The shoes are only five damn aisles down from from the cake!

Yes but some of those Super Walmarts 5 aisles is like 5 NYC blocks and after eating all that cake and carb shock setting in who's got the energy. So give the shoppers some slack. They are doing the best they can.

I'll be comfortably asleep anxiously awaiting my pre-ordered ipad. It's being delivered to my workplace too! Feel bad for the people who end up waiting forever in line and end up not getting one on launch day. :p

My Walmart confirmed they'd have 5 16GB iPads. When I asked what color and model they were, the silence indicated I had overwhelmed the poor electronics department employee, so I hung up...

Thinking of going to Walmart at Midnight, grab a new iPad, then take it over to the Apple store to brag to everybody waiting in line. HAHA -- I have mine already, and it's not even 8am!!

"See? Retina Display..." I can just imagine the gasps, jealousy, and utter salivating of the iCampers.

Or you could just go there and then do the whole smashmynewipad and be the first to put the video on youtube.

Called a Wal-Mart down the road and all the guy would say was it was being released on March 16th. He refused to specify a time after I asked him twice. He also would not confirm if tickets will be handed out. I'm thinking a 12:01am launch is likely, just not sure if I'm willing to risk it as I have to be at work at 7a in the morning and not getting enough sleep just plain sucks.

He must have been confused by the multicolored picture on the box "It's an Apple iPad dammit!! It's El nuevo modelo, ¿Sí?

I sure won't be going to Walmart I'll go to Apple Store don't know about everywhere else but Walmarts here don't let you camp so no organized lines you pretty much have to walk around store and then 12:01 make a mad dash to get one of the few have as probably have less then 4 of each model.. So chance of actually getting one is slim to none...

You know steve is having conniptions in the afterlife. Hes gonna hunt down sam walton and chew his butt.

That, and well, how about chewing Tim Cook's butt as well? Didn't he have to sign off on this?

And I can't see S.J. ever deciding to name this thing "the New iPad." More than anything else that shows Apple is now being driven by its marketing dept (who apparently never learned the lesson of "New Coke").

And I thought it would never pay off to have a friend work in WalMart Electronics.

Preordered mine, but I'll snag a few to eBay.

just talked to my closest walmart, they've got 5 32GB and 6 16GB, all wifi models. Not sure if I'll be able to snag one, but I figure if I get there an hour early I'll have a decent chance. If not, there are like 5 wal-marts in our area (Lexington KY) that are open 24/7. I'd rather snag one there tonight then have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn tomorrow morning.

I called my local 24 hr Walmart and the guy said he didn't have any iPads now but maybe they'd be delivered at 12:01. I'm thinking the employees already socked them away for themselves. He seemed really defensiveliege like I was bothering him

IF it wasn't allowed they wouldn't be doing it because they would never get their hands on an iPad or anything else Apple again.

I suspect that if Apple is not okay with it then they would simply revoke Walmart's launch privileges in the future, but not remove their products entirely from the store. That would be a bad move for Apple because Walmart does have a lot of retail dominance.

I suspect Walmart is just reading the notice that Apple put with the iPad launch and didn't see anything other than "not for sale until the 16th" so that's how they interpret it.

Honestly I don't really care either way, I am looking forward to sleeping in and getting my iPad delivered to me.

I was really excited for the line waiting so I could get it on day one, but with the preorders now I'm even more excited to get it on day one and not have to chase around places they have them left. Can't wait to receive my iPad without moving a muscle (although I'm using the day to replace my gutters so that might be nil)

nek minnit you see all the icampers have pre-occupied Walmart after reading this news

Just called my local one. Said they only have 5 16GB Blacks models... Talk about limited quantities.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want an ipad from walmart. Or anything else for that matter.

THEN they will respect me!

Brilliant comment!

IF it wasn't allowed they wouldn't be doing it because they would never get their hands on an iPad or anything else Apple again.

Two possibilities.

1. Walmart paid Apple quite a bit of money.
2. Walmart will not have any launch products, for quite some time.

I would bet option 2. If Walmart had the right to sell early, they would have been broadcasting it all over the place. They probably waited until the last moment, so Apple would not shut them down.

Fingers crossed this leads to their UK chain, ASDA, starting to sell iPads here in the UK. It would come in handy since I get a lot of corporate retail vouchers via my employer, and ASDA is one of those you can select to receive £300 per quarter for.

That'd go nicely toward an iPad!

My walmart is getting 30...
10 16GB Black
5 16GB White
5 32GB Black
5 64GB Black
5 AT&T 16GB Black

I don't buy electronics from Walmart

And there is a good reason for that. The employees (including managers) have no clue what the hell they are doing. I realize that it is Walmart and they don't pay very much to these people, but it is sometimes so astounding considering the lack of intelligence. Please, don't expect to ask any employee there about details concerning electronics. Take this for example:

I DO buy movies sometimes because of the good price, and when I want to buy a new release, I go at midnight to a town that has a 24 hour walmart about 20 minutes away from work ( I work second shift so why not, I'm an nightowl anyway). I go to the register after they dig the new movie out of the back (they didn't have it on the floor yet like they should at midnight) I take it up to the register and they can't sell it to me because it is "not in the system yet". Apparently the manager didn't clear it like he was supposed to. SERIOUSLY. Things like this should not happen and after this crap happened, I stopped going at midnight to waste my time and told myself I"ll just wait until tomorrow for the new releases.

Also, a Walmart that is actually closer in the town where I work is open from 6am to midnight, NOT 24 HOURS. I'm sorry, but a supercenter should be open 24 hours. Why the HELL you are closed for only 6 hours is so comical to me I can't figure it out. These two points alone are the reason why I only shop there when I have to as a necessary evil (groceries have good prices, etc). The whole thing with Walmart and how they run their stores is just ludircious and awful in my opinion.
