great, since i'm a tourist in nyc right now

anyone have recommendation what store should i camp?
SoHo, Grand Central Terminal will have the biggest supply of iPhone X's. 5th ave may have a big supply, but it's the most famous store so you may be on a large queue. Won't surprise me if NYPD limits the queue. SoHo is probably your best bet in terms of supply and space, but the other smaller Apple stores may not be a bad idea either if you're camping.

I don’t know about following theses iPhone X tips. The last tip Use the Apple Store app didn’t work so well for most people

In a about a week or two this phone is going to seem just as mundane as any other iphone. Think about it. Not worth the effort. (and god forbid there is some sort of "x"gate with the first batch of X's)

You got that right. I learned my lesson with Apple last year when I tried to get the 7+ Jet Black. Apple was a mess so I went to Verizon and since it was 30 minutes in I was waiting 4 weeks. This year I went right to Verizon and in 4 minutes had 2 iPhone X 256 in silver. And they will be here on Friday.
Wow, that tells you that demand for the X just didn't there like in previous years.

I could never lower myself to this waiting in line for 12-24 hours+ nonsense. Happy to wait until 27th Nov-4th Dec for my iPhone X delivery.

I totally agree.

Plus, this behavior shows off the ugly side of who we are as Americans. We took consumerism to a new low. I am tempted to visit a store just to walk the line and ask folks standing there to commit to one hour of working the soup kitchen this holiday seasons.

You know, since they have hours and hours on hand to stand in line.

A friend who works for AT&T told me that his managers told him that none of the stores will be receiving any phones for the Friday launch.

Damn i hate this forum lmao... how you guys gonna hate on what people wanna do? I woke up at 2:50am to preorder and my dumb ass fell asleep while waiting for the store to update.. so now im pushed into that mid December ship group.. big no no. I've had every iPhone on launch day since the iPhone 4. I actually camped out for the iPhone 4 with my Dad and we both got the phone. It was actually fun.. met a lot of people who love apple. People who share the same passion are fun to be around... So yes this Friday i'll be camping out (alone unfortunately.. hoping to meet a few people who are friendly in case i need to grab a drink or use a bathroom while waiting) I camped out for a few hours when the 5S came out and ended up on the news lol.. this stuff is just fun to me. My owner at my job is all about apple too.. he personally told me "go camp out and grab that thing early.. im going to do it around my house as well"

Its just a fun experience.. I'll have a chair to sit in, my iPad using my iPhone's hot spot, bring my 26000mAh battery pack and just hangout haha. Too bad i already binge watched stranger things 2 or that'd be perfect.. I'll probably just bring my DS and switch back and forth from watching tv shows.

Anyone in the willow grove, PA area camping out?

I can see doing it just for fun. Like a bucket list thing, you know? Otherwise, I really couldn't imagine being a such a consumerist that I'd wait 24 hours in line for a product that I could simply order online despite a few-week wait. So I agree with you. If I WERE going to wait outside the store, I would have done it years ago -- the culture was so much different during the early iPhone days in my opinion. Today, not a chance I'd camp out.

edit --
You know, I could see camping out overnight. But certainly not longer than that. Like days before? No.

The Apple Store App is usually flawless. Been using it for preorders for years. Something weird happened with the X. I think it may have been overwhelmed by all the IUP customers.

Damn, must be nice to not have a correlation between time and money lol

I honestly wished i had that flexibility to just do something like this - but i love and need money
And the demands of my job are too high to throw hours like that away -

"just to tick the "camp for an electronic product launch like a massive nerd" off my bucket list"

Umm...okay; I'm nodding my head. Like I went to see Ringo & his All-star Band the other night; just something you have to do.

Having read several iPhone X reviews so far, it seems like Face ID is not that flawless, and at times can be a bit awkward.
I preordered it already.

I am thinking now, after I get the iPhoneX, if I do not like the experience with it...could I not return it for full refund? what is the return timeline? I could get the iPhone 8 instead then, with TouchID and all.

Apple has a pretty generous 14 day return policy, no questions asked, as long as you don't damage the device. I bought an 8+ and I enjoy it quite a bit. I also preordered the X and will have 14 days to decide whether to keep and sell my 8+ or return it.

I think a lot of people have NO CLUE how “Waiting in Line” actually works. You do not have to stand/sit in the same spot the ENTIRE time. There is always an understanding w/ everyone else in line that we ALL have priorities. I’ve camped out a ton of times in the past and maybe only been in the actual line for half of the day. I leave to eat, shower, restroom, and for rest. When I come back I usually relieve the people in front or in back of me. When it’s time to sleep at night, I go to my car! There are people that bring tents and other camping items and to each their own.
Preordered this year w/ Nov 3rd Delivery so no camping this year. I’m older now and have a lot more patience so I don’t see myself camping anymore.
But I respect those that sit out there and I don’t look down on them.
Shoot, I’m a government employee and I Coach HS football. Please entertain me w/ the notion that I do not have a life. ;)
Good Luck to all of those camping!!!

Had I never done this before, I would be the first to say "get a life", did it once (ipad 2, was released on my birthday so went to grab one for that).

Surprisingly fun experience lots of banter in the line, the Apple staff were outstanding, brought coffee round, brough food round, really impressive bit of PR.

I would say do it once for the experience.

Why are people so judgemental. Can you not just let people do with their own time what makes them happy? As if people like you can possibly say they dont ever waste some of their own free time doing something that perhaps could be better spent doing something else. And since we both know that is the case, but you mock others, that makes you a very hypocritical...

People log on here acting all high and mighty like every waking minute they spend is benefiting humanity. Or that those emails they have to go sit in their cubicle and respond to for 8+ hours makes them "too busy" to do such a thing. I wonder did they log into MacRumors, read this thread, and post, all while in the oh so coveted "soup kitchen"?

Bottom line, stop worrying about what people do with their time and focus on yourself. If you preordered, fine. You got lucky, or you're happy with waiting. It. Doesn't. Matter. I have never camped out for one but I could definitely see the interest in it.
Anyway, everyone have a happy launch day!
