People buy this for status symbol. I mean what do you use a Rolex watch for? Functionality wise, it tells time, something that a $20 digital watch can do as well (or even better).
The same reason people buy the latest Galaxy S/Note phones, running apps that a $100-$200 Android phone can as well.

Some people may but geeks like me buy them because we love the latest and greatest technology. I could care less what people think of my phone.

No, not for me. Too big and I prefer iOS. Nice looking phone though.
