Wal-Mart to Carry iPhone 4 at June 24th Launch

CNET reports that Wal-Mart has confirmed that it will carry iPhone 4 in its stores as of its June 24th launch, adding another major outlet to the growing list of retailers that appear poised to be U.S. launch partners for the new device.
Walmart said Friday that it will be one of several retail outlets who will have the iPhone 4 on June 24, its first day of availability anywhere. While Walmart has carried previous versions of the iPhone, this is a first that it will be for sale in its stores on the device's official launch day.

Electronics chain RadioShack announced earlier this week that it will be carrying iPhone 4 at launch, with pre-orders set to begin on June 15th, the same day Apple begins the pre-ordering process. Best Buy has also been claimed to be carrying iPhone 4 as of the 24th, although the company has yet to officially confirm availability and its pre-ordering policies are unknown.

Wal-Mart gained considerable attention in the weeks leading up to Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference and the iPhone 4 introduction by slashing the price of the 16 GB iPhone 3GS in half to $97 with a two-year contract. With iPhone 4, however, Wal-Mart is expected to only slightly undercut Apple's own pricing by offering the 16 GB and 32 GB versions at $197 and $297 respectively. The company did not carry the low-end 8 GB iPhone 3G during the previous product cycle, and so it is unclear if it will be offering the 8 GB iPhone 3GS during this cycle.

Wal-Mart has also been reported to be expecting to carry the iPad beginning later this year.

I'm really glad Apple is spreading out the stores that carry its product on launch and that Walmart has been setting its own prices.

Competition win.
 
walmart, BB, the shack.... all of these places will have limited supply. Best bet will be ordering online or going to an att or apple store
 
I don't think Apple should sell product at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart mostly sells products made by developing-nation laborers working under near-slave conditions for pitiful wages. Apple should not associate with companies that engage in such inhumane practices.

Since most Walmarts are 24 hours, could we go in and get one at midnight? Or will they be brought out at 7am?

Gotta love the Walmarts! Lets all camp out next to the xBox, PS3 and Wii displays and get our game on. Way better than waiting outside the Apple Store! Lol.
 
Wallmart and food stamps

The state of Washington (USA) has to pay out millions of dollars a year for Wallmart employees that don't make enough and need food stamp assistance. Once this stops I will THINK about buying things from them. Until then, no way. Pay better, livable wages first.
 
Yes...but WHEN on the 24th?

Of COURSE, I have to be flying to San Francisco early in the morning on the 24th. Does anyone know of a way to get one earlier on that day?

I know sometimes Apple products have a history of being delivered earlier than they say they will. Has the iPhone had a history of being delivered a day early or something like that?

Apple is not going to allow another Retailer to sell their product before they do. Apple will say when everyone can start selling them.

I am guessing 7am for all Retailers.

This is a huge launch though. This is 4 Retailers now having iPhone 4 at launch. I wonder how much Inventory Apple has for launch altogther.

On a side note...who would go to Wal-Mart to buy their iPhone 4 anyways? I am expecting Apple, AT&T and Radio Shack to dominate over Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

For the Evo alone Radio Shack had over 67,000 Pre-Orders. Sprint didn't even expect that much. Their activation systems crashed that day.
 
Great news about the possible iPad sales at walmart. 95% of America will then have easy access to it.
 
That is too funny and we have similar people here at my local Wal-Mart. Anyone that knows anything about Technology will not buy from Wal-Mart. Someone that is wanting to save a few pennies will buy from them.

I don't even grocery shop at Wal-Mart. Screw them and their evil company.

The state of Washington also has one of the highest minimum wages in the country. 0_o

I completely agree. I wouldn't go within 30 miles of these stores on June 24th. Anyone remember the videos of crazy Walmart shoppers rushing the stores during the holidays?

when states make small business owners offer at least the same benefits as wal mart does, then they should attack wal mart. starbucks, target, whole foods and all the other hippie businesses out there all have similar pay and benefits
 
activation

Has anyone seen any articles as to how the iPhone 4 will be activated?
Does it has to be in store?
Can I take it home and "upgrade" my current ATT contract?

I wish someone would know
