After these very convincing reviews of the M1 I'm really looking forward to see how Apple Silicon will be capable to perform at a much higher TDP, performance goal and price point.

I hope Apple will be going all-in with the MacBook Pro 16" and deliver something outstanding.

And then there is the CPU/GPU for the iMac. It will be interesting to see what Apple targets the TDP for the iMac and the Mac Pro.

I am really looking forward to my future super powerful and super quiet MacBook Pro ... 🤩

I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the higher-end 13 (or 14) 😃

Wish Apple would drop those prices of the Intel models they still sell. It's like selling a brand new Phone Pager for $600 at this point.

I was a doubter but it looks like they really did it. I have a 10th Gen 2020 MBP 13" that I'm using right now and plan to use it for two years, but I will totally be ready to trade it in around the time a redesign (maybe 14") happens, which I think will be around gen 3.

The M1 GPU is mind blowingly unreal considering it is only 10 watts. A reviewer who was editing H265 video, that was monitoring the GPU wattage, saw the wattage hover around 7.9 watts. That is is crazy efficient and blazing fast. The Apple M1 GPU is 2.6 TFLOPS, 41 GPixel/s requiring only 10 watts or less. Imagine Apple scaling the M1 GPU to 16 cores while using less than 25 watts.
According to Anandtech, it is a 25 watt processor.

All this does is show just how lazy Intel is and how they lack in innovation. If Apple can do this (who has less years experience in making processors than Intel) and apparently Intel can't (all they do is make faster fire-burning processors) then Intel sucks and should be ashamed of itself that Apple is whopping their butt like this.

Impressive. Wonder what I can get on the used market for my 2020 MBP 13"? I bet less than I could a few weeks ago.
Probably not even worth trying to sell an Intel Mac right now. The value is going to drop so fast you might as well run them for the next couple years until the whole line is switched over to Apple silicon and Intel support is dropped.

Yeah that's really stupid. It makes the test pointless. Obviously the M1 is still impressive, but it's not an Apples to Apples comparison.
It was the intel MacBook Pro model that the M1 MacBook Pro model directly replaced so it seems relevant. And it was released 7 months ago.

And it’s actually literally an  to  comparison.

If we're being honest, Apple really didn't update those models, just slightly improved them. The new models carry the 10th gen Intel processors, and those 8th-gen intel models were roughly the same models from 2018. It just seems dishonest of Apple to have claimed them to be new, just as it is dishonest of Macrumors to do the same.

And even though this obviously isn't a "scientific" test, it also seems far and away like a bigger jump in performance than what Intel has been doing from one gen to the next... Especially if we're looking at fan spool-up as an indicator.

The market will still be relatively strong because of Bootcamp. This is a big drawback for those that dual boot.

This. If it weren't for VMware I'd be leaning towards waiting for the higher end M1(x?) MBPs. As it is, I might end up picking up the current 16" MBP from the refurb store soon-ish and using it till Apple kills macOS support for Intel/the hardware dies.

Meh. I don't see the excitement as this further separates Apple from gaining new users since the compatibility with the rest of the products available on the market is furtherer removed and these precessor don't help anything other than Apple. Intel did similar with an OS specially designed for Intel processors "Clear OS" and it was similarly remarkable but didn't support most graphic hardware, so lost interest by a huge user base. It also basically looks like anyone that recently purchased an Apple anything wasted their money yet again.

Your comparing the M1 chip to an 8th gen intel MacBook processor lol ok......

either way I’ll be upgrading to an M1 very soon but let’s be real now.
What difference does it make? It's not like Intel's new processors each year are significantly faster (because they barely ever are) or more battery efficient (because they never are) or more efficient to a point they don't overheat computers (because efficiency is not Intel's middle name) so the latest Intel wouldn't make any difference. Sounds like in the back of your mind you were kinda hoping the M1 wasn't quite as great, but it really is. You can go right on YouTube and check out a 13" 2020 MBP with the 10th gen Intel processor against the M1 Air and you'll get your answer, but if you're expecting the 10th gen to be closer to the M1, then let's be real about it, it won't.
