Iphone 4s had Siri, Bluetooth 4.0 and 1080p video, and was 16GB out of the box, unlike the 8GB iPhone 4.

I swear the iPhone 4 came in 16GB and 32GB at launch? My iPhone 4 is 16GB. I think the 8GB version was introduced last year as a cheap iPhone option.

Agreed. I don't really understand the people in love with what Samsung and Android offers but come here to complain why Apple isn't more like them. If they are happy with what they have why don't they just switch and be happy. They can pay less for their large screen phones and enjoy the Android features they clearly love so much.

I wonder the same thing. Not happy with what Apple is offering? It's cool, go get the phone you think will make you happy. I'm sure there's other forums that you'll find other like minded owners who wanted the same phone as you. Go there. Don't come here to bitch about the phone you wish the iPhone was.

Wow what a pointless essay you've written. Don't talk about **** you have no knowledge of moron. It's not going to be that easy.

I wasn't active on the forums here when the iPad was being talked about before release but from the comments I've heard from people (it's just a big iPhone! It won't sell! Apple is doomed!) the same negative, uninformed guessing is going on now. Without knowing the details look at the skepticism and paranoia of people. In today's age it's a bit warranted but you have to give Apple the benefit of the doubt here. It's gen 1: it might not be perfect and awesome but at gen 2/3 this thing has HUGE potential for mobile payments and iCloud Keychain integration.

If it has the same design as the iPhone 5 the battery can't be enlarged a lot. So this is not really going to happen.

A previous leak showed testing on a battery with another 5-6% capacity over the current battery. Any little bit, along with CPU tweaks, can lead to more battery life. I'll take every 10 minutes of additional time I can get without having to charge. Somedays, I'm on the run for 12 hours straight, and only get to charge for 5-10 minutes in the car in between places. That helps, but if the phone can eek out just that. much. more. ...I'll take it. :)

Well, I for one am looking forward to this new iteration. I'm in the crowd that would love a slightly larger screen, but I'm not dying for one either and I won't kick off a round of "**** you Apple" posts tomorrow if it doesn't happen. I don't hate the current screen, but a little larger would be nice. Am I lame for still fawning over that tapered design that was supposed to be the iPhone 5 last year? Ha ha.

Fingerprint sensor is a nice move, in my opinion. All the NSA hysteria aside, I think it will be quicker and more convenient than password locking. As others have suggested, I think this will become a lot more than just unlocking your phone. As for the guy who wrote the little 5th grade essay on how easy it will be to break... I just don't get where that comes from. Apple didn't spend $356 Million to purchase AuthenTec, and then countless more money in continued R&D, and implementation just to implement some kitschy little security feature. Give me a beak.

CPU bump? Yay. Better battery life? Super. New color? I'll skip my champagne breakfast this go 'round, but I'm eager as hell to move from the black phone to the white model. I was white before the iPhone 5 and only got the black because I thought the shiny black edges were sexy. Turns out, that black is just painted on the shiny silver edges from the white phone, and they're all scratched to heck on my phone and look like crap now.

And I'll hope for "one more thing" to blow my socks off.

I would beg to differ on that. If, for instance, certain activities with my wife lasted 10% longer, I would say that would be significant and to use your words---worth mentioning.

But 10% of a minute is only 6 seconds, probably not going to make a huge difference! :D ;)

*Sigh*.....To be a Wall Street "Journalist". "Hey guys and gals, we're stating something that everybody already knows!"

Do you use your other fingers to press the home button for the current iPhone? I use my thumb to press that button numerous times every day and don't find it awkward.

With finger scanners they can be temperamental , depending on how you took your initial reading. He is referring that it might not scan first time everytime, therefore it can be an awkward experience. Lets see how apple implements it. Personally every computer that I have had that had a finger scanner , I stopped using the functionality as it was faster to just out in the password.

Can't. Freaking. Wait.

Dual LED Flash.
Fingerprint Sensor.
Faster Processor.
Improved Battery Life.
New Colors.
iOS 7.
Improved Camera.

Let's Go!

If that list has you freakin excited, how do you cope when a new iPhone is released and not just the "s" spec bump ;)

Cue the Android handset makers to start drawing up schematics for fingerprint scanners in exactly 16 hours. . .

In 2011 the Motorola Atrix 4G had a fingerprint scanner.
Now knowing this are you asking yourself if other android handsets will copy Motorola like Apple has done?

I think Apple could also expand this to the Mac. Imagine having an iPhone and a Mac. You get to a page where a Credit Card/login is required so click a button for AirLock (or whatever they decide to call this feature), an alert opens on your iPhone, you scan your fingerprint on the phone and BOOM, your Credit Card info/username and password is entered into the page.

Awesome, now criminals just need to steal your phone and cut off your thumb to get access to your $$$$$. I see I little downside here ;)

This is awesome news if true. I think people are sleeping on what an accurate fingerprint sensor means in a mobile device.

