I purchased the leather loop to dress up the SGS but after seeing the SS with black sport band in person, I think it stands up well as a business casual watch. Difference between SGS+Leather loop and SS w/ black sport band is $50. Makes the upgrade worthwhile for me.

Just a few more thoughts after one week with my SS + Black LL, preceded by two weeks with a SGS with BSB (which I returned).

  • My SS is definitely nicer, classier, dressier, feels more premium, much better "wow" factor. It's what I really wanted.
  • Display is glossier which some understandably see as a negative, but I feel contributes to the premium look and, since I'm only glancing at my screen (not reading web pages), is not a major downside for readability in my opinion. But yes it is noticeable.
  • The SGS with BSB was light enough and comfortable enough that it felt "barely there". This is not true with the SS + LL. It's much more "present" on my wrist. I'm still getting used to wearing watches again, so it's a bit of an adjustment for me, but I'm fine with it. But if your priority is that "barely there" feeling, you might want to stick with the Sport line.
  • I've concluded that the sport band is more comfortable than the LL. However the LL is comfortable, and more adjustable, and easier to make minor adjustments throughout the day. But overall, the Sport is the softer band that does a better job of "disappearing" after you put it on. I've got a BSB on order as a second band for my SS. Will see how often I use each. Probably will do LL for work/nights out, BSB for weekends.
  • On another thread, people are treating their LL with oil/leather conditioner. I don't have the guts to try this yet, but I have a feeling it would increase the comfort (not that it's bad, but the leather could be softer).

I have both the SS and the Sport and there are pros and cons for both.
I have always worn a watch so getting used to a device on my wrist was never going to be a problem.
In my view the SS is far superior. It is heavier, looks classier and I think the screen display is better.
However the sport screen doesn't seem to smudge as much with finger prints and I think it is more resilient to knocks and bangs.
Because the sport is cheaper and looks cheaper, any marks through knocks and bangs that I got on the case wouldn't bother me.... Not that I have any as yet.
It is a functional watch that I can wear and not worry about babying it.
The SS is stunning to look at to the extent that any damage would be detrimental to its appearance and if I was to knock or damage the SS casing, I feel that it would bug me to the extend that I would have to trade it in and replace it.
I will sell one of the watches but I am in the fence as to which one to keep. I prefer to wear the SS and if the SS case was more resilient then no contest as I would keep the SS but the sport is fantastic for everyday use. If I could pair both watches then I would keep both.

People pay their money and take their choice. I am sure that we all have nice things that we are proud of. I have many watches including a Rolex given to my father by Winston Churchill but this topic is about Apple stainless steel and sports watches which incidentally both have their pros and cons. I have both at the moment and I love the sport for every day use and the stainless steel for going out in the evening. I only intend to keep one but at the moment I am torn about which one to keep. Both are great watches and serve the same purpose

Please keep us updated on your choice.
I'm really interested to know which works out better for you, as I plan to buy one of the two soon...

Will do. I am swaying towards the SS as it is more pleasing on the eye but the sport is so much more durable and resistant to every day knocks

Is the stainless cumbersome (due to weight and/or durability) to work out with?

No not really but then I have always worn watches. To be honest although the sport is lighter than the SS I don't really notice much difference on my wrist. The SS feel sturdier and more solid but that's not taking anything away from the sport as it is still a very very well-made watch.
The sport has been designed for every day use including gym and fitness work. That doesn't mean that the SS wouldn't do the job just as well but both have their place.
I think that the SS is a much better looking watch but then I like shiny things anyway. The problem is that if you chip or scratch the SS it will stick out like a sore thumb Unless you polish it regularly

I have also always worn watches and I have shiny watches and matte finish watches so I'm really struggling with the choice (it doesn't help that the Apple Store near me doesn't have a 38mm gray).
I think that I will probably use the Apple watch for lounging about and gym, as I have other watches for going out or looking nice, but I'm not sure about my use cases for the AW because I don't have one.

I think that 38mm was too small for my wrist (178mm). Much prefer 42mm plus the battery I bigger and I think the battery life is a little better
