Ignorant haters.... far too many on this forum.

I would totally disagree. Of all the Apple forums out there I would say that MacRumors is by far and away the most balanced with comments on both sides. Just go read some of the other forums - they are full of nutters and fanatics espousing their hatred for everything and everyone that is not Apple. I would hate it if this forum ended up the same. Free speech is hard won and easily lost.

Great size for my kids. They have the vision to deal with the smaller screen, but desire something bigger than their touch. With the deep App library of games, this will be a perfect alternative to PSPs and Gameboys, with far more functionality.

I really find it hilarious that there are still people saying this isn't going to happen.

It's just the pathetic fanboys saying it now. The ones who desperately want to believe that Jobs was right about everything. It's hilarious watching them squirm now.

I hope its true, however I don't see it being able to compete with the Kindle HD and Nexus 7. Specs wise it will probably be A5 or possible A6 iphone and without a retina screen (so they can update it later to a retina to get you again).

I just don't see how they will price this competitively. The new iPODS cost more than nexus 7 and Kindle HD's. Apple is going to charge 399 for this thing pricing it out of my Kids holiday range.

I'm waiting for the iPad Mega next Fall.

I suspect they will stick to the annual refresh cycle in March for the main iPad.

I'm also hoping the iPad 4 will have a larger screen. I would be happy if they bumped it up to 10.1" in line with some of the other tablets on the market.

I would also love to see a much larger iPad variant with a screen size about the size of an A4 page. Now that would truly be a laptop replacement.

No way man, this thing will be: "The biggest thing to happen to iPad since iPad" LOL.

You're missing the point. They don't need to match those specs. People will buy this on price and available content. As long as they are within a reasonable margin of the competitors people will buy it to access the vast array of content available on the iTunes Store. Content that's not available on the other devices, like movies and tv shows to download and take with you.

Yes you can buy a cheaper Nexus 7 tablet but have you seen Google Play. It's a pale comparison to iTunes. Even Amazon won't let you download content. What's the point in streaming content to a mobile device? You might as well stream it to your TV instead. It's a mobile device as in your meant to take it with you.

The iTunes Store is the USP for the iPad Mini in the same way it has been for the main iPad.

2 things I must have in this thing. A6 and some sort of retina class display. Display needs to meet or exceed the Fire and Nexus at the very least. If they do that, they will have my money.

iPad mini. That would be a really silly product. In my opinion the current iPad is to small already, and now they are maby coming out with something smaller with less resolution ? Facepalm!

How about they start thinking about the pro marked again, and come out with new imac's and mac pro's ?

Release an 32 inch oled imac with 6core cpu and I will convert from PC to mac again.

Want one for my parents Christmas present, but must be £199.99

You might want to start looking for an alternate gift then. It's not going to be £199.99. £299-£329 is more realistic assuming the entry model is 16GB. Apple isn't going to sell at loss or break even like the other Android tabs. Apple, and also Wall Street, is going to need a 35-40% markup over cost.

Obvious scenario seems to me that Apple will:

1) Discontinue the iPad 2 (old Dock Connector)
2) Intro the mini to take it's place on the price point
3) Revise the "new iPad" to include a Lightning connector in place of the D.C.

Ok I will buy that argument however at what price? Apple loves to charge more and they may just price themselves out. a $299 would have been perfect.. but with the iPODS at $299.99 they will be dead between that and a full iPad.

Why lower resolution? = Cost!

Why no Retina? If this is true there is for sure not a chance I'm going to buy it.
As they say: "Once you go Retina, you never go back".

The display is what the Ipad is all about. I hope these rumors will turn out false since I can't see Apple go back to a lower resolution. What's the reason?

I suppose one reason is that some PEOPLE ARE CHEAP! They want a tablet but aren't willing to pay $500...Apple is going to try to give those people an alternative to a crappy A$$Droid tablet. If they would make the iPad mini with a retina display it would price the device out of that market.

Another, perhaps better reason, is that Apple wants to target a younger audience with the iPad mini. Parents are more likely to buy a $250 tablet for their kids than a $500 one...especially for younger children (7-10 yo) given the likelihood that it's going to take a lot of abuse. I'm sure the mini is going to be a heck of a lot lighter than the retina iPad which is also good for children.

This is also a better option for households with multiple people who want iPads...if you could get 2 Minis for the price of 1 Retina I think that'll be the choice for a lot of households.

iPad, iPad, iPad, iPad, iPad, iPhone, iPhone, iPad, iPad.

Where are the MAC rumours????????????

The computer business is now MUCH less profitable than the phone business for Apple. The Mac was never a big seller, and now Apple has found a couple of niches where it is able to make oversized profits, which has resulted in the company becoming a major league player.

I wouldn't expect Apple to put much of its resources into the computer business anymore. They are much better off making handheld gadgets, where they have seen substantial success, rather than computers, where they never gained much traction.

Well from the story i think wsj is very late on with this apple would not reveal a product right away mini must had been in production couple of months already.

If true, this is getting interesting. Apple has begun production on the iPad mini and Microsoft is to release their Surface tablet later this month. For new tablet customers, it all boils down to price and features. Will Apple retain their dominance with the tablet market or will history repeat itself (windows 95, mac os)? Or will it actually be split? Only time will tell.

I'm not an economist but there is something like market 'demand'... and I think (at least I hope) that there is a pretty big community of users waiting for an updated iMac. I wait myself mainly for USB3 and I hope for a better graphics card at the 21inch end and if I could afford changing a computer every 1-2 years, then I definitely would have bought the current one :) ).

If what you described is the Apple's new approach towards their clients and they will not meet the demand with the supply, then bye bye Apple in few years.

Doubt it

Mac sales are a fraction of pc sales.

Unfortunately for u guys they don't care.

The resources are elsewhere .

Imagine if macs sold well. We'd have more models out already.