Even more lazy users ;)

Everything you never wanted....

Still hanging onto hope that they will announce enhancements to Siri ;)

And if they announce some more thunderbolt accessories, Which will be totally overpriced, best event ever!!!!!

This is what's going to happen: hundreds of thousands of people will buy the thing and love the new fingerprint sensor. A few of the purchased devices will be faulty or people will require two swipes in stead of one and some people will go rabid about it. This will permeate first to the blogs (Gizmodo etc.) and less techy newspapers and sites will pick it up.

So this will happen

10th September headlines: Apple introduces new iPhone line-up with fingerprint sensors and low-cost iPhone.

20th September headlines: Fingerprint sensor on new iPhone already showing defects.

It has happened before and it will happen this time...

Yeah WSJ... Just a bit late on that... We will have confirmation in less than 10 hours... From Apple.

*Sigh*.....To be a Wall Street "Journalist". "Hey guys and gals, we're stating something that everybody already knows!"

Up until now they were rumours that were not yet confirmed. WSJ is a regular source for confirmations just as Jim Dalrymple is. They are exceptionally well informed and many suspect that Apple actively leaks to the WSJ. In addition, many people read the WSJ that don't visit sites like the one you are on. Many people actually didn't know until the WSJ announced it.

I said something along this line the other day and someone voted me stupidest post of the day award. :\ I think it's a relevant point.

I've been using MacRumors for about two years now, and decide to take the plunge to register myself in today so this will be my very first post. I'm currently still using my iPhone4, and I am pretty interested to see what Apple Media Event has to show ... Even when reading the rumors here I still get excited since I enjoy Apple products, but most importantly technology.

Improved battery life? Not worth mentioning when it's only by 10%

That 10 percentage may save your life one day! :p

How is OtterBox going to handle this? Or are people with cases just not going to use the fingerprint recognition?

The iPhone has to be announced first, and then weeks to months after come the manufacturing of casings.

I saw Gruber (it makes me itch just writing that) say the 5C may start at $500. So can't imagine what this one with the fingerprint reader will be ($700 plus?). I can't see how you market something over $500 with the feature of a fingerprint reader. Not when the Nexus starts at $200. I'm thinking of getting my first smartphone but not at $500, unless my family goes back on contract with Verizon, which is fairly doubtful. I have been hoping that the "big" surprising feature of the iPhone 5C would be the price (as in $300 or less).

I think the price point is on everyone's mind. This is my theory... I believe the 5C with start at $450 for 8 Gb to and $550 for 16 Gb. Then the higher end 5S would respectful keep in the same price rage as currently models, but phase out the lower Gb models. Starting 32 Gb ($750) 64 Gb ($850) and for the ones who want it 128 Gb rumor model for ($950) < That need the extra space until they link to there main hardware for photos or have massive app/iTunes account. I have 32 gigs on my iPhone 4 which had lasted me two years of hard usage, and it's almost full. (I know this depends on the type of persons needs and lifestyle.) That's my input on price ranges... Since I think it's time to make 32 stander on high end models. They would also have to have a good margin to sway people from 5C-5S or whatever they decide to call it.

It's almost here, the only thing that would make me happy is some more Mac hardware rumors come on Late October! :)

Cool new iPhone feature: upload your fingerprint to NSA direct from your iPhone. And it's so simple you don't even have to hit send. It just magically goes to its database. :D

Seriously, I am hoping that there is a way of turning this feature off (at least) in the 'accessibility' settings.

I do not see the advantage, fuss or the need when weighed against the potential security issues. I would not want to be forced to be a Beta tester for a system which may not be used in the way I want it to be.

For example, my fingerprint details held in a database in a foreign country [USA], who's government openly admits to caring more for it's own security than mine.

Seriously? I think these will probably the main reasons i not going to upgrade my current (iphone 4).

Wait for iphone 6 and see how it goes.

Assuming you got the 4 on day one.... you skipped the 4S, 5, now 5s, and you're gonna see how the 6 is?

Seriously, what the F are you waiting for?

He's waiting for Christmas! I just had to... :p Seriously though I was eligible for an upgrade back in March from my provide Verizon Wireless. My iPhone 4 is still in all working condition and recently in this month is showing signs of aging. Appel makes a solid product well in my case. Let us choose the time we decided to forfeit our aging tech..." If it ain't broken why fix it" how about this "if it still works why spend the extra hundred of dollars at the moment" .

The origianl iPhone came in just 16 GB and 32 GB variants. When the 4S was released the 8G iPhone 4 came into existance.

Wrong, original iPhone had 8GB and there were even elusive 4GB versions too. It doesn't even take that long to google... My bro had the 4GB verion

He's waiting for something good to come along, like me.

In the meantime I sold my iPhone 4.

Which is what exactly?

The fingerprint sensor is good news for the NSA. Now they can mass access the fingerprints of billions of people and save them all in a big database.
