Not sure why you spent money on a phone thats at the end of its life cycle.

Haha.

end of its life cycle? I would say the 4 is nearing the end of its life cycle since this is likely the last iOS update it will be able to handle. The 5 is not near that point yet.

Our definitions of life cycle are different I guess. For me, once a new phone is out, the current one is old news.

But you are probably right. The life cycle lasts until the OS stops getting updated.

I agree that it's old news, but product life cycles aren't predicated solely on new technology coming out. each iteration has its own independent life cycle. So far, the 4 is still alive. The 3GS is definitely dead.

I don't really understand why people are calling the fingerprint reader a gimmick. I couldn't disagree more, it's an excellent security feature. People can easily find out your PIN but copying your fingerprint is impossible.

The problem is many of them come crawling back to Apple/iOS after jumping ship.

I don't see how the iPhone 5s is any different from the iPhone 4S for an "S" type upgrade. Some people found Siri utterly useless, just as you do for fingerprint sensor. Nevertheless, a number of us upgrade yearly regardless of features and some of us doing upgrade swaps with existing lines actually make money selling the year-old iPhone unlocked.

Bingo! I tried out the galaxy 4 for five days, came crawling back and got the 5s, and will never switch again. The grass isn't always greener folks. At least apple doesn't introduce a bunch of gimmicks and gestures that rarely work properly. My finger print sensor works great. Most people always come back and there are reasons for that. Quality>Quantity.

The grass is greener on the other side because it is fertilized with bull$h!+ ! :D

We were on the original model cycle and never had a "S" version - when the 5 came out and they weren't available in my local Apple store for weeks, I just decided to sit out the 5 and wait for the 5S. I live in a tax-free state and the foreigner merchants come out from everywhere and buy in mass at my local store. I've seen more AMEX Centurion cards than one single person should see that doesn't work retail. Just last week, some guy walked out with at least 8 bags filled with iphones...3-4 days before the 5C/5S launch.

Fortunately for me, some sucker bought my 32GB 4 for $250 on eBay so after the eBay/Paypal fees, I paid about $75 to upgrade to the 5S after 2.5+ years. THAT is the way to do it...these upgrade anytime programs are a rip-off!

Dont worry. You only missed a slightly better camera and a gimmick that saves you 3 seconds of your oh so precious time lol

times 1,000,000 uses = not a gimic. Also, now you can set a complex password and not have to enter that.

Meh, I would like to see what percentages of those "millions" went from the 4S to the 5S. Fingerprint technology isn't really a dealbreaker for those folks. LTE is. I am thinking a much smaller percentage from 5 to 5S people are out there. I think their numbers would be around the same regardless of a fingerprint scanner or not.

----------

Fingerprint reader saves 3 seconds x 50 times per day x 365 days per year = 15 hours per year

I'd like that 15 hours back

Have fun putting in passcodes for 15 hours.

I would like my time back from reading this post. Stop being a homer.

Uses, not users. Just because you don't want it doesn't make it a gimmick.

iphone 5s specs?

All of these iphone 5 users that complain and try to justify the reasons they aren't upgrading is because of a finger print scanner. They are failing to talk about the upgraded A7 64 bit chip and other upgraded internal specs. I guess it's to each their own, but don't sit there and complain saying the only feature it brings to the table is a finger print scanner.

The 5S is worth the upgrade I own the 5 as well and the speed difference is noticeable for the $100 price difference you should have gone with the better and newer tech

How about the A7 chip? Twice as good as the A6 and the fastest processor in any phone right now. Quite an upgrade.

We can all afford a 5S trust me. Get the phone unlocked for $5 and sell it to some sucker on eBay or craigslist for $500. That leaves about $200 difference which is about the upgrade price. Me personally, I have $2500 burning in my pockets and I spent 1k on this new shiny macbook pro, so money isn't an issue. I just don't think it's really a good upgrade.

wow, teen in his parents basement.

Yup so fast that it's barely noticeable except in benchmark tests! In some cases being slower than the iPhone 5!

Is that so? I guess you have not seen the speed comparison videos on Youtube showing the 5s doing everything from opening apps and games to opening and browsing websites noticeably faster than the 5. Do you even own the 5s? Or are you just making things up?

iPhones last 2-3 years. It is fine not to upgrade to the latest iPhone. They are well made devices. Phones should at least run smoothly for the duration of a 2 year contract; better if they last a year or two more.

Honestly after getting iOS 7 on my 4S I'm completely satisfied. I toyed with the idea of getting a 5S but until a water proof case is made for it I'm not all that interested.

OP. Had you not sold your 4S would you just held onto it until a 5S with the specs you wanted was available? The answer to that question will determine if you are really happy with your 5 decision.

I wish the 5C was a 100 - 150 cheaper then it is off contract. I'd pick one up ASAP if so and just wait for a water proof case to be made.

Sales people must love the OP, goes in for the latest phone, they sell him last years model and make him feel he got the best of the deal.

PT Barnum comes to mind....
