All valid points. Unless they put some new tech in the next version that most have to have. :)
I REALLY don't think the next watch will be anything we MUST have... I just can't see Apple doing that. I think too many people will get pissed off with Apple "screwing them".. Unless, the watch cycle is roughly 1.5-2 years. But if it's on a yearly cycle. Idk

Wow, those are good photos for demonstrating how much the look changes depending on the band. Your SS link band really dresses it up. I wish I could afford one at this time. Though I do hope to get a pink modern buckle eventually that will make my watch dressy in a feminine style.

My wanting to dress the watch up in feminine leather bands is the reason I went with the SS. But day to day, I wear different colored sport bands and I do think overall I would have been more comfortable with the lighter weight of the Sport watch and it would have matched my largely casual lifestyle. I think I would have found reasons to be happy with my choice no matter which one I'd gotten.
My wife will be getting the pink modern buckle as soon as it's available from Apple again. Most people who get the Sport model are happy with there purchase, and that's good. That's the way it should be.

All my watches that I have through out the years, are SS with sapphire crystal. I tried the sport on at the Apple Store on launch day. And it's just not for me, just didn't look and feel like a real watch to me. So when I got home I ordered a 38mm SS for the wife, and 42mm SS for my self. Here's a another photo the wife and I in sport mode with the SS.

Built in gps will be enough for me to jump into gen 2. surely people wouldn't be surprised / upset if there's a new watch in a years time? They could lessen the blow by selling watches without straps for a cheaper cost and allow people to reuse the generation 1 straps.

Not sure why since I absolutely loved the look of the Sport when I tried it on in an Apple Store but the look has grown off of me in just a day of owning it. Wasn't a big fan of the stainless steel initially but I'm not sure the Sport feels as much like a premium watch as I had hoped. To be blunt I feel like Apple could've done better with the designs of both but I'll likely end up buying the Watch version of the first redesign. Am I the only Sport owner that has fallen a bit out of love with the design?

I had a sport for a couple of weeks before selling it to get the SS w Classic Buckle. I wanted the better sapphire glass and the better looks of the stainless steel. Well worth the trouble.

There won't be a built in GPS on the next watch.. I will put my savings on it.. No way Apple will jump that far and just throw in a GPS on a watch they are barely letting out into the wild, and its been released. Next gen IMO will be a modest spec bump and I doubt Apple will sell just the faces with no straps. Their excuse will be, "you need a new strap every year"...

Me too. It really is the thing that is stopping it being a proper running watch (and any decent running apps that display the information I want and produce .tcx files). I assume the apps will appear in due course (strava is almost there). A compromise would be a small external gps unit (i really am not going to carry my iphone 6plus running, and my watch doesn't work with the iphone 4 I do take running).

Oh that's sweet! So far the only picture I have of myself in the pink sport band has a huge tarantula on my hand creeping up on my Apple watch!  The tarantula was so freaked out by his reflection in my watch he reared up and his handler thought it might bite me! So, more to anyone who wants to handle tarantulas, Sport is the way to go!

I just got a pink sport and a blue sport band last weekend and a white sport band today. I almost got the green, but the two stores near me had a lot of green bands but the sales clerk had to dig a white one out of the back room for me after I made an inquiry and it was the only one. So I'll get green another time.

The desire has subsided quite a bit since I do like the Sport's design. Stainless steel and sapphire make for a more typical high-end watch but there isn't enough differentiation IMO.
They're both sexy. Some days I look at pics of the stainless steal and say "wow that is really beautiful", but then I look down at my wrist with my Silver Sport and say "and so is this". Maybe next gen I'll get a stainless one for a change, especially if they offer it with a brushed finish instead of the shiny one. I love this frickin watch. Even more so now that I've finally learned to differentiate between a left turn tap and a right turn tap. Only took 3 weeks. :D

If I upgraded to the SS from my SG Sport with BSB, I would upgrade to the SS with the BSB. The only band I would want for the SS other than the BSB is the link bracelet and I am just not willing to put out an extra $450 for the link bracelet.

So, anybody think it is still worth it to upgrade to SS from Space Gray Sport if I plan on using just the black sports band with the SS?

I own both watches and the SG just sits in the box. I do like both, but the SS seems to be the one I go to more often. I'm surprised considering I prefer the look of matte finish. But the SS seems like the better watch. Just IMO.

And do you wear your SS with the Black Sports Band or another band?

I only wear the black sports band. The only one I own. I'd like to get the link bracelet, but the price is setting me back.
And who knows, the link bracelet may be up on Ebay or somewhere else or from a 3rd party at a much reduced price in the future.

