Walmart to Offer New iPad Beginning at 12:01 AM Local Time

I can't speak for every Walmart out there but we have several really knowledgeable associates working in our electronics department. Management at the stores, does sometimes lack the overall intelligence and knowledge they all should have, but as a salaried manager, I have some pretty solid knowledge of the majority of the products offered in electronics. Although sales and customer service are not what I constantly deal with being that I don't work in operations, I take offense that you believe all associates and management are clueless. Either way thanks for your business, because we all know that 99.99% percent of people shop there, electronics or not, and if you don't, enjoy paying more for the same products we offer. Just don't steal or we I will catch you. :D

They just built a big, brand new Walmart close by and they just told me they only got 9... Yikes. But he did confirm a midnight release.
 
ehh limited supply and having over 300 people trying to snag one i'd rather wait 10 more hours with mine being shipped to my home :) i see people trying to sell the ones at walmart instead of keeping em.
 
Early Arrival

So my sister just sent me a message that FedEx just delivered my brother-in-law's iPad today, a day early!

I'll be getting mine tomorrow.

called my local walmart in fremont, asked about the midnight release of iPad 3 and if they do preorder. the woman who answered the phone said they don't do preorder. I asked if they will have it at midnight. she said she doens't know. I asked "can you transfer me to someone who would know?" she said, "i don't even know what it is." i said, "an iPad! iPad 3, the one that your company website said will come out at midnight today." she asked, "i don't know what that is, what department is it?" I said, "electronic." then she transferred me. the electronic department answered after 10 minutes hold and said they never heard of it being released tomorrow, or being released at all. (he didn't even know iPad was coming out.)

then i called a diff walmart, the guy who answered the phone said, "yes." The first person who answered my phone call to a Wal Mart store simply picked up the phone and said "yes?" to me.... can you guys believe that? what kind of retail management is Walmart running? anyway, I was put on hold for 30 minutes and got picked up by eyeglass department, photo department, and eventually someone said no one was in the electronic department, but the store is not 24 hours, so i hung up.

i never shop at walmart and will never shop there for sure.

The only (24 hour) walmart close to you is Union City, and you risk your life going to that store at midnight. ;-)

I just want to see some photos of the people in lines who are posting that they're sitting inside a walmart in a chair right now. LOL. The ones I know who didn't preorder are the ones who had to sell their old iPad before they could come up with the cash and by the time they had the cash the preorder window had pushed out, so they have to stand in line. Maybe it's fitting that Walmart is first to get it... lol

It's not Walmart who restricts the discount, it's Apple. There are plenty of idiot employees who will override the price with a discount. It's not to say it's right, they're just idiots and do it. LOL And seriously, is $25 discount that big of a deal? I guess if someone works at Walmart that's like 3 hours of work tho, haha
 
My local Wally World doing reservations...

Walked into a Walmart and asked "are you selling the ipad 3's at midnight?" Employee said yes and asked for my name to put on a list.....I was number 3. Asked if I had to stay there until 12:01 and he said nope as long as I'm there by 12:00 I'm guaranteed one! Beats having to sit there for hours :)
 
Our stupid Walmart told me they won't be selling them tonight even though they have them. They also said it may be Monday when they put them out.

Anything beats having to sit in a Wal-Mart for hours!
 
I checked all three of my local walmarts, they only have the wifi 16gb and only 4-5ea. I want at least a 32gb, I guess Ill try bestbuy tomorrow but even they are not opening till 10am. No apple store in my town.:(

Yeah, you can. But you better be there mighty early. If you think you can stroll into an Apple store Next Monday at noon and just pick one up, you're crazy...It's not impossible, but highly, highly unlikely.
 
I called the Walmart person here and they told me they didn't see any shipments of the iPad... and that they don't know when it will come in.

Part of me wants to go at midnight anyway... just to see... since I have no life.

Any suggestions?

Okay, yes its true that just because the stores closest to me have given me poor overall service doesn't mean EVERY store out there is the same. However, I did forget to mention that the people I was dealing with at the time of the movie incident I had just didn't seem to care at all. The lady was more focused on getting herself home than helping me out. She wasn't being outright rude or anything, but you can tell when you are not seeing someone give even a "small amount" of effort into their job.

Also, the ipad itself is the same price with Apple as it is with Walmart, so I'm certainly not getting any discount by going to Walmart.:)

And if you mean the security at Walmart is going to catch me (if I was actually a thief), do you mean the one older lady or gentlemen greeter standing at the exits? I doubt they would put much of a fight (major sarcasm here).

Whole point is I've been to a lot of walmarts out there, not just the two near me; and I hate to say it but overall the experience with people answering even the most basic of questions there hasn't really worked out all that well.
 
I am already here at my Walmart waiting. They said nobody else has even called or asked about the iPad. They have 5 16 gb wifi iPads. They gave me a piece of paper with 1 on it for first in line, so it looks like I will be good to go! It looks like Walmart may be less hassle than some places tomorrow.
 
I called my brother who has a preorder but for 2-3 weeks for a white wifi 16gb. Told him about the walmart release..he is now there number 2 in line tonight. Evidently their store in Orlando has 25. 15 of those are 16gb wifi only. There are only 3 folks there right now. Most people have not seemed to find out about the release. I'm glad I get to sleep in and relax for mine to deliver tomorrow :)
 
Guys, i preordered my iPad for store pickup......will i have to battle through the lines? Or can i stroll in at anytime to pick up my preorder?
