I will NEVER buy another Apple watch because of this policy. When I pay an outrageous $700 for a stinking watch, I expect it to be supported for a long time to come. Apple has just become too greedy!

Might as well not buy a $700+ iPhone as well.

Got a Series 0 here. Still on watchOS 3, as I'm still on iOS 10 as well. The new features are cool, and it's a little unnerving that those expensive original models are becoming "vintage" already. All that said, I don't need my watch to do much besides tell the time and show me a couple of notifications. I see no reason (personally) to upgrade for some admittedly cool features that I will nevertheless never use.

Hahah same here too. Still on watchOS 3 for my 1st gen and iOS 10 on my 7 Plus.

Disappointed but expected. I’m surprised it even lasted to watchOS 4. Looks like I’ll finally upgrade.

I'm not going to that extreme. I just wont be buying one of the expensive version next time. The base version for me from now on. S0 will be upgraded with a basic S4.

it better still work in combination with iOS 12 on the iPhone tho. ...?
I'm pretty sure it will. You should be able to keep your watch on watchOS 4 and upgrade your iPhone to iOS 12 without any issues, it just doesn't work the other way (i.e. you won't be able to upgrade yoour watch to watchOS 5 and keep your iPhone on iOS 11).

Your Apple watch isn't going to suddenly stop working. It should continue to work on watchOS 4 for years to come. It was already pretty slow so trying to add more features to it just doesn't make sense. This is pretty common for 1st gen Apple products (which is why I typically avoid 1st gen Apple products). Later versions of the Apple Watch will probably receive software updates for longer thanks to more powerful hardware.

Would probabaly run absolutely terrible so I can understand.

I’ve been impressed with the 3 years from my S0.

We’re you annoyed about the iPhone 6/6s slow downs as well?

I don’t think you can compare the watch with the iPhone (as in longevity and support)....so I am gutted my watch won’t get any new watch faces.

It’s not as if they gave you that many in the first place, and some look they were designed by someone in primary school.

Makes sense. With the current software, my original AW is hardly usable. Slow+++
Notifications are broken most of the time.

It was going to happen. I like my Series 0 and depending on what's in the Series 4 I may or may not upgrade. I still have the original box. I can always put in on the shelf if my 1st Gen iPhone and 1st Gen iPad.

Imagine if you spent $15,000 on one of the gold plated edition versions of this. So much for being a rival to luxury watch brands. Those last generations. This is dropped after a few years

If you can afford $15,000 for a gold smart watch, you can afford $1,000 for whatever upgraded ceramic smart watch they release this fall. Furthermore, not supporting a new watchOS update on an old watch doesn't make Apple Watch any less of a rival to luxury watch brands. None of them can run watchOS 5, either. Furthermore, you can swill wear your gold Apple Watch and check the time just like you can wear any other high-end watch.

Umm...it’s a piece of computer hardware for your wrist, not a classic timepiece to be handed down for generations.

Do you have the same feeling when a new phone is released and yours is obsolete? People pay a LOT more for watches that don’t do 1/128th of what the Apple Watch can do.

And...I seriously hope you didn’t pay $700 for that S0 AW in the last 1-2 years because if so, you got played.

OMG - are you for real? Please don't tell me you brought your Series 0 thinking it would be supported forever? Who does that?

It's a device and devices have a limited lifespan. You got 3 years of support out of it - 3 years out of a v1 new to market device. Pretty good going if you want my opinion.

The S0 was painfully slow. I had to ditch my SO for a S2 and it's world's better. I'm holding out for the S5 in 2019 though.

My wife on the other hand is still rocking her S0. I think I'll try to convince her to upgrade this fall to the S4.

This is upsetting. My Series 0 works just as great now as it did when I got it almost 3 years ago.
I understand the reason but I'm not happy about it.

Well, the Watch will not stop working so he got way more than 3 years out of it. Simply it won’t have any new functionality added which, incidentally, is probably the only thing that the AW shares with a Rolex.

If You reflect back, that’s a decent timeline for software that had over three years of watch OS support. And I think that’s a testament to see at where the next generation of Apple Watch will likely see a minimum of three years to four years of support. That’s what like about Apple, is their products have continuity of support to improve the product on a steady basis.
