It is a CALIBRATION issue.

I just hope Apple has a universal calibration.

I cannot believe Apple still hasn't included a display calibrator. It will save them thousands from people who return their phone 1 million times for this "issue".

The calibration issue, if you insist on calling it that, was with the previous models which had displays which were too blue. People get used to that being "correct" and then perceive the iPhone 5 and iPad 3rd Gen as too yellow. Get somebody to measure the white temperature and you'll find it's pretty much 6500K, the standard colour temperature reference for white.

Yes, I agree. If need be, I will just jailbreak my iPhone 5 and install Colors so I can calibrate the screen to my own preference. More than likely I will just get used to the screen.

I do notice images on my iPhone 5 look heaps better colour-wise than the same image displayed on my iPhone 4.

Definitely. You're on to it.

Once jailbreak is out get ColorProfiles and you're away laughing.

i took a picture of some orange peppers at the market the other day with my iphone 5, and immediately looked at the pic on my phone.

i swear to you they looked exactly like they did in real life. I mms'd it to my fiance, with a 4S and they colors looked washed out in comparison.

Then i saw the same pic on my friends focus S. and they looked like you CRANKED the color up to 100% on a tv.

I cannot BELIEVE how long this glue myth has survived!

It isn't glue and never was. The glue thing was small yellow dots on the i4 screens 2.5 years ago, not an allover yellow tint!

The new screens are in-cell tech, there’s NO GLUE INVOLVED, the digitizer is built into the display! Yet people still parrot this fallacy!

The yellow will never go away. Never. Apple uses 3 different vendors for LCDs, one produces these yellowish displays. They are terrible. Absolutely terrible.

If it bothers you, like it does me, wait a few weeks for the next batch and get yourself a retail swap (NOT genius phone) to get one with a better screen.

This happens EVERY year.

----------

Usually the very first launch day phones are beautiful clear screens. Then you have a few weeks of yellow since these low quality screens apparently are easier to manufacture. The better screens will return in a few weeks.

You go on about the myth of glue (which you are right) and then go and blow it with the myth of first day displays.

My first day 4 was perfect. My first day 4S was washed out and hand the tint of piss about it.

Still waiting for my 5 ETA 26 of oct-2 of nov :(

Call me crazy but I don't think Apple would ship out less than perfect displays, being that people would return them. I think the yellowing is just how apple calibrated it, it's meant to be like this.

Also, I'm starting to prefer the iPhone since the screen looks more white and less blue compared to my iPod touch and sisters 4S.

I noticed this when I first got the phone, pulled it out to check again, and I dont notice it now.....

I've probably just got used to it tbh.

Yeah I'm starting to believe its not a defect, and unlike some above posters it's not Apple switching up the quality.

Lol ok man. Enjoy your yellow screen.

If youd have read carefully youd realize we are saying its a different lcd panel. The reason Apple keeps getting away with these lower grade panels is people like you.

Convince yourself all you want, in the mean time ill be enjoying a nice clear screen. And remember this for next year when this happens again. Im sure youll run into the next you who swears its all by design.

The emporer has no clothes. Apple uses low grade screens to meet volume demands.

Anyone have experience with getting replacements for this?

Ive gotten replacements every year. I always end up with a good screen but its a battle each year. Easy to get a replacement just open the settings menu on your phone and compare it at same brightness level to a known clear phone and show it to the genius. They will swap the phone instantly.

Sorry to disagree but glue is still used because apple has to adhere the glass to the actual display not the digitizer since your correct its in cell tech. That is why when trying to remove the actual glass you can't because it has been adhered to the actual display

I also believe this is too widespread to be linked to just one display manufacturer haha since a lot of people see this. In using the phone in school right now and it looks beautiful.

Anyone have any more input?

If you like the display, keep it.

The issue still isnt glue, even if glue is used. I still dont think it is used, but you are entitled to your opinion.

In any case, the glue problem was little yellow spots on the display, not an all-over tint.

Is it safe to say everyone has a tint? An some just haven't noticed it?

The only reason you notice it at all is because Apple's displays on iOS devices have been too blue in the past. Only now are they more accurate to the correct color temperature they should me.

So I really have nothing to worry about? This is really bugging me haha

How many different forum posters do you need to hear it from? No, it's not a problem, it's how all Apple's screens should have been right back to the original iPhone.

Not a fan of listening I see. Here it is again:

Not everyone has the yellow tint. Only phones with an LCD from one of the 3 manufacturers do. If you like it, keep it. If not, you have a 66% chance of getting a non yellow screen.

Clear?

Just to be super clear, I have personally seen and verified iPhone 5 units with blueish screens. I have held them in my hand. They exist. You dont have one. If you want one, try in a few weeks.

The end.

If these bluish ones are so rare then the screens that are getting the rave reviews about being the most accurate and the best consumer screen available are probably the ones that everyone thinks are yellow.

Mine seemed slightly yellow the first day compared to my iphone 4 and I wasn't so sure about it. Now when I look at the iphone 4 that I have used and loved for the last 28 or so months, it looks WAY too blue for me and this one looks white. I suspect that neither one really changed tho ;) Or maybe my glue just dried ;)

Just like when people properly calibrate a TV, at first it doesn't seem right. Then, once you are used to it, it's hard to watch a TV that isn't calibrated correctly.
For me, I would want one that's correct, even if that takes some getting used to.

As has been said a few times, this is a product of varying manufacturers of the LCD displays, Apple needs to source from more than one source to maintain worldwide supply. Not all displays are built the same and the manufacturer may well use different LEDs in their displays. Cheaper LEDs are normally more yellow and bluer LEDs are more expensive. Pure white LEDs are the most expensive to manufacture I believe and quite possible not even used in these displays.
This has affected iPhones and iPads for a long time now - I did similar testing with the iPads to illustrate this issue when the iPad 2 was released. I think there was such a demand for iPad 2 that more manufacturers were used leading to the diversity in screen hues. I don't think it is a case of the best quality screens are used first though, I believe it is quite random and just the luck of the draw although you can normally drill down to the factory & week of manufacture to get batches with identical screens.

Guys read this, it's a good article on the subject:

CN: The "warm" calibration is correct and a more natural color representation. iPhone 4 was too blue and thus innaccurate. Any iPhone 5 showing overly blue is an outlier as the correct calibration should be slightly warm.

I think people got so used to looking at the overly blue tint of the iPhone 4.

To all saying this is intentional: Lets talk again in a month.

This happens EVERY TIME!!!! People claim it's intentional, and the screens are now correct! iphone 4: intentional. Few weeks later: blue screens. 4S: intentional. Few weeks later: blue screens. iPad 3: interntional. Few weeks later.....getting the pattern here?

I cant believe how many times people have tried to convince themselves that Apple is trying to "move to a correct color calibration"! If that was the case, the screens on all Apple products would have been slightly yellow since the 3GS! That was my first experience with this, and yes everyone then claimed it was intentional! But alas a few weeks later the good screens returned.

So go ahead and convince yourselves that THIS TIME Apple is really moving to a warm calibration. Just ignore the 6 other times this has happened, and yet, Apple returns to the "Incorrect" blue screens every time.
