MacRumors has an autoimmune disease that mistakes joy for an infection.

Still have mine, its boots up using a Floppy I cant get the HD to boot as I need an extra Scsi terminator and lost mine years agoWow, that's cool. I passed on an opportunity once (20+ years ago) to get a couple of Mac SEs for free. They had been donated to a church rummage sale that my mother-in-law was organizing. I still kick myself that I didn't take at least one.
Yes, it really is.
It's the new normal to express no joy, rag on just about everything, and be perpetually cynical and unhappy in life.
Like nill? Apple Park is still in CaliWhat are the chances of Tim Cook permanently moving and residing in India? 🇮🇳 💪
So? He doesn't own the Apple Park building.Like nill? Apple Park is still in Cali
Correct, he also doesn't live there. Though I bet he has slept there occasionally. So? He doesn't own the Apple Park building.
Ah crap, that'll teach me to read past the first pageNice to see a priceless, dusty old relic.
The Mac was nice too!
This is a nice, wholesome article. Everyone looks genuinely excited and it's nice to see Tim and Apple express joy looking at a classic Mac that helped start it all, and the fans who share the love of the early days of Apple.
It's a shame that people find the need to be so negative towards Tim at every turn with underlying policial tones and not so subtle gay digs here and there (legit product and business decision critiques aside).
Every now and then I realize that thanks to the iPhone bringing Apple to the masses over the years, the company got so big that it doesn't just attract those who Think Different, but also those who are afraid of and or against the concept behind this idea - a concept that doesn't only pertain to their products.
Maybe some people are going through life this way. Not me... but I still had mixed emotions seeing this.Spot on.
I think that's because so many people have little room for happiness or joy in their lives that it triggers massive cynicism that another human being might not be so rigid or closed up to expressing genuine happiness, as they are..
It's a sad situation and getting worse everyday.
Maybe some people are going through life this way. Not me... but I still had mixed emotions seeing this.
I mean, sure - I thought it was cool someone still had their original Mac and went to the trouble to bring it, etc. etc.
But I also see a LOT of these older Macs still around, out there. I was on a Facebook buy/sell/swap group for a while that's dedicated to people reselling older/obsolete Mac gear, and stuff this this appears weekly. Often, someone simply wants you to throw them $10 or so plus the actual shipping cost to take it off their hands.
If Tim Cook was genuinely this excited to see one, I partially question if he's maybe a little out of touch with the state of "vintage" Mac gear? (As CEO of the company constantly pushing people to buy the latest products and which pretty rapidly declares older systems "unsupported", that does seem likely.)
I think you're analyzing this way too much, perhaps looking for a gotcha to hang Cook on.
It was a moment in time. With a guy bringing in his own Mac SE from the late 1980s (30+ years ago). Cook was genuinely surprised in that moment not expecting that. That's vintage enough with respect to Macs; the first being introduced in 1984.
I would have reacted the same way. Surprised and happy. Nothing wrong with expressing that.
Seriously, this is not even worth analyzing. It was just a sweet moment in time both Cook and the Mac owner enjoyed. Be happy for both of them. I would have been.
Why cast it as something other than that? To feel better taking a tiny slam at Cook?
If you are unsure about a single photo, you could watch the video which is also in the article.I dunno.... a single photo can be misleading, since it just captures one very brief moment. Maybe I am reading too much into it. The photo shown in the top of this article just looked a bit "over the top" to me with Cook's level of joy at seeing this?
CNN reported it as "an original Macintosh". I said, no it's not, that's an SE!
