from the preview/trailers i would expected the same as somebody not knowing anything about the comics

believe it or not some people grew up without US super hero comics and still enjoy the movies (not all though)

edit: i'm going to wait until it comes to dvd or TV because of some of the comments noting the lack of action

Well, it's not about action. It's a very different movie than that. Although the action that is in the film is quite violent and bloody.

Saw the film last night, and I have to say I was very disappointed.
I started falling asleep at a 7:00 movie about 30 minutes in, and I NEVER do that.
I almost got up and left bored 2 or 3 times but didn't want to give up.

I found virtually nothing to capture my attention or hold my interest.
It was not compelling to me, and had no character development.

The blue wang didn't bother me... it was inconsequential.
I didn't like anybody in the movie really.

To each his (or her) own, and I don't want to bash those who liked it.
It just wasn't for me.

I give it a "meh" and wish I had my $9 back. :(

Edit: It did explain some of the avatars around here... best part of the movie for me

I personally loved the film! The message of the movie is so deep; I love how it portrays what the world would be like if there really were super-heroes. It strips their costumes off and take you right into their struggles and hardships in life and shows that they're real people. I would suggest that people read the book prior to seeing the movie though. You will be completely lost and bored if you haven't read the book. I don't see what the big deal over the nudity is; we all are human...

I'd give it a solid 8/10.

I will definitely not be seeing this movie. The only things I heard from the people who saw it were that it sucked and the blue guy had some big....well, um, you know.... :D

I just got back from seeing it again. I liked it even better the second time around. I hadn't read the book, and I was neither lost, nor bored. I have bought it though, and have been reading it.

I'm surprised so many people are only taking "blue penis" away from this movie. Some of the images that stayed with me are:

-The Comedian's head breaking the granite countertop
-Silk Spectre 1 in the opening title sequence
-Rorschach burning the guy with the fryer oil
-Niteowl breaking someone's elbow backwards
-Ozzy dodging that bullet

I guess I'd recommend reading the novel or at least skimming over it in the book store before seeing the movie.

Anyone who is faint of heart should go see something else.

Yeah. It was good stuff. I liked the scenes on Mars too.

So, we went and saw it last night. I liked it overall but I felt the ending was really rushed and didn't quite understand all the hype surrounding it.

Dr. Manhattan's penis was the least of my worries (who cares).

Briefly ... what's different about the movie's ending and the graphic novel's ending? I read there was something about a squid monster?

Personally, I expected it to be sort of a grown-up comic book, much darker than it turned out to be.

I wasn't lost... I just wasn't interested for the most part
It was different, yes, but compelling? No, not in my opinion
It never grabbed me with anything

It wasn't awful, it was just mediocre at best
The whole Dr. Manhattan character was a turnoff to me

To me, the only interesting part of the movie was Rorschach
I wish he would have just kicked everyone's *ss in the movie and been done with it ;)

Apparently, the DVD and Blu-ray that is coming out in July is going to put back 30 minutes of cut footage from the film. They're also going to interweave some of the other scenes from the comic that were just artist renderings and not actually shot.

Maybe that will make the film easier to follow.

Maybe that will make the film make more sense.

I definitely think that'll be a good move. I would have liked it to be longer.

What you are talking about is The Black Freighter - a comic about pirates that is being read by a character in the comic. So Watchmen is almost like two comics in one if that makes sense.

So because The Black Freighter is a comic to the characters in the Watchmen universe, it makes sense for that story to be animated instead of shot live action. It should be pretty cool when the whole thing is put together.

^ whadduya know, me too, e! ;)

I thought it was an awesome film.

And Dr Manhattan, <3

Was there really a big deal made about his penis? It wasn't exactly a focal point of the film and they didn't make it obscenely large and pendulous or anything else to obviously draw your attention to it. Considering his mental awareness I think it made sense that he wasn't clothed (except for when he was around the american military, of course).

I saw it on Sunday. I read the comics when I was a kid and remember enjoying them on some level but also feeling that I'd missed something.

The movie brought back so much of the comic to me.

Personally, I left feeling that it was a good film but hard to rave about because of the tone. At times it was stunning and I admire it greatly but it's heavy going.

I went home and started reading the comics again. I'm on issue 4 at the minute but now I REALLY wanna see the film again!

I thought you guys might like it. I'm thinking of going again.
