i couldnt hear audio in the last 3 you linked to, for some reason, maybe a reboot will fix that as i was having audio problems with Enemy Territory's audio overnight, stupid windows

Thanks for the link to the 2000 Keynote - I've never seen, and it's downloading right now, so I can't wait. I was personally just thrilled to get this year's Macworld in a high, decent looking quality to rewatch cool parts, especially the Tiger preview (really gives you a feel for the os). Also worth trying: hold down fast forward while Steve's talking, especially when he says "boom" and makes that explosion motion with his hands. And all of his "it's just amazing" and "it's terrific" comments sound hilarious too. Hard not to laugh, because he sounds even more excited and energetic about the stuff than he usually does, but you can still make out everything he's saying.

... I think that was perhaps my nerdiest moment of this whole week. And if Sin City AND Tiger weren't both coming out/being announced tomorrow, it might not have been topped. *sigh*

The start of MWNY 1999 was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

It makes we wonder if Steve was mad about the movie

omg! i was watching the mwny '99 keynote and absolutely loved the way he introduced airport! it was just cool. that'd be awesome if they pulled a stunt like that again to introduce wireless firewire or something :p

Can someone get the iMac G4 keynote up and get the keynotes when Gates shows up and the crowd boos and when the iMac G3 launched?

That dock - what were they thinking? I don't so much mean the solid tiles, more the way it worked - there was no cohesion at all to it. The interface he demoed there is one of the least coherent I've ever seen.
I can help you with that one... the system he is demoing is Mac OS X Developer Preview 3. This was the first time that the dock (in any form) had resurfaced at Apple since the first Rhapsody Developer Release. And even then, the dock was a stop gap measure until the Applications Menu was ready (in Rhapsody Developer Release 2).

At this point Apple wasn't sure what to do with the dock. They didn't want it to look like the NeXT dock (or even the Rhapsody dock), but they had to start some where.

The dock under goes a massive change in Developer Preview 4 (which came out later that month actually, my CD is dated May 2000). That dock stays pretty much unchanged until the release of Mac OS X v10.0 (the only noticeable changes I can see is the three dots that signified an active app was changed to a small triangle in the Public Beta).

Otherwise, the dock (very much like the aqua interface itself) was there to show off the new Quartz rendering. Almost all the in your face features of Mac OS X Developer Preview 3 to Mac OS X v.10.1.5 have since been toned down quite a bit.

Things that were not part of the dock in DP3, DP4 or PB include dock menus for application or folders or docklings (which were only part of v10.0-10.1.5). Also the dock orientation was not an option, this was added first by third party developers who notice that the option existed in the system and later by Apple when they saw how popular it was.

One side note, on the Quake III test, that version was done with Carmack working with the Omni Group. It was made available for people with DP4 (and even PB as I recall), but after the release of v10.0 Id Software brought the development back inhouse. I don't recall the final Mac OS X version being ready before v10.0.4, and the Omni Group was asked to remove their version from their site after v10.0 was released.

And for those of you wondering, no... Quartz Composer does not work in any later versions of Mac OS X. And neither do any of the other cool apps included with the Developer Previews like HTMLEdit.

Highlight of the '99 movies above?

Debut, as in, very first look at Halo, by the bloke from Bungie, rendered on a Powermac. Quite surprised nobody else mentioned this little gem. Plus all the b******t about Mac OS being the ultimate gaming platform. Pft.

I've been looking for a topic like this for ages. It would be great to get some of the early keynotes. How did you guys save them? I'd be lying if I spent much time investigating it but an obvious answer never appeared.
I would like to contribute so apple vids, this site is note mine so please download from it responsibly. It doesn't have full keynotes but has some great clips (including the MHz myth!). For some reason it wasn't working lat night but I hope it has been fixed by now:

If you still can't get the clips I've downloaded most of them so I might be able to get them too you.

Here's another working one:

Option Click - XServe Introduction

I've only just found this, and am downloading it myself - I can't vouch as to how interesting/not this may be.

FYI psycho bob, all the ones I downloaded came from this MacNN thread. As I said in my first post though, nearly all of these are now dead - they redirect you to a Björk album page.

Why are many of these things re-directed to bjørk/björk

Well if someone has webspace, I can contribute these:

Media Event 1999 (Launch of iMac Rev B)
MWNY 1999 (Launch of iBook & Airport)
MWNY 2002 (Jaguar, 17" iMac G4, 2G iPods and .mac - the crowd stays deathly silent during the .mac announcement)
MWSF 2000 (as posted in this thread)
Paris 2004 (iMac G5)
Seybold 1999 (OS 9, Powermac G4 and original flat panel Cinema Display)
WWDC 2003 (Panther, iSight and Powermac G5)
WWDC 2004 (Tiger & aluminium displays).

If anyone does have any to swap, get in touch - I'm always looking to fill in the gaps. Would particularly like to get MWSF 01 (OS X and TiBook) and MWNY 00 (Cube).

hey, how big are each of those anyway?

All right! I have hosting for at least one, possibly all. If thequicksilver could kindly PM me with how s/he wants to get me one of the movies, I'll be happy to put it up and we'll see how the bandwidth issue goes.

It's more like the host I have in mind doesn't have any specific bandwidth caps, but might kill the connection if they suddenly started uploading 50 GB/day. If they don't protest the first one, I'll put the rest up... however I still haven't heard anything from thequicksilver so I can't do anything yet. :|
