coming from the SE, my camera will be much better and the screen alone is worth the price of admission. Sure I use a Mac for work, but this is my everyday ipad/computer. I plan on keeping it at least 2 years.

Some people (myself included) just love tech. We have kids and a family, we don't spend our money on drinking, drugs, or going out the club or bar. Our biggest thrill is getting to try out and enjoy all the latest and greatest tech. I work hard, get paid well and have no shame in jumping on the latest flagships at release. I also do not get bored with the device after a few days because I keep it interesting by constantly buying new cases, accessories, etc for it to keep it feeling fresh.

I get what the OP is saying but I also get what everyone else is saying. Anytime you buy something new there is a honeymoon period and then its back to normal. I'm not buying a new X but will probably buy the next version or the one after that. I bought a new 8+ to replace my 6s and my 6s was working fine for the most part. I just wanted a new phone and it had been 2 years. I told myself that I would get the S versions going forward so I'll wait till the next generation. I hope everyone who gets the new X enjoys their phone. If they don't that would suck and give me nothing to look forward to.

Thanks for the wet blanket! (Wait, I thought it was just a phone. You mean we can check Facebook and Instagram, too? Sweet!) :)

In all seriousness, I fully expect the iPhone X to provide me with a lifetime of heretofore unimagined, unbridled joy and fulfillment. ;)

Haha, this post was semi-evil with a hint of envy. But dont we do that with any smartphone we buy so you can say the same for the $50 dollar Blu phone. Hush...... Other tech hardware features count too and not just using an app....so your post was completely unobliged.

Yeah, we do it with everything: new car, house, TV, furniture, professional bass fishing equipment, essential oils, etc. :) Some people just want to rain on everyone’s parade. :D

I edited my post, but repost for people subscribed already:

This came off as unintentionally negative. My main point is to enjoy life and enjoy the whole experience we have been going through, from the rumors, the reveal, the pre-ordering, and now the waiting and anticipation. All of it is part of the "event". It's what makes Apple reveals special. If you just want to walk into a store and buy a phone with no fanfare, go get a Samsung :)...

When I bought a Galaxy S8 on launch day at Tmobile earlier this year they had Samsung reps in store and gave me lots of free SWAG (tshirt, water bottle, etc..), took my pic with my new phone and posted it on Samsungs IG. It was fanfare! :D

I wasn't initially excited about this iPhone and the price didn't help. The main reason I'm getting it is I'm upgrading from the 6s Plus and the battery life sucks, so if I'm going to upgrade I may as well go big or go home. I am excited about tomorrow and can't wait to play around with it, but I can see myself 2 weeks from now just seeing it as a regular phone, nothing special.

People buy this for status symbol. I mean what do you use a Rolex watch for? Functionality wise, it tells time, something that a $20 digital watch can do as well (or even better).
The same reason people buy the latest Galaxy S/Note phones, running apps that a $100-$200 Android phone can as well.
I hear this a lot, about the iPhone being a "Status Symbol", but I don't buy it. I can see designer purses, fancy cars and designer watches as status symbols, but not an iPhone. Especially when everyone and their grandma and buy one.

I can see where, in many cases, the wait is more of a thrill than actually having. In my case, and this is the first time I have been in this situation, I really need a new phone. My screen is cracked, and when I say cracked, I mean next level, super cracked. Not only that, but it is nearly impossible to charge. I have around 10 charging cords, and only one works on my phone, and that is only if I put it in just right, which usually takes about 3-5 minutes to accomplish (Is that an epic set up for a "That's what she said" joke, or what?). That is aside from the fact that OS 11.x runs super slow on the 6 model (at least mine). I can't have my new phone soon enough!

Spock: Stonn, she is yours. After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.
This is exactly the quote I had in mind when I read the OP's first post!

And another reference came to mind reading it. "Always with the negative waves Moriarty"

Know what movie that's from?

Kelly's Heros
Odd Ball aka Donald Sutherland

You nailed it. Buying a new shiny thing is like a drug that wears off just after the return period ends.

Ah, we're all dopamine addicts!!! There's always a new shiny around the corner to get levels back up!!!! :)

Lol this is a joke right ?

Yea there were those like you guys back in 2007 and 2008 that saw how much better the OG iphone was than their crappy RAZRs and BB’s but yet didn’t upgrade for whatever blasé reason...

LIke they say , those that don’t learn from history are dooomed to what ? :)

Iphone 7 with its large chins and huge foreheads... ancient....after next week looking at one will be like looking at an old Nokia N80 and going, “we used to pay $700 for that?!”.

I kind of agree with the sentiment of the OP. This is why I don't update every year.

Coming from an iPhone 6, there will be a big difference in the speed of the phone and quite a few features that are new to me. Even accessing facebook etc will be a slightly (maybe even vastly) improved experience.

Lol you just had to get that Samsung dig in. Tbh when I ordered my S8, I was just as hyped as I am now for my iPhone 10. Hell I'm hyped for next years S9 as well. I'm just an old tech nerd

I agree, the anticipation, the posts, etc are a lot of fun for me. I won't be sad when it arrives but I'm enjoying this while it lasts.

Enjoy the waiting period. By tomorrow night you'll realize you paid over $1000 just to check Facebook and Instagram exactly the same way you're doing today (myself included) ;).

So true. In all aspects of life. the anticipation is almost always better. I will pick up my iPhone X at 10 AM Los Angeles Time tomorrow. Of course I am super excited but after a few hours it's all gone...until next year!
Mind you would I delay a week knowing this? no way!
