After seeing the SS LB in store again last night, I have to say that Apple watch looks much better in person than in photos. Even in Apple's pristine white room rendering photos.

I like black things. I've also had a black Pebble for the last 2 years or so. But I feel the Space Grey Sport and Stainless Black Link are probably my least favourite colours. Just quite uninteresting and techy looking.

So I'm pleased with my choice, if the thing would hurry up and arrive.

My wife loves her 38mm stainless. Very happy with it.

I have 3 minor smudge-like scratches [but definitely not smudges] on my link bracelet and I've only worn it twice. Is this something I should try to get a replacement over or is it par for the course?

I wasn't sure you could polish brushed steel. It won't disturb the texture/look?

Just enjoy the watch. You're in that phase where it's new and you want so bad to keep it looking exactly like it did when you took it out the box. I'm a watch fanatic and own many dumb watches. It's normal with stainless to get Knicks here and there. After a while, you won't even pay attention and you will just enjoy the looks and functions of the watch.

Fair enough; I know you're probably right. I was just making sure it was normal to see that this soon.

A few passes with a scotch brite pad following the grain in the steel should work out scratches but I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as it's not staining or corrosion you're ok.

42 SS Link shippiing

SS42+LB, xx:04 PST

Rec'd 05/12/15 comfortable and beautifully designed. Hopeful for all to receive your orders sooner than later :apple:

Thanks, we're hoping to get ours soon. :)

Yeah, stainless steel does scratch/mark, but because the underlying metal is the same colour it doesn't matter too much. It can be polished out. Watches do look "worn" over time, it's normal.

After owning (and enjoying) the original black black iPhone 5, I'm not interested in dark coatings. I think the black stainless and space grey models will show marks badly over time.

The black stainless steel is not a normal coating like your iPhone 5. It has a diamond like carbon layer which makes it very hard to scratching. If anything, the black stainless will hold up to marks better than the others. I'm not sure how the space gray sport will look as that might be easy to gouge

Space Black SS Link is too dark imo. I initially ordered it but then cancelled it.

It's on the bottom of the band. You'll literally never see it. I've owned at least half a dozen stainless steel bands in my day and can tell you that that part of the band WILL get scuffed. You'll never know it though until you take it off and actually look.

I've had anodized aluminum watches before. They can be very colorful!

They also dent and scratch like crazy, and I'm super careful with my watches. I swear I gave mine a mean look one day and it scratched just to spite me. Anodizing varies, and I'm sure Apple is doing it very well, but I'd be careful with the Space Gray if I had that one.

I've also had DLC black watches. I'm wearing one right now. That puppy is hard as nails - not a single scratch or nick anywhere on it, and I wear it every day and rarely take it off. It looks like I just took it out of the box. If it didn't have the DLC coating, it would have small, fine scratches in the stainless by now. Now, I'm sure if I slammed my wrist into a brick wall, it would scratch, and that scratch would be far more noticeable because the underlying metal would show through.

DLC coatings also vary, and again, I'm sure Apple is doing it very well. I wouldn't be super-concerned if you got the black stainless watch. Treat it with reasonable care, like you would any watch, and you should be fine.

One final word of caution. Sapphire is incredibly hard, and I'd be amazed if you ever managed to scratch it. I've accidentally slammed my watches with sapphire crystals against sharp metal doors, bricks, you name it (many different watches over many years - it happens.) It scares the heck out of me, but I always check and there is never a scratch. Ever.

However, that hardness comes with a price, and if you've had some experience with really hard tungsten carbide drill bits, I bet you know what that trade-off is. And I bet you wear eye protection while using them. That's because it is very brittle, and that means the edges can chip.

Don't consider that crystal indestructible. If you knock it against something on the edge, you'll get a chip. It will be a small chip, it won't be ruined, and nobody but you will likely even be able to see it, but you'll know it is there, and it will bug you.

My three cents.

Hope to see some movement on my 42mm SS Link watch soon ordered 4/10 at 8:47am eastern still showing processing it's driving me crazy. Can't wait to get mine and hopefully these flights coming in will be more watches for us that are still waiting.

Finger crossed for some movement during this weekend :apple:

I agree. I ordered 4/10 9:00am EST, an haven't had any movement yet either. Hopefully the next day or so we'll get the ball rolling.

I have these same type marks on mine. I'm pretty aware of it running against things. I notice it the most while typing on a computer. I figure I'll see how bad it gets before going to Apple. If polishing it out works I would do that as well.
