ive looked at for five seconds, but I quite like it . 49mm rules it out for me though, it would be ridiculous on my wrist.

It’s too big for me too and would look stupid on my wrists. Not my taste in terms of design and much prefer the standard Watch shape. I’m sure big people will buy it and use it to track their progress as they lose weight though.

The part I quite like is the flat screen. Thought it would look ridiculous and now kinda like it. I wish it was more seamless though with the body, it looks like a separate part slapped on / like a watch case.

The spiky crown is cool too.

Not sure about the rest though - that right elongated button thing and the very same-y design otherwise.

It's huge, but the truth is all watches with these capabilities, like certain Garmin's, are just as big if not bigger.

My diving days are behind me, and I need my watch to fit under my sport bike racing suits, so this one is a psss for me, but I can see a lot of people loving the thing. Until that top edge gets incredibly dinged up, that is. Titanium is too soft and that edge is too square for good results in the long term. They should have put in a sacrificial bezel at the very least.

Pricing was a pleasant surprise after the wrong (as usual) 1K+ rumors.

ETA: Oh hell, who am I kidding. Mine will arrive with green Alpine Loop band on September 23. I would have ordered Orange, but I know what that would look like after two months.

The fact that this works with existing 44-45mm bands put it over the top for me. Good move on the part of Apple.

its weird the stock photos make it look hideous to me, and the few Verge photos make it look like pretty nice,

perhaps they took a photo from the most flattering angle though (photo 3) and in photo 1 their hand is covering it so now I dont know what to make of it anymore?

but 49mm is WAAAAY too big for me.

Overall I like the look, but I hate the garish orange button and dislike that it's not available in a space gray or space black option. If they toned down the button (or made it the same color as the rest of the body) and made the body available in a better color, I think it'd look really nice. And if it came in a smaller size...say 45mm, I'd certainly have already preordered.

Given that the screen is close to the same size as 45 mm (around 7% larger area), you could get the same effect with a chunky case for a 45 mm watch

I’d have to see it in person. Photos usually don’t do Apple products any justice. That said, I don’t think it looks that great in the photos so as of now, no, not a fan of the aesthetics. I don’t think this watch had aesthetics in mind though during the design process. Will have to wait and see.

However, I did order it with the midnight ocean band. Pretty sure I won’t be using most of the features but I’m looking forward to the extended battery life and larger screen.

As previously stated, a black option would’ve been nice and does the action button really have to be in international orange? Who’s gonna see that anyway but the wearer? I predict it will eventually change to just an orange ring like the cellular model crowns. Looks like they used that orange for the ring on the crown as well.

At the very least, it will definitely stand out from the crowd of other Apple Watches.

The flat screen is a nice element but the more I look at photos of it the more it looks like a cheap Chinese android watch. It doesn’t carry much of the design language from the iconic Apple Watch design and on the whole doesn’t look that stylish in my opinion. It’ll be popular though no doubt, I just won’t be one of those people admiring it.

It’s definitely a statement. It’s like a big offroading truck with giant knobby tires. I don’t think it’s particularly attractive but as someone said, that’s not the point of this watch.

I’m getting one in spite of being disappointed that it’s so ugly. I just hope my current bands will fit okay.

I’m afraid I’ll just use it for working out and continue to wear my Series 7 to the office just because I think it’s nicer looking.

Being someone who generally thinks the 41mm on link bracelet is the best looking of all the models, I somehow like the Ultra. It’s got an oversized, tool’ish absurdity, a bit like putting on an Omega Ploprof. I ordered one to try out.

I ordered the S8 Hermes and will check out the apple store when this releases. I want to see how it looks before buying. I have smaller wrists

I guess the thing to remember is that this watch is, as was rumoured, specifically targeted at people who may otherwise buy a watch from Garmin, Suunto etc and are more interested in functionality rather than how it looks.

Some people just want a bigger Apple Watch, but this really isn’t it.

It looks very un Apple like aesthetically. The screen looks big but many of the pictures it seems like it doesn’t take up anything like the same display screen real estate. The specs from Apple below seem to show it. Much larger screen but not a large display. It’s a strong pass for me ordered an S8 but I’m not the market for the watch either to be fair.

45mm S8
396 x 484 pixels
1,143 sq mm display area

49mm Ultra
410 x 502 pixels
1,164 sq mm display area

The watch looks better than the 3D renders from the other day. It isn't something I would ever buy, but I don't hate it. I think the bands are sweet looking. I wish they weren't so expensive.

For the people concerned that their wrists are too small, are they smaller than the SMALL band measurement? If they offer a small band option, shouldn't it be "appropriate" for smaller people? Or, just a matter of taste I suppose ...

What do people consider looking ridiculous?
