Someone summarise that poop so that I don't need to watch all of the YT videos.

Maybe the thermal stuff would be most interesting and hardest to do correctly, so start there. Especially, with respect to throttling of the MBA.

Many thanks and have a nice afternoon.
Don't think you need to worry about that...

"There’s no fan anymore, for one thing, just an aluminum heat spreader. But even when pushing this machine to its absolute limit, I never felt it get more than a little warm. Apple knows what the thermal ceiling for this system is, and it keeps the MacBook well within it."

"It never groans under multiple apps. (I’ve run well over a dozen at a time.) It handles intensive apps like Photoshop and even video editing apps like Adobe Premiere without complaint. It has never made me think twice about loading up another browser tab or 10 — even in Chrome."

I did not expect everybody to be so extremely positive, Apple seems to have actually nailed it (now just put a decent webcam in it and touchscreen).

Just scrolling down this page of the above videos makes my head hurt. Looks like a race to the bottom in desperately trying to get some attention. Yuck.
That's because every research shows that the cancer that are these thumbnails actually do generate more traffic.

Thanks! I fire it up today and try it out. It would be nice if it warmed up my wrists on a cold winter day like my old rMBP.

Why, do these automagically stop working?
They keep working, but usually lose access to OS upgrades much sooner than rev B of new Apple products. For example:

ipad 1: starting OS = iPhone OS 3.2
iPad 1: ending OS = iOS 5.x

iPad 2: starting OS = 4.3
iPad 2: ending OS = iOS 9.x

Coreduo MacBook: start OS = 10.4.6
Coreduo MacBook: end OS = 10.6.8

core2duo MacBook: start OS = 10.4.8
Core2duo MacBook: end OS = 10.7.5

The core2duo MacBook came out 5 months after the coreduo MacBook yet was able to move to Lion instead of being limited to Snow Leopard. This was when OS updates were 2-3 years apart as well.

I don't hate them individually, but I hate that someone like Rene Ritchie has dumbed down his content, makes these stupid looking thumbnails all in search of more views on YouTube. It's where the platform has gone, sadly. I say this as someone that subscribes to YouTube Premium because there is still loads of good content, but most of these tech reviews have taken a nosedive in the past year or two.

You still watch this guy? He lost all credibility years ago.

Must admit, I'm impressed so far with the performance gains.

But sadly, I already got burned by Apple when the device is not under apple care.

They dont see replacement motherboards at a reasonable price, so you are always placed in the spot of paying a lot for a motherboard or a lot more for a new device.

Lets see how this one goes.

Why so much hate for YouTubers? Is it just jealousy or something else?
its not jealousy. It’s that people who don’t have much knowledge in general are putting out content designed primarily to draw attention to their channel. YouTubers feel a little like parasites riding on the side of a giant animal, just feeding off the work of that animal. Not really creating much value in and of themselves.

There ARE good YouTubers. I really like Dave2D, MKBHD is great too. But these newer YouTubers feel like they’re just trying to make a quick buck and live the “YouTube life”.

Engadget scores the new Air at 94/100:

"Apple’s new MacBook Air is its most refined ultraportable yet, mostly due to the new M1 system-on-a-chip. It’s incredibly fast and completely silent, since it has no fan. It’s the first step towards unifying Apple’s hardware and software on Macs, and just like the iPhone and iPad, the result is a sleek and polished experience."

Depends on the YouTuber. Several linked in the article are nothing but shills saying nice things for free products and invites to Apple events. Zero credibility....buy hey....they say nice things so they keep getting free products.

The verge continues to be inconsistent. Mac mini looks very impressive and gets an 8? I paid 629 for one. It’ll be more than an 8.

This dingus reviewer is talking about a speaker in the mini? Who cares. You want to hook up speakers anyways.

Ports? Get a hub. Ram? Get something else. I’m good with spending 629. I don’t want to imagine what apple charges for a 64gb version.

Anyways you don’t ding a device for ram when you knowingly buy it with said amount of ram. It’s a wonder he didn’t complain about no kb or mouse in box.

I struggle with Dieter Bohn giving the Air a 9.5 while Nilay Patel gives the Pro only an 8.5. Unless they want to argue the low end MBP shouldn’t exist?

Two of Patel’s items in the bad column were # of ports and only 16GB RAM. He does know this is the low end MBP, right? He also said he had “hours of frustration” with the touchbar. Sounds hyperbolic to me. But throwing that comment in there I’m sure will generate more views/comments.
That is Patel's MO and has been for a long time. And don't bother trying to argue with him about it.

Most Mac applications have to run thru Rosetta II so the code can be converted, never a perfect process. 2. GPU processing is comparable to GPU's from 3 years ago, 3. New apps will be dual binary for a couple of years. 4. No bootcamp support. 5. New M1 processor, hopeful Apple does not have any security or math processing function errors on the chip. 6. In two years Apple will have all of the hardware and software bugs worked out, so if you want to be a early adopter for hardware and software then go for it. I am going to wait two years to see how the system progresses.

Of course video review are going to give all good reviews because they want to have views and money and have Apple keep sending them hardware.
You obviously didn't bother with any of the reviews. Apps are kicking ass and taking names in speed and performance under Rosetta II outperforming native speeds on Intel with base chips. The dude from the Verge would be more than happy to slam Apple if it sucked. He's one of the only unbiased reviewers at the Verge and one of the only reviewers across the universe I still have respect for.

Yep. And The Verge is big on click-bait titles and changing titles to see what gets the most clicks.

I mean anyone can make youtube videos. You, me, anyone reading this.

These are the accounts successful enough that they've been given pre-release computers for free, the ones we're all here, eager to learn about and pay money for.

So it's fine if people don't like watching YouTube, I understand, I can't stand watching TV, Netflix or most movies. But I also don't understand people leaving negative comments, you're not the target audience for those videos.
