up right at the end of the reservation process and it wouldn’t let me go any further

I don’t think it’s really only about getting the phone, although that’s certainly for goal for some people. Some people simply want to feel the excitement or anticipation. It’s like waiting for months for a major OS upgrade. Not sure how it is these days, but these lines was also an opportunity to meet fellow techies in the pre-iPhone 5 days. Not my cup of tea, but I can see why people do it.

Are you new to earth?
Relatively.

It's not really that 'unbelievable'. It's just you don't see the appeal in doing it. But for those who do this, obviously have a passion for the majority and there is nothing wrong with that.
Those are brats who as adults live in their Mama’s house and have everything provided to them by their parents. So, instead of going to work, these “tech enthusiasts” can spend days camping out by an Apple store and their Mama will pay over a grand for their new tech wonder. Spoiled brats that need to learn the real life.

Now is perhaps the time to maybe reconsider your life goals and it's priorities at this point.

"Is THIS what it's come to?" "Queuing up for 'that phone Apple brought out with the notch thing?" "Have I nothing else to do with my time? Work? Partners? Siblings? Responsibilities?"

Ha ha. Only joking. Don't be daft. When did that matter?

"'Ere mate. 'old me Starbucks wil ya? 'Got to go for a Jimmy Riddle. Don't let anyone jump in, yeah? 'Allo John? Yeah. Work? Nah. Got the day off. In that line for the iPhone 10. The X yeah? Yeah. No it's that new one? With the notch at the top. Narrow silver bezel and screens a bit bigger an' all. No? Anyway I'm in the queue for it. Oh. Sorry. What's that? You've got to go and do stuff. Ok. Right well I'll message you when I've got it, yeah? Hello? Oh. He must've got cut off .. well, you just wait 'til my real mates see what I wasted ... I mean what I waited for. They'll be so .... ah cheers for holding me place , mate. 'Just been talking to my mate on the phone. He sounds SO jealous of what we're doing here. Yours too? Great innit! I've bin lookin' at screen savers and wallpapers. There's a cool black one that completely hides the notch and if you go for a black bezel it looks full bezelless. Yeah. Like a S8 look. Wow. Eh? Only ten hours now. It was ten days at one point. Who's the sad and lonely gits now, eh?"

("That was a rhetorical question, readers"-MR)

Camping out is actually a lot of fun. I did it for many of my products.

Xbox 360 Premium - launch day

PlayStation 3- launch day

Nintendo Wii- launch day

A bunch of my Air Jordans ( from when I was a young and well dressed Lad ) which I still own by the way

iPhone 4- launch day

NES Classic - Launch Day

And recently, the Super NES Classic.

Everything else I own has been pre ordered.

Pre ordering makes life a heck of a lot easier. But camping out overnight is a real delight where I’m from ( New England ) people out here all know that’s up. We all have a lot of fun. Everyone buys eachother food, and has eachothers backs.

The most memorable for me was the Xbox 360 back in 2005. Dude. It was INSANE. There was only 47 instock and over 250 people showed up !. Fights broke out, police came and arrested a bunch of people. They told everyone to go home but thankfully the manager can out and handed out vouchers to the first 47. I was number 8 in-line ( and I was also 16 years old ) they only had 12 of the Premium edition Xbox 360 so I got lucky. Man what a feeling when they walked us in and I purchased it. I had to practically run out of the store because all of those people who missed out where waiting patiently for a sucker.

My rule of thumb with camping out is be #1-10 by 10:00PM- night before and you’ll be fine. The first 10 are always guaranteed what ever it is that is being sold. Anything after that is no one’s guess.

Keep your selfs safe guys.

Happy camping !

That’s true, I️ heard there was a delay. That sucks, hopefully your ship date gets bumped up sooner!

Yep UK store was late and by the time you even clicked add it was at 2-3 weeks. Disappointed but it's only a phone I will survive.

I'm more than happy to wait until early 2018 to get one. And it'll give me a chance to go to a store, see the colors in person and play with the device first.

I love that that covered chair exists. I want one.

As for camping for a product being "sad" or a waste of time etc - having 'camped' the iPhone 4 (just really sat in a shopping centre at like 3am) just to tick the "camp for an electronic product launch like a massive nerd" off my bucket list, it was actually quite fun. It was a good social opportunity to meet and chat with fellow nerds in the line, and a great atmosphere.

Don't think I'd do it again any time soon, as it's still a long time to sit around, but don't be too quick to knock what you haven't tried :)

Let’s hope these tips are better than the ones suggesting the fastest online pre-order method is the Apple Store App. Cause for dang sure the only reason I have to wait in the freaking line at the store on Friday is because of the ridiculous app debacle by Apple.

Surely there is a problem at Apple when VERIZON WIRELESS CAN HANDLE PRE-ORDERS better than Apple can themselves.

Sheeeeesh.
You got that right. I learned my lesson with Apple last year when I tried to get the 7+ Jet Black. Apple was a mess so I went to Verizon and since it was 30 minutes in I was waiting 4 weeks. This year I went right to Verizon and in 4 minutes had 2 iPhone X 256 in silver. And they will be here on Friday.

I was actually wondering how this would work for Queens Center Mall. It closes at a certain time, so people who want to wait the night before would have to wait outside at one of the many entrances. Then once they open people would have to run to the Apple Store to be one of the first?

I live in Naperville, IL but kind of want to make an event and go up to Milwaukee for the day. Does anyone from there have any idea on typical leghth of lines at a local Apple Store Mayfair?
Any reason not to go to Main Place? I used to work there, several friends make it sound like they are expecting decent stock.

Will it be possible to buy the t-mobile version without contract at full price?

Same would be said for any Apple store in a mall. It may be a mad dash for the apple store when they open. I've been to Queens center for a release, but was always in the pre-order box just showing up to pick up my phone with a reservation. Not to sure how they would handle people there just to buy?
