Actually, it's the 4th version, physically. iPhone was the 1st; 3G and 3GS were the 2nd; 4 and 4S were the 3rd and 2012's model will be the 4th. Which makes naming the thing very hard indeed.Where is your logic? It is indeed the 6th generation..
Quad-core A6; more ram; probably a bigger SDD (128?!); better cameras front and back; perhaps thunderbolt (hoping) -- I think it's going to be awesome. The the only thing new on the iPad 3 wifi version will be a retina display and an updated processor?

This looks to be the first Apple product that is unlocked and supports both AT&T and Verizon, right?
I hope all these rumors come true for the iPad 3. I wonder, hypothetically, if Tim Cook would hold back some of these features for the iPad 4 compared to Steve Jobs?
dunno why people are so concerned about iPad 3's battery. Even if it is only half as good as iPad 2's , it is still very good .
Then Apple sued them

Holy cow, the number of iPads they will sell this year will be unbelievable.
iOS 6 .......................?????????????
I think is is finally time for Apple to steal from Microsoft.
We need a better file management system.
We need a better OS
We need for the software and OS to totally trump any hardware that might come out in the next 16 - 18 months.
And sadly,.......I feel like there is ZERO chance of that happening
I wouldn't doubt if Apple has a full version of lion 10.7.+ running on an iPad / ARM in their labs. They are just taking their time and rebuilding features. I do think they want to keep iOS separate for the simplicity.
I dunno....the iPad is definitely cool, but I use Quickbooks, iWeb, and Aperture a lot. Especially Quickbooks.
6th generation iPhone, so I'm not sure where people are getting this 5 number from (maybe the blogs don't think clearly)
1. iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4S
6. ( 6 is greater than 5, so how can it be the iPhone "5"? )
iPhone 4GS
then it might be named, like this:
iPhone 4GS in 2012, iPad 4 in 2013
iPhone 5 in 2013, iPad 5 in 2014
iPhone 6 in 2014, iPad 6 in 2015
It is neither the 5th design nor the 5th phone. It's either the 4th design or the 6th phone. But still, I think Apple will probably call it the iPhone 5. They just will. Because they can. Since they're running out of tech to attach the phone numbers to to trick you, they'll just start calling them by A number.
True, and I agree mostly, but in your list how many of the phones were actually named after what generation they were? EXACTLY ONE. The iPhone 4. The iPhone should be iPhone 1 (but I'll give ya that one). The 3G should be called iPhone 2. The 3GS was named after the 3G+Speed. Just happened to be the third iPhone. The iPhone 4 was completely named after it being the 4th model, but the third design. ??? The 4S is the 5th phone, but an update to the third design. But true, they shouldn't call the next one 5 I don't think. It is neither the 5th design nor the 5th phone. It's either the 4th design or the 6th phone. But still, I think Apple will probably call it the iPhone 5. They just will. Because they can. All of ATTs LTE towers have fiber backhaul now. Also, LTE has AMAZING latencies. Ping rates in the 50ms range vs. 100-150ms for HSPA+. It feels like Wifi even when you're just browsing.
