IMHO, Apple should create special areas in Apple Stores to show off their discontinued devices to get people familiar with their history.
tim would say something like
woah! be careful there, we wouldn't want to let people start asking questions about us!

I get it. Some people go through life being perpetually cynical of mice-nuts stuff you come across every day, always on the lookout for ulterior motives of others. That's OK and one's right.

I choose not to, believing most people are good, have a right to be happy, and should be able to freely express that.

If I were in Cook's shoes I'd react the same way, shake the man's hand, and welcome him inside and have a chat, seeing that he probably purchased his Mac 30+ years ago when he was in his 20's to 30's. and has a few stories to tell about it. I understand Cook signed the customer's Mac once inside. I'm happy Cook was able to add a little joy to that man's day as his Mac clearly meant a lot to him going way back to the 1980s.

Fortunately there are people willing to brighten others' day a little. Hat-tip to Mr. Cook for being one of them.

Sounds like you need to stand up and vote with your wallet, sending Apple a strong message by purchasing competitor products instead of Apple's.

Will you do it? Or is it just another day of perpetual unhappiness, another rag on Apple/Cook, life goes on.
