you have grapefruits..Just updated my 15 with no problems
Was almost not going to install it after I saw this and thought "Eh, if the worst does happen, I'll just DFU", which thankfully I did not have to resort to

If that is the case, very odd to say the least9to5Mac seems to think it’s related to the back tap feature. I’m wondering how many people actually have that enabled?
I do (more accurately, did) on my 15. Super convenient for magnifier. Updated OTA with no issues, as least not yet. I did turn off Back Tap just now, just in case.9to5Mac seems to think it’s related to the back tap feature. I’m wondering how many people actually have that enabled?
Looks like it’s a bug for people that use back tap.

Attached: 1 image Looks like the iOS 17.3 beta 2 boot loop is caused by a crash in backboardd. Based on the crash log, it’s more likely to happen for those who have the "Back Tap" feature enabled. Other accessibility subsystems seem to be affected by the same bug, but this crash is the one that...mastodon.social
Which seems to be true from what I've read on here; about half the comments I've seen are those that have been hit by the boot loop and then the other half saying it worked fine“Only affects small number of users”™
Turn off back tap and let it ripOkay, so my 15PM has the beta downloaded and asking me when I want to install- now or tonight. I haven't hit either choice, just letting it sit there.
Is there a way of deleting the download at this point? I looked in the iPhone storage setting, but do not see the download there.
I participate in the public beta (typically released shortly after the developer beta, so I guess I'll be missing this particular bug) and I do indeed install it on my main iPhone... and only that one device. My take is pretty simple: playing with features before they are available to the general public can be fun. The important factor for me is, I don't do anything particularly critical with my iPhone; to me, it's little more than a very expensive toy. Thus, there's no real risk, to me... and I suspect similar sentiments could possibly be expressed about other commentators in this thread. No idea why so many people are installing these. And apparently on their main devices. Unless you’re a developer or working in an IT dept I don’t see any reason, unless for it to go south and then complain about Apple losing it.
See my post right under yours.Turn off back tap and let it rip
FFS... it's a DEV beta.. This is not public facingMajor bugs from Apple that are functionally equivalent to Malware, but alternative app stores are the big risk?
How many would even use Back Tap? Even then the spinning ball doesn't happen to everyone even with that enabled. BTW this is still a Dev beta (yeah not a public beta yet) so some things were fixed from beta 1, like the beta 2 "Reset all settings" now mandates use of Face ID.Major bugs from Apple that are functionally equivalent to Malware, but alternative app stores are the big risk?
OTA or IPSW?FWIW I updated mine with no issue.
Had I seen this, I would have held off though. So everyone who hasn't updated yet, probably should not.
Except this is just a beta meant for testing and catching bugs just like these... and this "malware" as you put it will not put users data at risk of being stolen.Major bugs from Apple that are functionally equivalent to Malware, but alternative app stores are the big risk?

I'm trying to think of something which might be brick shaped, but smaller and not so hard. What is the correct term for a situation like this?
Or do you have to use a phrase to describe it (like "stuck in boot loop")?
