They stated it wasn't going to be there until October. My fiancé was furious to discover this feature was not present when she bought the AW9 for our son. She literally wanted to sue Apple for false advertisement.

Its similar, like a version 2.0 of the previous feature though. Which is why everyone is saying its strange they act like this is a completely new, never before seen feature. And as has been discussed before, not the same
I don't disagree.I always wonder if long term it is better or worse to do this though. It builds resentment over time when they lock software features behind new hardware.
Being in the Apple ecosystem is just weird. I had an iPod, but never used a Mac besides as a kid on like an Apple II. I was using a Treo when the iPhone came out and I realized how awesome it would be to have an iPod + smartphone in one device. When I got the iPhone it was amazing. The next week I switched to a Macbook. My house is full of Apple products - phones, watches, homepods, airpods, etc. I love their products. There is also a part of me that hates Apple, too. The products are so expensive compared to competitors, but yet they are the cheapest company - things like low ram, locking small software features behind hardware, etc. I'm not abandoning ship any time soon, but it doesn't sit well. Some day someone will eventually will come along and replace them and I'll happily jump ship.
Sounds like she needs to calm down a bit.My fiancé was furious to discover this feature was not present when she bought the AW9 for our son. She literally wanted to sue Apple for false advertisement.
Apple used to do this way more back when Jobs was CEO.I always wonder if long term it is better or worse to do this though. It builds resentment over time when they lock software features behind new hardware.
You can't sue since they stated right in the presentation, "coming later".My fiancé was furious to discover this feature was not present when she bought the AW9 for our son. She literally wanted to sue Apple for false advertisement.
What do you mean? The accessibility feature was not removed. The previous accessibility feature was removed, in order to provide the new watches with this amazing feature.
Crowd stands and applauds.
I 100% agree 🤣Sounds like she needs to calm down a bit.
We wouldn't have either way. She was just annoyed that it was missing. You can't sue since they stated right in the presentation, "coming later".
They love doing this... but also they are the best at double tapping too.. they sometimes just do what others have/or are doing, and just do it better. And because it works so well you'd think Apple were the first to do it.Its similar, like a version 2.0 of the previous feature though. Which is why everyone is saying its strange they act like this is a completely new, never before seen feature.
True, but for whatever reason, it works great on my Series 7 stainless, but it's extremely unreliable on my Ultra. The ML stack on the Series 9 is most likely going to make it a lot more reliable. This can already be done with previous watch models under accessibility...
I don't believe it's as accurate as Double Tap will be. They use a different part of the SiP to do double tap. Don't worry, there'll be like a 100 videos on youtube showing the difference later today. This can already be done with previous watch models under accessibility...
I'm not a fan of new software features being locked behind new generation hardware that technically doesn't have to be. Even odder that besides the brighter screen, this is the new feature / value add of Series 9 and wasn't even available at release :O
Older series watches are completely capable of this as far as I know, given its already been there somewhat with accessibility
..in the same way no reason 14 pro / pro max can't get the snazzy iPhone 15 camera software improvements
sigh.
No one knows for sure. Only Apple employees. I’m leaning it’s a mix of both. In the case of the watch, it already has assistive touch so this could be similarly implemented, but guess apple needed something to differentiate the new watch that are otherwise identical.
It can be done pretty subtly.... you don't have to make a big gesture. It's not a complete replacement for navigation, you just use it in a pinch for certain situations. Get it, pinch?!?!I'm surprised at the all the attention this feature is receiving. I'm not sure I want to see everyone making hand puppet motions to interact with their watch.
I have been using it for awhile now, while I am sure it is better on the S9 it works about 95% of the time on my Ultra 1.The accessibility version is janky and doesn't work most of the time.
I’ve been checking messages with the feature since I enabled it. It’s been pretty rock solid for me. But, that’s just me.The accessibility version is janky and doesn't work most of the time.
I updated and started a timer and was able to pause and start it with a pitch effortlessly.
I also noticed that if you pinch from the home screen it brings up and goes through the Smart Stack. Pretty cool.
I did see that if there is an item where it does not work, it will bring up the pinch icon, shake, and give haptic feedback.
Now to see if this is friendlier on the battery than the assistive touch feature. When I enabled that, my battery declined faster.
Apple should of highlighted that its just a better version of accessibility feature using the new features of the S9 chip etc... it would remove such criticism
I only care if it recognizes a single middle finger gesture...I'm surprised at the all the attention this feature is receiving. I'm not sure I want to see everyone making hand puppet motions to interact with their watch.
So when you invoke it, does it rely on your screen being awake in order to recognize? I tried it but since I keep my screen in low refresh mode unless I actually tap/press a button, this was pretty useless for me.I’ve been checking messages with the feature since I enabled it. It’s been pretty rock solid for me. But, that’s just me.
