I'm honestly curious about the posters getting accidental screenshots. I just tried all sorts of ways of contorting my hand and wrist and couldn't even press one of the buttons, much less both of them.
happens when I lift a lot, but it also seems to happen randomly too.

Does anyone know if an Apple Watch 2 will be released this year? How likely? With all the updates on watchOS 3, I have a feeling Apple might go to an every other year update cycle for the watch... I really want to get one but I wish it was at least water proof so I have been holding out on the first gen.

I don't think they will release a new watch until they have a new sensor to put on it.

You can lock the watchface during a workout,
Lock your Apple Watch while you work out
You can lock your Apple Watch screen, so nothing can accidentally tap the screen, change your metrics, or end your workout. Just firmly press the display and tap Lock.

When you want to end your workout or make changes, firmly press the display again and tap Unlock.

Im sure you can lock the watch whilst doing an activity by force touching the screen then locking?

Apart from that the other 2 points are good

You can lock the screen now. If you force-touch the screen, an option for 'Lock' is available.

Hmm, thanks for the info! Although I think it's unfortunate that it's only available when an official Activity is running. Should be a system-wide option.

Until Apple opens up Face customization and creation to 3rd party devs, my interest in this Apple Watch remains right around zero.

Not holding my breath on this one :)

You may not have to hold your breath for long.

The "Gallery" looks just like a store without the prices. For example, the "ADD" button has the same shape as the "Buy" button in both iTunes and the App store.

And remember that a "gallery"is often somewhere that art can be bought.

This sounds like the watch we should have had on day one.
Consider it day one, then!

And the last year was just a beta. One that I've been happy to participate in.

Swipe up from the bottom of the watch - there is an icon to lock.

Glad to see these improvements, especially the speed one, but it still doesn't fix the fact that the Apple Watch is a solution looking for a problem.
:) I must give you credit for your incessant hatred for the Apple Watch and your constant efforts to tell everyone that Apple needs to get rid of the Apple Watch.

Thank you for your kind words.

I only want what's best for Apple.

I think control center on the watch should still definitely have some music controls. At least play, pause, and skip. Although the dock works, I find it still more cumbersome than just swiping up quick. It was a big function from the original OS as was the heart rate glance which is now an app. Aside from that, I totally love the new set up.

Does anyone with this installed know if the 'Raise to wake' toggle is available in the new Control Center? That's the setting I find myself using often when it's least appropriate for using my watch, like in the movies so I don't bother my neighbor, or during dinner when there is low light, or driving so it doesn't turn on and off whenever I turn the wheel.

I see this a lot. What watch face are you using that's so distracting? Unless I'm looking at my watch, I never notice the screen turning on.

I don't get the fascination with Mickey Mouse?! #smh
I don't use it myself, but every time my 5yo niece sees my watch, she wants to change it to the Mickey face. And she discovered you can turn the Digital Crown ("Time Travel") to make Mickey's hands race around. I expect the "Mickey reading the time aloud" is going to be hands down her favorite feature of watchOS3.

Apple this week previewed watchOS 3, the next major version of its Apple Watch software platform. The first beta has been seeded to registered developers, allowing for early adopters to take a closer look at what's new in the update.

Many tidbits in the new watchOS have already been discovered that were not given much or any stage time during Apple's WWDC 2016 keynote, including improvements to the Apple Watch companion app on iPhone, new first-party apps and watch faces, minor user interface tweaks, and more.

Face Gallery

A new Face Gallery section has been added to the companion Watch app on iPhone, allowing users to browse and switch between watch faces, customize the color scheme, and configure complications.

X-Large Watch Face

Apple has added a new X-Large watch face with one large complication positioned at the center of the screen.

Screenshots Toggle

Apple Watch screenshots can now be enabled or disabled using the companion Watch app on iPhone. The toggle switch is in the General menu.

