I didn't care much when I saw the rumours days ago, but seeing it in hands on photos, I love it. Not sure if I'll upgrade, or if the size will be comfortable for me, but I really like where they went with it. Really digging the rugged oversized look it has, and also the new bands.

I like the flat screen which allows the case to take all the damage. I hope that design trait comes to the regular watch. The curved glass isn't all that pretty and makes the regular watch unnecessarily fragile.

I hate the bulge around the Digital Crown.

I don't think there is enough extra screen real estate with the Ultra to even be noticed. If it had less bezel and more real screen, I would probably have gotten it over the 8.
Exactly I wanted the bigger screen but it’s not it’s just bezel and casing it’s so disappointing, why add such a huge bezel, it looks like a step back from series 7, I just wish the series 8 had the better brightness etc

I’ve knocked my series 7 stainless steel Watch loads and never had an issue or damaged the Watch so what’s the point of the huge rugged look that makes the screen look worse with them huge bezels

For the people concerned that their wrists are too small, are they smaller than the SMALL band measurement? If they offer a small band option, shouldn't it be "appropriate" for smaller people? Or, just a matter of taste I suppose ...

What do people consider looking ridiculous?

can only speak for myself but when I tried out the larger sizes, they are disproportionately large to my wrist width.

And experience / perception wise, it feels like I have a mini iPad electronic slab attached to my wrist and less a watch with smart watch capabilities

..ymmv

I think it's kind of cool, and definitely good for the right kind of user, but ultimately it's not for me (which is totally fine, of course).

I think it's the best looking Apple Watch yet. In fact it's the only one I've ever looked at and thought "I want that on my wrist" purely from an aesthetic point of view.

All previous Apple Watches were too soft, rounded, and non-descript. The standard design looks like a gizmo, a gadget, you know it's a dinky little smart watch. The Ultra looks like a proper watch! The digital crown extrusion area adds a bit of personality like regular watches have and I like the way the body curves up to protect the edges of the glass. I hate the curved glass on the Apple Watch so having a flat display cleans it up for me. The contrast of the orange accents with the titanium finish is aesthetically pleasing, reminds me of that one off Vacheron Everest watch, I'm glad they don't have a darker finish because that would look tacky. The Alpine band looks really nice, probably the best looking Apple Watch band I've ever seen because it has some element of sculpture and personality beyond just a simple piece of cloth or rubber, it helps that all of the band hardware is titanium rather than plastic (notice how there's no visible plastic on any Ultra watch band). Not a fan of the ocean band however.

Finally I have big wrists so this would look good.

I guess Zakarhino is in luck. He got exactly what he wanted. I’m going to be happy with the better battery life, louder speakers, and brighter screen. But every time I see a picture of the Ultra next to a stainless steel Series 8 I think how nice the Series 8 looks.

I’m debating getting it for the battery life for solid sleep tracking but do I really want to sleep with something this big on my wrist? does anyone know if sleep tracking works in this new low power mode they talked about today? If that’s the case I may as well just get a SS Series 8

They really sold the ultra fitness geek as the target audience, making the fat, needing of fitness training, out. Being the latter, I think I’ll see if I can create a secondary market market for cool people like myself 😃

I think a big factor in the overall design is its suitability for diving. Think underwater wearing neoprene gloves. The buttons need to be bigger and the user needs to be able to feel for them without looking too closely. In fact, that is a general design consideration, if you’re running/cycling/swimming. Plus, by moving them outboard, it frees up more interior space for a bigger battery.

I like it, but aesthetically, I like the Series 8 in SS even more. The curved glass looks great, while the flat screen looks more generic.

Also, with the way it’s currently designed, the Ti edge around the screen is going to get dinged up easily. 🥶🥶🥶 Titanium is too soft, though SS wouldn’t have fared much better.

Maybe I’ll wait for the inevitable “small” 47mm version to be released next year.

I think it’s ugly as sin. I still bought one though. It’s got some really useful features and the extra battery life would have been handy while camping the last few times.

lol. Scratches? Who cares? The more durable titanium protects the brittle edges of the sapphire.

I hope a single person who worries about watch scratches doesn’t buy the Ultra. It’s missing the point entirely, and we’re never going to hear the end of it.

Some of the features are certainly very nice like the longer battery life but I feel this should be on all iPhones now, not just this one. I think Apple owe it to the people who have been using Apple Watch for the past 7 years to improve the battery, not just add a low power mode that disables three quarters of the watches useful features.

I’m with you in the aesthetics to be honest, not sure where in the Apple design ethos this crept in but yes I suppose it’s ugly like most dive computers out there. This wouldn’t be something I wear to work for instance or anywhere if I wasn’t doing some form of sport. Awful design let’s be fair.

Style icon Gianni Agnelli wore a Ploprof on an Isofrane rubber strap over his cuff, and the Ultra on midnight ocean strap is giving me those vibes.

He also wore a belt over pants while wearing ski goggles at the same time (sunglasses over his ear not on top too, sheesh)

I love the looks, I am a bit worried it will look huge on my wrist, but at the same time I don't really care. The rugged look has always been a style I liked in other watches so to see it come to the apple watch was really huge for me. Then you add in the better battery life and the sapphire with ti case at the price they offered and it was a no brainer to at least try it out.

I think it looks okay, but nothing special enough to make me want to buy one. I currently wear a 51mm Fenix 6 and it looks normally sized on my wrist so I could easily pull off the 49mm size of the Ultra, but I don't have a need for the extra features of it and don't love the look enough to pay the extra $$$ for it. I ordered a 45mm AW8 in Midnight instead - if I want the rugged look I'll put a case on it. I'll still have my Fenix if I need a really rugged watch and/or the extra battery life for a trip where I'll be off the grid for a few days.
