It's not a black paint that will come off or scratch easily. It's a diamond like carbon coating (google it) which is very hard wearing.

I actually have watches with both a DLC or PVD black coating.
Unfortunately, they are still capable of scratches and scuffs.

I used to manage a jewelry store and am obsessively careful with my watches, and ended up with a few scuffs on the bezel.

Picture This ..

Apple .. why did you make the 42mm SS Link Bracelet your poster picture boy when you didn't have any for delivery on 4/24 to begin with ?

The Pre-Orders went so wrong specially with this "bit expensive, yet affordable" price range if I may say so ..
You begin with spending more than the cheaper version (Sports Watch) which were ordered the most and less than the ones which would be bought the least (Edition Watch), however you get less precedence over the cheaper ones. I'm pretty sure they must have got an idea with some statistics around Favorited items in our Apple Store App. Probably the should have run a survey way before making adjustments to their orders to the suppliers. You should know like a car company what sells the most & the least - Hatchback, Sedan, SUV, Truck and then go to assembly line.

We pick up these in blind faith, with try on appointments starting the day of pre-orders. So like everyone, I was buying a $999 watch, burning the midnight oil without even looking at it before ordering. Fine this happens with iPhones as well, but it's a matured product. So Try-On should have been a week before Pre-Order if I may say.

Now, I don't buy that Apple won't have been aware that this particular model (42mm SS LB) won't be shipped on 4/24. If you knew that some of your models had limited availability or no availability. Then allow users to order in the morning instead of waking pre-order night and rushing to know when ordered that "Oh No.. I'm not getting it on 4/24".

I see no one claim that they are getting some of the uber expensive Apple Watch on 4/24 itself. It more seems like a Apple Watch Sports launch for 4/24. (if you wanna see it this way)

It's called supply and demand. Looks like Apple are processing watches in order of what was most popular first. Makes perfect sense, get the HUGE batches of the most popular kinds out first, then the large sized batches of the next few kinds, then the middle sized batches of the next watch types and finally the super ridiculously expensive editions which probably sold the least.

Unfortunately our SS (Space Black) Links will be on the smaller end of the order scale. Hence we are getting them later.

Even the pink sports band watch orders haven't moved yet. Most likely because they were not ordered in as large quantities as the others.

Apple likely said it would be 4-6 weeks from the word go for our watches because from information they gathered it looked like they would be overwhelmed with orders for more popular watch/strap combinations for that 4-6 week period, and hence they speculated that our watches won't have been ready any earlier.

Makes perfect sense to get the larger quantities out first and the smaller ones later, cost of the product doesn't come into it. It's what works best for Apple logistically and it's customers as a whole world wide.

I have the same May 13-26 ship date for my 42mm SS Watch with Link Bracelet order.

If I had to guess, I'd say there must be a supply chain issue with a component or maybe the steel used in the link bracelet, since nobody got one on launch day. The video does say it takes 8 hours to make one link bracelet.

In the precious seconds after midnight on April 10th, we all had to make a quick decision whether to hurry and get our order for the link bracelet version in, or to order a different version and buy the link bracelet separately. I wish I would have done that, then I'd probably be getting a watch Friday.

That being said, I think the link bracelet looks really classy and we are going to be glad we waited. #

Same date as everyone else. Really disappointing that our selection of watches - top end for the SS - wasn't actually "launching" on release day at all. I feel a bit lied to.

Feels worse that I ordered the SS with link and separately ordered a black sport band for it. If I'd done that the other way around (SS with black sport band and a separate link bracelet), I'd have mine on launch Friday.

Lastly, I ordered a 38 SS with Milanese loop for my wife who is SIGNIFICANTLY less excited than I am about Apple Watch. She wants one, but isn't rabid like I am. Now she'll get hers on Friday (already shows as prepping for ship), while I wait another 3-4 weeks for mine.

I should add that I executed both orders approximately 1-2 min after the Apple Store came back online on April 10th.

Disappointed.

I agree. I ordered mine at the same time, and immediate 4-6 weeks. If we are shelling out that much cash AND they are advertising it on reviewers' wrists, it should be available on launch day, never mind that it really didn't even launch on the 24th.

My situation exactly. Wish I had ordered the black sport band with the watch and the link separately. I did the opposite and got burned.

This might be the saddest of all the apple watch forums.

Wait. My card just got charged!!! SS watch with link band ordered at 3:02am eastern.

I'm not a troll...

I got a confirmation email at 3:03 for a SS 42 with link. My amex just got charged on apple pay.

It still says "processing" on the apple site.

it surprises me that my separate order for a bracelet would get a 4/29-5/12 at the same time others were getting a 4-6 week window for a watch with the link. I figured apple would devote more of the bands coming out of the factory to full watch orders and fill the band only ones later.

I haven't seen any movement in that order yet but I hope a lot of you all get your watch before I get my band. I'll be perfectly happy with my sport band in the meantime.

still awaiting my charge and preparing for shipment on my 42mm SS with sport band

Are you serious? That's the 3rd person in last 5 minutes who got charged. I'm at 3:02 est too. Nothing for me yet.

It would be really messed up if apple charged my card today and still didn't ship for another 2 weeks.
