I dunno....the iPad is definitely cool, but I use Quickbooks, iWeb, and Aperture a lot. Especially Quickbooks. On the other hand, the iPad would enable some things that my 13" Macbook Air doesn't handle so well, like reading books. I don't know how well Quickbooks would be if used remotely using something like iSSH. I'd hate to be on the road - or more likely, out and about during the day - and not be able to get the info I need. Then again, it's not mission critical, so nothing that couldn't wait. Argh.

I'm with Apple this round. In a few weeks I will be part of the Apple dream; thoughts of thousands upon thousands of Chinese workers making our gadgets for our pleasure and delight in Foxconn city overlooking suicide nets. Go Apple and screw everyone else; Samsung, HTC, Motorola and especially the people of China. Sue, sue, sue, jump, jump jump is the battle cry for 2012. We will teach them to conform to Apple law. Stock prices should hit $600 in a few months.

All hail Apple!!!

Where is your logic? It is indeed the 6th generation..
Actually, it's the 4th version, physically. iPhone was the 1st; 3G and 3GS were the 2nd; 4 and 4S were the 3rd and 2012's model will be the 4th. Which makes naming the thing very hard indeed.

The the only thing new on the iPad 3 wifi version will be a retina display and an updated processor?

iOS 6 .......................?????????????

I think is is finally time for Apple to steal from Microsoft.

We need a better file management system.

We need a better OS

We need for the software and OS to totally trump any hardware that might come out in the next 16 - 18 months.

And sadly,.......I feel like there is ZERO chance of that happening

Quad-core A6; more ram; probably a bigger SDD (128?!); better cameras front and back; perhaps thunderbolt (hoping) -- I think it's going to be awesome.

This looks to be the first Apple product that is unlocked and supports both AT&T and Verizon, right?

Possibly not. The 3g side would still be limited to one or the other so they would either have to have LTE with no fall back or you would have to pick one or the other. Cause something tells me that they won't have both GSM and CDMA 3g going in this. Although that would be nice.

I hope all these rumors come true for the iPad 3. I wonder, hypothetically, if Tim Cook would hold back some of these features for the iPad 4 compared to Steve Jobs?

Steve held them back because they weren't ready. Tim would likely do the same. Jonny definitely will. Jonny only answers to the Board, thanks to the way that Steve set it up, and all they care about is the money. If Jonny says including something because it sounds cool will just led to tons of returns and negative PR that will bring down the stock price etc, the Board will agree not to do it.

Then Apple sued them

Nope. The California DA charged them with buying stolen property and then dropped it, likely due to the fact that the punishment wouldn't cover the cost of going through with the case.

Apple banned Gawker from all events and won't take their phone calls etc but never actually sued them

dunno why people are so concerned about iPad 3's battery. Even if it is only half as good as iPad 2's , it is still very good .

Because the iPad is being pushed as a business and school device. If something like LTE knocks the battery down to only a couple of hours it ruins the usefulness of the device.

I know that I go a good 6 hours before I can plug in my iPad at work. There's no way around there since I can't plug it in until we are at base camp where the trailers are and that's only at meal breaks. Hells to the no on me carrying around extra battery packs cause the LTE is eating the battery all the time.

I think it's funny no matter what Apple puts in the new iPads people come on the fourm and complain. If you don't think it's worth buying just let the other 25 million people a quarter who will enjoy it lol.

Will they call it iPad 3 if it physically looks the same iPad 2? Are naming conventions driven by changes in form factor?

I wouldn't doubt if Apple has a full version of lion 10.7.+ running on an iPad / ARM in their labs. They are just taking their time and rebuilding features. I do think they want to keep iOS separate for the simplicity.

If the retina display is becoming reality I might jump the tablet bandwagon. But I wish some sort of guest log in will incorporated with an OS update. Would like to leave the iPad in the living room for my other house mates but I'm not keen on them having the opportunity to read through my personal mails and brows my pictures.

Bring on March...

Good luck waiting for OS X coming to iPad. If you want your tablet acting like PC, Windows 8 is your ticket.

iPad was categorized as 3rd product. In between desktops and phones.

There will be still apps that aren't suited to a tablet like serious video editing, serious photo editing, etc. They are and will still be much better on a desktop.

6th generation iPhone, so I'm not sure where people are getting this 5 number from (maybe the blogs don't think clearly)

1. iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4S
6. ( 6 is greater than 5, so how can it be the iPhone "5"? )

True, and I agree mostly, but in your list how many of the phones were actually named after what generation they were? EXACTLY ONE. The iPhone 4. The iPhone should be iPhone 1 (but I'll give ya that one). The 3G should be called iPhone 2. The 3GS was named after the 3G+Speed. Just happened to be the third iPhone. The iPhone 4 was completely named after it being the 4th model, but the third design. ??? The 4S is the 5th phone, but an update to the third design. But true, they shouldn't call the next one 5 I don't think. It is neither the 5th design nor the 5th phone. It's either the 4th design or the 6th phone. But still, I think Apple will probably call it the iPhone 5. They just will. Because they can. Since they're running out of tech to attach the phone numbers to to trick you, they'll just start calling them by A number.

LTE? A total non-event in the UK. Nothing here until probably 2014, maybe even later.

iPhone 4GS

then it might be named, like this:
iPhone 4GS in 2012, iPad 4 in 2013
iPhone 5 in 2013, iPad 5 in 2014
iPhone 6 in 2014, iPad 6 in 2015

It is neither the 5th design nor the 5th phone. It's either the 4th design or the 6th phone. But still, I think Apple will probably call it the iPhone 5. They just will. Because they can. Since they're running out of tech to attach the phone numbers to to trick you, they'll just start calling them by A number.

I think it's a lot easier if the call it iPhone FTW and iPad FTW...

If the start with the iPhone 4GS LTE crap, they might as well start calling it the iPhone Nexus Galaxy S2 4G LTE.

lol LTE availabiltiy in Germany ... well i only want another Wifi one anyway

They could also drop all the stupid suffixes and just call it iPhone. Same with iPad.

My MacBook Air is simply a MacBook Air. It's not the same as the MacBook Air that shipped in orginally, it's a Rev. D and all, but it's still just a MacBook Air.

All of ATTs LTE towers have fiber backhaul now. Also, LTE has AMAZING latencies. Ping rates in the 50ms range vs. 100-150ms for HSPA+. It feels like Wifi even when you're just browsing.

All? You would think that they would announce that fact if they are. The best I can find is a statement that says 'when paired with fiber backhaul' and a release on their website that says the first step is the LTE coverage if copper (Ethernet) is already running to the tower. I sprint has said they are running fiber to all lte towers. Not sure about verizon, I need to go back and read the wording on their statement also.
