This is the single reason I have not purchased an Apple watch. If I can't make a digital watch look the way I want it to, it's useless.

I wonder if part of the reason it hasn't been allowed before is due to other watch manufacturers saying to Apple you better find a way to stop our watch faces appearing on the watch. The likes of Rolex etc.
Surely the faces will be part of the Watch App Store which would stop this from happening.

I seem to always default to modular. But for getting dressed up I would love to see something similar to the Hermès watch face. I don’t want it to be identical, because the people who paid for that version of the watch should enjoy their exclusive access to it. I just want something laid out similar to that design. I think it works with the rectangular shape of the watch so nicely.

This would be really nice to have finally. I was almost tickled after playing with it when I realized I get two watch faces and then phone style lock screens. I would also love to see nightstand mode be able to be used in all four main orientations.

Nice to have, but I don't need it. Happy with my Apple Watch as I really only use it for the time, notifications, tracking workouts, and navigation.

I would personally welcome some additional good watch faces. The emphasis is on good. As long as they get reviewed for compatibility and utility then let ‘er rip. Personally, I’d like one similar to the white/antique faced chronograph but with more traditional looking and no timer. It would look great even with a square faced design.

Mentioned this several times before. WatchOS is the closest copy we have to how an OS from Apple is started. It flows right with IOS 1.0. They didn’t allow backgrounds for a while, just black.. watch is the same. They have got to open up the faces portion at some point even if it’s just allowing users to place a photo as the face and not upload it to the store to get copyright strikes. They claim it’s their most personal device... time to allow that personal device to be customized to the liking of the end user. But I'm skeptical on exactly what this coding means, I don't think its what people think.

Finally, maybe we can get some watch hands that don’t make it look like a travel alarm clock

...at least it's a Braun :p
as long as they dont stop support

Finally...

Wouldn't mind, but the choice of digital faces is so limited and even the modular one is over-picky about what goes where - the time has to go in the top right with only hours and minutes displayed for example.

I hope they screen out all the Hermes knockoff faces that get submitted. I used to have the Hermes, but sold it and got my SS 3 because the novelty wore off and I decided I wanted the S3 watch, but didn't want to spend Hermes money twice. Selling the Hermes bought me the S3, so it all worked out fine.

That said, watches with faces that fill the screen the same way the Hermes faces fill it, but maybe with more than one complication, would be welcome.

The Apple developer who wrote that note in the code has now been arrested.

Who knows if Apple will ever release this. I get why people want it but I could see it being a disaster too. Either the Watch App Store becomes garbage with anyone and everyone putting crappy watch faces out there. Or Apple completely locking it down and then developers complaining on social media about Apple rejecting their Watch face and the social media outrage machine kicking into high gear. How dare Apple tell me what watch face I can have on my Watch!

It would be nice to see digital seconds on a display. Also a complication with a digital watch with seconds on an analog face. Plus larger complications or options for complications in different ways, so as an example, two or more large complications under an analog watch face. For me, I don't need a ton of customization, but what we have had so far is way too limited. I do like the explorer face and use that now.

Even if they are strictly regulated, this is good step. Apple puts out some good watch faces, but not nearly often enough. Let third parties fill in the gaps.

I just hate that there is only one real customizable "digital" face - modular. Give me modular but let me choose a different font at the very least. Or move where the time is displayed, and move all the other widgets around rather than being fixed to a 2/1/3 setup. Also modular should be able to have a background, so we can have a usable face with a photo background.

Also the Siri face should have customizable colors and the ability to display data from third parties.

And then add swipe actions to notifications, or at least let us force touch to display options, rather than having to scroll to the bottom then tap. Really stupid for Mail app notifications because most of the time it just displays junk data you have to scroll through to hit archive.

The watch is pretty much only usable for glanceable information, but even at that Apple limits it so much.