Im in the same boat...Thanks for your response, it was helpful. :)

Sure no problem. I'm still trying to figure out how the watch works in my life. I have my moments on if it will work well or just a thing to have because it's an apple product.

I hearya. I almost took mine back after 24 hours because I just didnt see the utility of it....actually sort of disliked it really and missed my old link bracelet mechanical watch, but then I went through all the features in the guide below and then started using it in my life and turns out I really like it. Love the phone calls on it, notifications, and activity app among others. Still hate glances and having to take my watch off at night to charge, but oh well.

I'm in the camp that would only get a sport since it's a first generation product and get a nice third party band for when i'm out and about and if i'm exercising or something use the sport band. The stainless is great but I personally wouldn't spend the extra money the first time around. It's a phenomenal product with a ton of potential but i'd just personally get a third party band and use the money you saved from not getting a SS model to splurging next time around and get the model you want. Or you could sell your sport at a profit and wait until they get some stock in.

wanna sell me the sg

So I originally had the SS watch and used it for a few weeks (at launch). I then said wow this is an expensive watch for sluggish software. Day by day I just couldn't justify the price point anymore. I then sold the watch and ordered a SG sport. That watch is coming on Monday and now I'm back to thinking crap, I'm spending $425 already why not just go back to the watch that comes with the sapphire crystal? I like the matte look of the SG, but was really a fan of the SS also.

I already went and bought a blue and white sport band to go with the SG sport. I am now really considering switching back to the SS watch. Plan on test driving the SG sport for a few weeks and possibly exchanging for a SS when available in store.

Return the 2 bands I just bought ($100) and pick up a classic buckle ($150) - then exchange sport watch for a SS w/ WSB

My logic in all of this...I am going to be very aggravated after say a few months and the sport is showing scratches on the watch face and scuffs on the body.

I know, the rough life

Received my SS BSB after ordering on Friday, after originally ordering the SGS. Interesting to see Sport SGS side by side with the SS. The sapphire screen is more reflective, almost slightly cloudy compared the the ion-x glass of the Sport. The Sport screen appears more black and flatter as a result - items on the screen seem to be flat on the screen, whereas on the sapphire screen the items seen to slightly float. Difficult to explain but there is a difference. From a practical perspective the Sport screen is slightly easier to read as a result.

The other difference is the SS is noticeably heavier - making it feel more substantial and expensive - and the SS body combined with the more reflective screen makes it appear larger on the wrist than than the Space Grey Sport, where the all black look makes the screen appears flatter.

Still on the fence as to which I'll keep - just been wearing the SGS for a few days and grown to like it. Will try the SS for a few days and see how I get on.

I'm afraid I will regret buying the space gray sport.

I have a few nice watches (mechanical) already so I'm not too concerned about it but I'm worried that the sport will feel cheap like a gshock, which I only wear while working out.

I'm not 100% sold on the Apple Watch concept. I got a gift card, so I'm getting the Sport. Give it a shot. If I like the operation, I may spring for a Gen2 SS. If not, I'm out a $400 gift card.

I originally pre-ordered a SGS, thinking I wouldn't want to spend a lot on a 1st-gen product. I even did a try-on which confirmed my choice. The SGS looked good for me. A week after getting the SGS, and seeing that I really liked it, I began to wonder if I should've gotten the SS. It looked good in the store. So I ordered one, and it was scheduled for delivery in July. I figured I would have time to make up my mind.

Well, the SS arrived on June 2. At first, since I had not even thought of the SS, then I thought I should stick with SGS. However, when I tried on the SS it looked really great. I'm still not entirely convinced though. The shine of the SS is very nice, but at the same time I sometimes think it's TOO shiny. I would catch it from the corner of my eye. Maybe over time I'll get used to it. The sapphire glass is a bonus, but since I've worn my SGS for a month without issues with the Ion-X glass, I'm not sure it's a real benefit for my lifestyle. As for SS body, I already see a few micro-scratches on it. I know SS does scratch, and I'm not too OCD about it, but it's still disconcerting to get them after a few days. I can't imagine how it will look over time.

I still have a few weeks to decide.

I had both and kept the Sport. Three main reasons that I will post in this thread too to help others.

1. Much brighter compared to SS. Sapphire glass makes it look dull in comparison to Ion X.
2. Crown feels and works better on Sport. Much smoother to use.
3. Weight. Sport weighs less and you feel it for sure.

Just my findings. SS just looked very dull and not vibrant like the Sport screen.