Other Tidbits

o More watch faces support complications
o New stock apps: Breathe, Home, Find My Friends, Reminders, and Heart Rate
o Delete most first-party apps by first deleting the app on iPhone
o Tap on the Mickey/Minnie Mouse watch faces and they will read the time in their voices
o Enable auto pausing of indoor and outdoor runs
o Dismissing a notification now returns you to watch face rather than Notification Center
o The new Activity watch face is available in both analog and digital formats
o Siri has a slightly tweaked user interface
o Activity and Workout apps have been redesigned
o Friends view has been removed in favor of the new Dock feature

None of the announcements are interesting or innovative, I believe Apple has lost their edge.

Yup. And the iPhone 3GS should have been available on day one of the original iPhone's release. And with the 2012 MacBook Air over the original 2008 model with a single USB port. And on and on.

But most people know that's not how Apple introduces and evolves products.

watchOS 3 is a substantial update on several fronts.

Yes, watchOS 3 is a substantial update on several fronts. And being an Apple Watch owner from the beginning, I welcome those updates. But I think it's reasonable to say that the first two watchOS releases have been underbaked and underwhelming, especially since, unlike the iPhone, Apple wasn't creating a new paradigm. Let's face it, Apple released a product they didn't really know what to do with. I only use mine now for notifications at work. Hopefully these updates will make the Apple Watch useful in other contexts again.

The fact the speed is pretty much instant is enough alone to make it an upgrade.

So here we are on watchos3 and the watch STILL cant tell you if you left your phone behind. Seriously, is that a complex piece of code? Doesnt seem like it.

Yes, I know there are (unreliable) 3rd party apps.

I used the Lookout app but soon removed it. Whilst it's good to know when you've left your phone behind for some reason the alarm kept going off despite my iPhone being in my pocket (literally cms away from my Watch).

The feature I'm looking forward to (bar faster app times etc) is being able to have my Activity ring on my Face.

I see this a lot. What watch face are you using that's so distracting? Unless I'm looking at my watch, I never notice the screen turning on.

If you are in a dark movie theatre, I would venture to say ANY watch face turning on is too bright. But since you asked, I use the multi-color Modular face.

I consider buying an Apple Watch and wanted to wait until the release of Apple Watch 2 this fall. Honestly, the slogan is now 'Feels like a whole new watch' and I don't think they'll release a new one anytime soon. With apps launching this fast, what could a next-gen apple watch do? And don't tell me, the battery is too small!! Even with twice the battery time, there would be complainers.

I'd say if they release a new watch this year, they will primarily focus on adding more sensors such as blood oxygen, blood sugar sensors etc. I'd say they would keep the same body for the next version and treat it like an 'S' update but upgrade everything to be faster as well as adding new sensors.

Seriously mini mouse is the best that they could do...

I agree with those putting a question mark against the Minnie Mouse face. An oddly cartoony choice – but I suppose it has a certain retro charm and could appeal to some. I’d certainly like to see a greater choice of faces. The essence of a watch lies in its face after all – and there so many possibilities, from the playful to the professional. Apple could even expand existing ones – adding new animations to the Motion Face, for example, or new videos to the Timelapse face.

The other features of the Watch are nice to have, but new faces should be the priority for Apple’s designers in my view. The fitness features come a close second.

Perhaps a few more faces will emerge over the OS 3 beta cycle…

Everytime I read what's new on WatchOS, I am so happy I haven't bought one.

I am waiting for Apple Watch 2; but it seems that the main problem is how basic watchOS really is.

I doubt they'd have a blood sugar sensor. First, I doubt you can actually measure blood sugar without an actual blood sample. Second, that is getting too close to a medical device. All it would take is for that sensor to report an incorrect number and someone to fall into a diabetic coma. I can see the lawsuit from here.

Well the heart rate sensor is often wrong but it's not considered medical grade so I doubt Apple would have to get the blood sugar sensor 100% accurate 100% of the time either for them to consider adding it. The reason I even knew about this bloody sugar sensor is that Apple purchased a company a year or 2 ago that specialised in bloody sugar sensors which use light.
