got a refurbished in the white box. NOT HAPPY. THEY fubared my brand NEW watch and send me a REFURBISHED. APPLE SUX!
How do you know it’s refurb aside from the box?

My white box was still brand new. Completely perfect.

Not sure if others have this problem, but my Apple Watch 4 since this update won’t allow me to change watch faces. Works fine before the update, now it won’t change at all.
Maybe the reason they pulled out the update???

They set aside the white box replacements new because it is easier to send just the face than it is to have to deal with the different band variations.

Yeah I believe they are new, as it is probably too early for refurbished. I just didn't like that mine came dead with zero battery charge.

Agreed. It will be another month at least before they are not new. Damn, they can’t even produce new units to demand right now!

Mine had 56% battery, running 5.0.0. From what I can tell appears new.

Replacement was manufactured Aug 20th-26th 2018.

My S4 bricked after attempting to update to 5.1. I sent it into AppleCare for repair and they've shipped it back to me saying that they were unable to duplicate the issue. Does this mean there is a fix? I'll be getting it in a few days with a letter explaining why they sent it back.

Oh, HELL no!! Call them and rip them a new one. You had a brand new watch, they need to give you a brand new watch.

I doubt they received a refurb this early in the series.
However even if they did, the watch they sent in to Apple
was not brand new.

I had my Genius Bar appointment today for my bricked watch. After the interrogation, which made me feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, the tech stepped away to speak with her supervisor. She then returned, did a couple more tests and finally conceded that there is an issue with my watch which will require them to send out for repair or replacement. She said she wasn’t familiar with this issue. Really? You would think a tech for Apple would be kept up to date on such issues. An internal email outlining the issue maybe? I should know more in 3-5 business days. So, that’ll be a week and half I am without my watch due to a faulty software. Lesson learned, never update on day 1.

I had this happen to me and I just demanded to return the watch. They allowed it then I bought a new one which allowed me to also go down to the 40 which fits me better.

The experiences seem very inconsistent. I chatted with a CS person and had a replacement overnighted. I put my old one in the same box and dropped it in a FedEx kiosk. I was without a watch for about a day.

It appears the watchOS 5.1 update that was released this morning is causing problems for some Apple Watch owners. Multiple MacRumors readers have had issues installing the new software and are reporting that the update has bricked their devices.

Customers who are affected are seeing their Apple Watches stuck at the Apple logo loading screen after initiating the watchOS 5.1 update.

Some customers who contacted Apple were initially told that the update could take a few hours, but multiple people have seen no progress after three or more hours. From MacRumors reader Bazooka-joe:It appears affected users have the Apple Watch Series 4, which is the newest Apple Watch that was released in September.

Some MacRumors readers have said that Apple is going to be shipping out replacement watches for those who have been affected.

Not all customers who have an Apple Watch Series 4 have had problems installing the watchOS 5.1 update, but as a cautionary measure, it's worthwhile to hold off downloading and installing the software until Apple pushes a fix. Apple has not pulled the watchOS 5.1 update as of yet.

Update: Apple has temporarily pulled the watchOS 5.1 update.

[doublepost=1541376037][/doublepost]I faced this problem this morning and the most curious was that I did not update my Apple Watch Series 4 Nike to the WatchOS 5.1 (I still on WOS 5.0.1). For me what solved was, under the Watch app on Iphone:

General>Reset>Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings

After reset, I didn't restore the backup, I've configured as a new Watch.

If I customize the watch faces, the problem returns... I was unable to identify witch face or customization trigger the error...

My S4 bricked after attempting to update to 5.1. I sent it into AppleCare for repair and they've shipped it back to me saying that they were unable to duplicate the issue. Does this mean there is a fix? I'll be getting it in a few days with a letter explaining why they sent it back.

Just got the same resolution saying they were unable to duplicate the issue. Did you receive your watch yet? Curious if it was "fixed" and maybe they just didn't want to have these repairs in their system as incidents?

I received the exact response from Apple on Friday afternoon. My watch is expected to arrive this morning.

I also had to jump thru hoops with the genius bar advisers. I was requesting that it be exchanged with a new watch given that it was only 30 days old, regardless of the 14 return policy. Given the circumstances i thought it was justified. Instead i got a fat middle finger. I ended up sending it in as they requested.

Yeah I agree it is annoying, at this point I don't care as long as it is fixed though (and it's the same watch). I just want it to work.

Would love if you could let me (us) know if it is actually fixed when it arrives. Just want to mentally prepare accordingly. Haha

It's wrapped around my wrist now and functioning as expected. I didn't restore from a backup and opted to set it up as a new watch. It is also on 5.0.1 WatchOS. Lets see how the rest of the day goes.

They just got mine in today

"Your product arrived at our repair center, but our technicians weren't able to process your repair request. We’re sending the product to you along with a letter that provides more information. If you have questions about the letter, feel free to Contact Apple Support to review your options. Be sure to use the same Repair ID. We apologize for any inconvenience."

It also say's "Could not duplicate issue" How can they not duplicate the fact that it's stuck on Apple logo? Nothing to even duplicate.

What the heck? It is clearly broken due to 5.1.
[doublepost=1541460959][/doublepost]Called support and after 30min on phone, found out they updated the OS and is working now and overnighted. Saying could not replicate and unable to process request is bad choice of words!
