Thought the adds look good. The product updates look really strong this year....that said you're not going to get around a +20% price increase in the basic iPhone 12 (from the 11) especially during the pandemic. Would expect Apple to see sales drop for the 12 (from the 11) but we'll see.
Though you now get Oled on the base iPhone which is a significant upgrade and actually reduces the difference between the iPhone 12 and 12pro 6.1 .

My thoughts too. With my current QI charger I just pick up my phone and stick it in my pocket. With magsafe, I'm going to be picking it up without thinking, yanking the cable as the charger gets pulled off the back of my phone and drops to the floor, only to be saved by another yank on the cable.
My 2011 MBA has MagSafe and I have never ”yanked” it out when uncharged.

Anyone notice that top icons (wifi, battery etc) it’s horrible on iPhone 12mini? seems positioned under the notch
looks still on the left and right of the notch but not aligned

It’s a nice upgrade, just not necessary; especially on the Pro side. I think even Apple realizes the star is the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini. If you are coming from a 6 or 6s or 7, you will get your money’s worth.

Yeah I thought the same! On the products that you can buy, the two tiers of phones do not seem that differentiated from each other. My thought is maybe the iPhone 12 looks so good this year Apple might lose some 12 Pro sales, all OLED, all 5G etc. I Feel like pro-motion in the flagship devices might have given a little more differentiation & a bigger reason to spend more $$$. My X needs an upgrade & I'll probably just go for the standard model.
For me, the better camera and the zoom lense make the pro worth it. The zoom lense alone is worth it for capturing family photos.

Shame they didn’t put USB-C on the pro phones with all that power of the A14 the pro max could be an amazing video editing device but hampered by usb 2.0 speed transfer of external cards via lightning which is slow and wireless is also slow to transfer 4k files from go pro / drone across . Could have been a true pro workstation !
I'm a vocal USB-C naysayer here, but I agree this is a bigger disappointment year after year. It does seem like MagSafe is their new proprietary alternative to Lightning, which is a shame.

On the flip side, 15w charging is pretty darn close to the current 18w fast-charging wired speed. The Apple MagSafe charger looks dumb as heck, but if someone makes a Palm Pre style charger, where the phone is held at an angle and the charger has some weight to it so it doesn't lift off the table, that could be pretty slick.

Then there was the upcoming Belkin car vent magsafe adapter that Apple briefly showed...since I use a vent adapter with a magnet in my case, I can't use wireless charging and I thought having it all built in one unit would be cool, until I realized that I have to PLUG IN to get CarPlay, so really, what's the point of the Belkin adapter? Only a handful of new cars even have wireless CarPlay.
The problem with using magnets alone for a car mount is it's really unsafe in a car accident. That 7oz/200g slab of glass and metal hurling through the interior of a car at driving speeds can cause serious injury in an otherwise benign car accident. I tell people that the rule of thumb is if you wouldn't want it thrown at your face by a major league pitcher, it should be held in place somehow in the car.

Still trying to figure out what the advantage of this new Magsafe is. You'll need both hands to remove the phone from the charger. Then why not use the Lightning cable and have faster charging than any inductive charger could provide?
What if it could be would mounted or maybe the bottom allows for a suction cup style placement for flat smooth surfaces like glass or wood desks.

Hate to say it, I've been on the iPhone bandwagon since it first came out; I'm beginning to wonder if innovation has been replaced with forced obsolescence and incremental updates. It's a shame that the major milestone feature is 5G, I just don't see it as life-impacting. Shape changes and sizes and colors just don't rank up there with true technology advancement. Yes, in the end, it's a phone and there is only so much you can do with it, but I really want something new, something genuinely new. I think Apple might have something with the smart home show they put on display during the event, but don't think we are there just yet. Here's to hoping, dreaming and staying foolish!

Removing it from a Macbook which nobody (I know of) asked for, to then add it to a phone which nobody (I know of) asked for.

It is like Apple is going in exactly the opposite direction of the puck these days.

No chargers included would be fine if they would finally put in an usb-c port in it. Just annoying that you still need an extra cable solely for your phone while all other tech is using usb-c for years (filmmaker here). But couldn't care less about the update anyway since I gonna use my 11 pro for at least 2 more years. But if you are in for a you phone you get a nice upgrade. Just baffled to see how many people here in this forum fill the urge to upgrade (for what?).

I guess there are a lot of iPhone 6/7/8 users for whom the iPhone 12 mini is a perfect upgrade. I will stick with my iPhone 7 for at least another year, because I won't buy a phone without Touch ID in a time when we all wear masks in public in the foreseeable future.

Noticed that right away on the keynote. The attention to details that made Apple so especial is really vanishing, sad.

I've also had MacBooks with magsafe, but a phone is different where you've got used to picking it up off a non-magnetic charger several times a day, or even several times an hour - it's inevitable that at some point it's going to get picked up forgetting that the charger is still going to be 'stuck' to the back putting load on the cable and connections.

Yeah the zoom lens is definitely a loss & makes the decision a little harder. On balance though I store most of my pics in the cloud so will probably still go with the base config 12 which is £200 cheaper than the pro. Get what you're saying though for sure.

Umm regarding the MagSafe Leather Wallet: I thought it was credit card 101 to keep them away from magnets?
